2451 ELIZABETHTON - Herbert H. Curde, age 88, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following an extended illness. Herbert was born in Carter County to the late Alvin and Pearl Feathers Curde. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Hall and Ruth DeSilvey; and two brothers, Ted Curde and James C. Curde.

Herbert was a United States Air Force veteran, where he served as a military policeman and he retired from the Elizabethton Electric System after 42 years of service. He was a member of Brick Christian Church, where he was an elder. Herbert loved farming, gardening and never knew a stranger, he was always willing to help others. He was an avid UT sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. But most importantly, was the love of his life, Ardith.

Those left to cherish his memory include the love of his life and his wife of 67 years, Ardith Hyder Curde, of the home; two daughters, Patti Buck and husband Keith, of Johnson City and Mikki Morrell and husband Ned, of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Shannon Banner, of Johnson City, Cody Buck, of Johnson City, Brookney Morrell and Brandi Morrell, both of Kingsport; one great grandson, Brayln Banner; one brother, Frank Curde, of Elizabethton; one sister, Grace Bellott, of Memphis, TN; and a brother-in-law, Bill Hyder. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Herbert H. Curde will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Ernie Depew, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ned Morrell, Nathan Morrell, Neal Morrell and Jennifer Trent. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday or at the residence of a daughter, Patti Buck, at other times.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Keith Buck, Ned Morrell, Cody Buck, Gary Hyder, Tommy Bellott and DeJuane Sheffield. Honorary pallbearers will be former co-workers of Elizabethton Electric System and members of Brick Christian Church.

2452 ELIZABETHTON - Herman Lee Colbaugh, 94, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home after a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Riley Fred & Mary Smith Colbaugh. He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Harmon Colbaugh, son: Roderick Colbaugh, Sister: Selma Parlier, and brothers: Harry, Freddie and Eugene Colbaugh. Herman was a member of Mtn. View Church of Christ. He was retired from Atmos Energy.
Survivors include his son: Doug (Karen) Colbaugh. His Grandchildren: Jessica (Danny) Lewis, Greeneville, Tn., Amanda (Richard) Eller, Laurel Bloomery, Tn., Justin (Brittany) Colbaugh, Elizabethton, Cory (Keely) Colbaugh, Watauga Flats. Great Grandsons: Calen, Jackson, Gideon and Brennan Lewis, Gunnar Eller and Hudson Colbaugh. Great Granddaughter: Riley Lewis. Two special nieces, Vicki Colbaugh, Elizabethton and Carrie Morris, Lexington, NC.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2022 in the Emmert Cemetery with Pastor Clarence Cannon officiating. 2453 ELIZABETHTON - Hettie L. Ritchie Lyons Beasley, age 72, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Sycamore Springs Assisted Living Community in Elizabethton. Hettie was born in Elizabethton to the late Fredrick and Bonnie Kate Miller Ritchie. In addition to her parents, Hettie was also preceded in death by her first husband, Darrel E. Lyons; her second husband, Don M. Beasley; two brothers, Fred Ritchie and Samuel Ritchie; a sister, Emogene Hilton; a half-brother, George Ritchie; and her step sons, Eddie Lyons, Greg Lyons and Howard Lyons.
Hettie retired from Carter County Bank after 39 years of service, before that she had worked at Elizabethton City Hall for 2 years. Hettie was a member of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed housekeeping and family time.
Those left to cherish Hettie’s memory include her daughter, Stephanie Jeter (Andy Duckworth) of Lexington, Kentucky; her son, Tommy D. Lyons (Tonya) of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Katie Lyons Canter, Whitney Lyons Jaynes, Dylan Lyons, Victor Mallare, Cheyenne Lunceford and Kaya Mounts; several great grandchildren; and her step daughters, Mary Beth Beasley, Cindy Lyons and Pamela McKinney; and her step sons, Phil Lyons and Tony Lyons.
A service to honor the life of Hettie L. Ritchie Lyons Beasley will be conducted at 6:30 PM on Monday, November 1, 2021 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Chris Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Monday.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Mountain Home National Cemetery (New Annex), 215 Heroes Drive. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

2454 ELIZABETHTON - Hubert Ray Brummitt, 84, Elizabethton went to his Heavenly Home, Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Hubert was born in Elizabethton to the late Floyd Brummitt, Sr. and Myrtle Lyons Brummitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd Brummitt, Jr., and James Brummitt and sisters: Josephine Brummitt, Clara Greene, Jeanette Rose, Thelma Miller and Hazel Head. Hubert was a member of Green Mountain Free Will Baptist Church where he attended most of his life. He loved to sing in church.
He was a former logger and he worked at Harris Tarkett until his retirement. He loved to work with wood and he enjoyed working in his garden and he loved family get togethers.
Survivors include his son: Tommy Ray Brummitt, Sisters: Wanda (Sue) Lyons and Marie Davis and husband Ronnie. His special nieces: Janice Clark and Shirlene Odom and his special great niece: Jamie Lee Clark, whom he adored. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday December 27, 2021 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Osborne and Rev. Dexter Brummitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Jamie Lee Clark, Wyatt Phipps, Jamie Clark, Tommy Brummitt, Sonny Miller and Wayne Davis. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Sycamore Springs Senior Living Staff for the excellent care, love and support Hubert received while there. Also special thanks to his Physical Therapist, Charles Hollowell for always going above and beyond his duty to provide his care throughout the years.

2455 ELIZABETHTON - Ikie M. Tolley. 95, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the Signature Health Care. He was born September 5, 1924 in Hampton to the late Brownlow & Dovie Stevens Tolley. He was retired from North American Rayon Corporation and was a farmer. Ikie was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. In earlier years he loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Ilene Morrell Tolley and his siblings; Jesse Tolley, Frank Tolley, Effie May, Cordie James, Jobe Tolley, Goldie Tolley, Hardie Tolley, Hartie Tolley and Lester Tolley.

Survivors include his son & daughter-in-law: Larry Joe & Joan Tolley, his grandson: Jeffery Shawn Tolley, a sister: Gracie Whitehead and numerous nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Whitehead and Mr. Richard Thomason, Minister officiating. Music will be provided by Jill Kemp. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2020 in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Sunday will be: Mickey Bennett, Bo Toft, Mark Church, Noel Church, Shirrell Bowers and Michael Whisenhunt. 2456 ELIZABETHTON - Imogene Jordan Millsaps, age 82, Elizabethton, left her earthly home on Wednesday morning, December 6, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Imogene was a native of Johnson County, a daughter of the late James Willis Jordan, Sr. and Vada Robinson Jordan. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School. Imogene married the love of her life on September 7, 1957. They moved to Elizabethton in 1967, where they raised their two sons. She was employed by Baxter, Johnson City, until her retirement. She was a member of Doe Valley United Methodist Church, Mountain City, but attended Watauga Point United Methodist Church, Elizabethton. She was a fifty year member of Butler Chapter #218, Order of Eastern Star. She was a loving wife, mom, mother-in-law, granny, sister, friend and caring neighbor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Golda Walsh, Marguritte Lowe and Helen Collins; and five brothers: James Earl Jordan, S.D. Jordan, James Willis Jordan, Jr., Russell Jordan and Ray Denver Jordan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 60 years, Raymond Millsaps of the home, Two Sons: David Millsaps, Johnson City and Douglas Millsaps and his wife, Sharon Millsaps, Jonesborough; two Grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Millsaps, Cleveland, Tn. and Matthew Hunter Millsaps, Jonesborough; very dear friends, Ed & Ginger Cobb, Elizabethton, several nieces, nephews and two sisters-in-law.

2457 ELIZABETHTON - Inge Ritchie, age 96, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Inge was born February 23, 1926 in Frankfort, Germany to the late Margareta Kuchenbecker Simon. In addition to her mother, Inge was also preceded in death by her husband, Golman Buck Ritchie; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Gary Ingram; one son, Donald Wayne Ritchie; and two sisters, Mathilde Fry and Marianne Meyers.
Inge retired as a Walmart associate and was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church. She had also worked at Denise Lingerie and for Big K Department Store. Inge loved spending time with her family, shopping, watching NASCAR races, Atlanta Braves and all of Elizabethton High School sports.
Those left to cherish Inge’s memories include her son, Ronald (Nancy) Ritchie of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Craig (Karma) Ingram, Mindy Ingram Buckles all of Elizabethton, and Jacqueline (Nathaniel) Yates of Mountain City, TN; five great grandchildren, Kaylee Ingram, Maely Ingram, Hannah Morgan, Madelyn Morgan and Skylar Yates; and her special friend and caregiver Karen Crowe and her Amedysis RN- Keith Greene. Nieces and a nephew also survive.
A graveside service to honor Inge’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Steve Burleson and Reverend Jeremy Burleson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Reverend Jeremy Burleson. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Lewis, Kelly Crain and Berry Carrier.

2458 ELIZABETHTON - Irene Andrews of Elizabethton, TN entered her heavenly home on Wednesday evening, June 8, 2022. She passed away peacefully at the Hermitage Healthcare Facility where she had resided for the last few years. She was born on March 9, 1924, to Frank and Minnie Potter of Butler, TN. She married James "Hugh" Andrews in 1949 who was the love of her life and preceded her in death in 1986. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Bonnie Ward, Verdie Stanton, Maude Ward, Don Potter, JC Potter, and Kate Stanton.

She is survived by a brother, Boyd Potter of Delaware, her children, Naomi Henderson of Orlando, Florida, Leona Woodring, (Butch) of Chuckey, TN, Lois Carty and Alan Andrews of Elizabethton, TN, her beloved grandchildren, Thomas Geisler, Bo and Kyndall Henderson, Jeff Guinn, Justin Adams, Megan Renfro, and Kristina, Sadie and Ben Andrews. She had four great grandchildren, Nicholas and Eliana Guinn and Bracken and Addison Renfro. Her grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life and they all loved spending time with her. She is also survived by her dear friend, Billie Powell of Elizabethton.

Irene was a member of East Side Baptist Church where she especially loved and enjoyed her Sunday School Class. She was a friend to everyone, and she never met a stranger. She had a way of always making everyone feel extra special. Irene loved the outdoors which was obvious by her beautiful flowers and immaculate yard which she loved to work in.

She will be laid to rest at Dyson Grove Cemetery where a memorial service will be held at a later date.

2459 ELIZABETHTON - Iris Marie Jenkins Ellis, 99, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Carter County she was born April 11, 1923 to the late Stover & Jennie Pierce Jenkins. Iris was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She served in the United States Navy during World War II. She was retired as Office Manager at Russ Swanay Real Estate. She was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens. Iris loved to work in her flower garden and yard. She attended Oak Street Baptist Church for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Ellis, her daughters Nancy Ellis, Barbara Ellis Melton, her sisters: Ora, Lorraine, Nina, Virginia and Annie and her brothers: David and K.P.

Survivors include her son-in-law: Mike Melton, Her Grandsons: Vance Melton and Daniel Melton. Her special nieces & nephews: Jacquline Hull, Pat Humphreys, Julie Hester Honeycutt, Doug Ellis, Wayne Jenkins, Danny “Pert” Jenkins, Millie Turrentine Jenkins, Susan Turrentine Smith, Dale Jenkins and her Elizabethton Senior Citizens friends and neighbors on Race Street.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2022 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Polk and Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. The Eulogy will be given by her son-in-law: Mike Melton. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. 2460 ELIZABETHTON - Iva Lee Banks Malone, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at her residence.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Banks, Sr. & Bunia Blevins Banks. She was home health nurse. Iva Lee enjoyed working in her flowers, her dogs Charlie & Molly and loved to travel. She was a member of Rittertown Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Luther Caldwell, her second husband: Gleason Malone, Sr., her son: Gleason Malone, Jr., two sisters: Jeanette Webb and Georgia Phillips and two brothers: Jay Banks and Harvey Banks.

Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law: Ronnie & Judy Caldwell. Three Grandchildren: Bridgett Caldwell Simpson, Jackie Caldwell and David Church. Five Great Grandchildren and One Great Great Grandson. Two Brothers: Nelse Banks & Wife Trudy and Walter Banks, Jr.. Four Sisters: Bonnie Bowman, Jenny Wiseman, Beatrice Holtsclaw and Maybelle Birchfield. Several nieces & nephews.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2019 in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Smitley officiating. Burial will follow the service. 2461 ELIZABETHTON - J.C. Osborne, age 78, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Hobart Osborne and Fannie Wilson Osborne. J.C. retired as a mechanic from General Motors. He is a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church. J.C. loved to spend time with his family and his dog, Angus. He enjoyed watching the car races on television and playing Bingo.

In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sue Osborne; a daughter, Jackie Cable; two brothers, Kenneth Osborne and Bill Osborne and two sisters, Dean Barnett and Delores Cooper. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty-nine years, Marie Asher Osborne, of the home; a son, Ronnie Osborne, Elizabethton; two daughters, JoAnn Cook, Elizabethton and Darlene Hammond, Cincinnati, OH; two step-children, Greg Morris, of the home and Gina Rutherford, Elizabethton; fourteen grandchildren, Tony, Ashley, Michelle, Jessica, Caleb, Crystal, Dallas, Angela, Jeremy, Michael, Amanda, Nicholas and Christopher; three step-grandchildren, Timmy, Nikki and Casey; twenty-three great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ricky Osborne, Johnson City and three sisters, Linda Campbell, Johnson City; Shirley Jo Street, Cincinnati, OH and Maude Proffitt, Johnson City. A service to honor the life of J.C. Osborne will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 27, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Roy Yelton and Rev. Eldon Cook officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Garland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Christopher, Nicholas, Caleb, Dallas, Jeremy and Bryson. 2462 ELIZABETHTON - Jack "Bud" Collins, Jr., age 77, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, March 20, 2017 from his residence, following a brief illness. Bud was born in Carter County on September 5, 1939 to the late Jack Durant Collins, Sr. and Hazel Stout Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Grace Stout.

Bud had worked as a millwright and was a member of Borderview Christian Church of Elizabethton. He enjoyed working on and racing cars. Bud also enjoyed hunting and taking care of his horse, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Bud is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Lena Bell Collins, of the home; three children, Karen Bowers and husband Jackie, Judy Thomason and husband Eddie, and Buddy Collins and wife Tina; his grandchildren, Heather and husband Bobby, Emily and husband Garett, Jason, Kortney and Chris, and Will Thomason; two great grandchildren, Zoey Townsend and Lexi Vanover; one sister, Glenda Street and husband Daniel; one brother, Donnie Collins and wife Patricia; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Jack "Bud" Collins, Jr. will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. John H. Smith and Mr. Scott Fisher, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Borderview Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to service on Wednesday; or at the residence at any time.

2463 ELIZABETHTON - Jack Anderson Chambers, age 94, Elizabethton, went to Glory on June 9, 2022 at his home on Jim Elliot Road surrounded by family. Jack was the son of Eliga Scott Chambers and Evelin Blevins Chambers and was born on a cold, snowy day, at home, on Tiger Creek. He attended Hampton Elementary School and after his father’s unexpected death, he left school after the 6th grade to help his mother raise his younger siblings. He worked at North American Rayon (back in the day when they sent a bus, driven by Gene “Hog” Wilson, to Tiger Creek to pick up employees to be transported to work at the plant). He served proudly for his country in Germany as a Corporal for the First U.S. Army Rangers. After his service in the military, he returned to North American Rayon and retired as a security guard at the age of 72. He married the love of his life, Margaret Christine Jones, on September 21, 1956, at Unicoi Methodist Church and they were married for 61 years.

Jack was a faithful member of Oak Grove Christian Church since 1956, serving in numerous leadership roles including Elder, Chairman of the Board, and Chairman of the House and Grounds Committee. It was not uncommon for him to be late for Sunday lunch because he would take communion to shut-ins, surrounding hospitals and nursing homes with his good friend, Haynes McKeehan. He enjoyed attending the Carter County Christian Men’s Fellowship. He was a member of the Carter County Cattlemen’s Association and was voted Small Farmer of the Year. He was a member of the Watauga Lodge, 3rd Degree and the Scottish Right of Free Masonry, 32nd Degree of Knoxville, TN. He was also a member of the VFW Post 2166, Elizabethton, the American Legion Post 49, and the Disabled American Veterans #17, Elizabethton. Pap, as most called him, enjoyed raising a garden, growing tobacco, raising cattle, and fishing. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in various sports and church activities. He especially enjoyed the times spent with family and friends around the kitchen table.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine in 2017 and his siblings, Mack Chambers, Bula Holtsclaw, Zeke Chambers, and Virginia Blair. 2464 ELIZABETHTON - Jack Clemons, 91, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John & Rose Richardson Clemons. He was retired from General Shale as a Jack Operator. He had served in the Tennessee National Guard. He loved to fish, hunt and work in his garden. Jack was a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church where he drove a church bus for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Alma June Lyons Clemons, a son: Jeffrey Clemons, two sisters: Venie Carr and Lena Hayes and two brothers: R.J. and Thomas Clemons. His daughter-in-law: Barbara Clemons and his son-in-law: Clarence Frye.

2465 ELIZABETHTON - Jackie Fair Boone, age 65, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. Jackie was born in Elizabethton to the late Samuel Hyder Fair, Jr. and Goldie Pearl Bare Fair. In addition to her parents, Jackie was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet Fair Morgan; an infant sister, Barbara Jean Fair; and a sister-in-law, Marianne Fair.
Jackie retired as a law enforcement officer with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. She loved animals, deeply cared for her family, grandchildren and furbabies. She made friends wherever she went and never knew a stranger. Jackie was the biggest “cut-up” you could ever meet and loved to laugh more than anything. She could not always attend church but her strong faith in God got her through many tough days. No matter what happened to her in life she never lost faith in God and Jesus Christ.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Susan (David) Kilday of Greeneville, TN; her son, Timothy Fair and fiancé, Leanna Booher of Johnson City; her grandchildren, Jamon, Joshua, Bailey, Aala, Foster, Claire and Hope; two brothers, Ronnie (Becky) Fair of Elizabethton and Randy Fair of Jonesborough. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James Homer & Addie Crowe Lipford. Jack attended Elizabethton High School. He was retired as a Supervisor at Industrial Piping, Charlotte, North Carolina after 35 years of service. Jack was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the Oasis Temple. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: James Lipford, Jr and Basil Lipford and three sisters: Beulah Snavely, Shirley Chapel and Roberta Dumpy's. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Judy Garland Lipford. His children: Michael & Phylis Lipford, Concord, North Carolina, Tammy & Gary Wallace and Todd & Pam Lipford all of Charlotte, North Carolina. 7 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren. Jackie was born on May 1, 1943 in Johnson County, TN to Rod and June Ward Swift. She was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church. Jackie was in the food service at Elizabethton School System. Jackie was a loving wife and loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Jeff McKinney and Mike McKinney, brother, Mack Swift.

Jackie is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Alvin E. McKinney; brother, Keith Swift; several nieces and nephews.

2468 ELIZABETHTON - James "Lynn" Johnson, age 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from his residence.

Lynn was born in Elizabethton to the late James Stuart and Lucy Campbell Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Johnson.

Before retirement, Lynn was a district manager of Overnite Transportation/ UPS and was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church. Lynn was a certified lay speaker with the Methodist Church and traveled a lot before his sickness – speaking and filling in. He loved Alabama football and enjoyed playing golf before his illness.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty six years, Jeanie Blackwell Johnson, of the home; two children, Cathy Mink and husband Randy, of Atlanta, GA and Stuart Johnson, of Concord, NC; one granddaughter, Mimi Wirth, of New York City; one step-grandson, Harrison Mink, of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Lucy Nell Sells, of Johnson City; one nephew, James Johnson, of Mooresville, NC; and one niece, Cindy Ringley, of Big Stone Gap, VA.

2469 ELIZABETHTON - James A. Carrier, age 79, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at his residence. He was born to the late Earnest and Donna Francisco Carrier. Jim was of the Christian faith and was an U.S. Army veteran. He began his career with newspapers at the Elizabethton Star at the young age of 12. He later became a pressman for Rockwell Graphics Systems and owned and operated PDQ Printers of Elizabethton. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School class of 1960 and was dedicated in keeping them connected. He enjoyed restoring his 1930 Ford Model A Tudor and recently became a member of the Carter County Car Club. In 1983 he co-founded the Boat Owners Association of Tennessee and organized the first lake clean-up and boat parade on Watauga Lake. He had been an avid operator of HAM Radio and Amateur television.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Norma Perry Carrier; two brothers, Walter Lynn Carrier and Dr. Ed Carrier; two sisters, Elizabeth Morris and Joann Tabor.

He was a devoted and loving father and papaw. Those left to cherish his gift of storytelling and sense of humor are his daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy Carrier-Miller and husband Matthew, of Statesville, NC and Christi Rice and husband Todd, of Knoxville, TN; his three grandsons whom he adored, James Ian Miller, Mattias Miller, and Alex Rice. He also leaves behind his special friend, Martha Hardin, of Elizabethton and his furry companion, Hissie and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park on Saturday, February 13, 2021 with the Reverend Matthew Miller presiding. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Browning, special nephew Kirk Carrier, and long time friends Gerald Rutledge, Rick Boy, and Tony Clark.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Verlin & Helen Stump Kyte. He was retired from the United States Air Force after 26 years of service. He served during the Vietnam Era. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Norma Jean Kyte, a son: Ronnie Kyte and a grandson, Gerrad Kyte.

A native of Elizabethton, he was a son of the late John D. & Eula Edens Wilcox. He was a retired Meat Cutter. He loved listening to Willie Nelson and Conway Twitty. Mr. Wilcox attended Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son: Clifford Sanders, a sister: Ann Hodge and a brother: Bud Wilcox.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years: Cathy Burke Wilcox. His Children: Jonathan (Julie) Wilcox, Elizabethton, Diana (Dan) Newberry, Mebane, North Carolina and Debbie Arnold of Florida. A Step-Daughter: Tammy Stoots. 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Paul P. & Mary Elizabeth Bibbs Peters. He was a graduate of Unaka High School. James served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was a concrete finisher. He loved hunting, woodworking and working in his yard. James was a member of Grace Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: James Edward Peters II and two brothers: Paul Peters, Jr. and Jack Peters.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Barbara Rhea Peters. One Daughter: Shonna Lea (Trevor) Harvey. Four Grandchildren: Meghan (Josh) Potter, Morgan Boling, Lola Peters and Paisley Harvey. One Brother: Larry (Brenda) Peters. Several Nieces and Nephews.

2473 ELIZABETHTON - James Gayle Oliver, age 82, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Gayle was born in Carter County to the late Shelby J. Oliver (Jett) and Laura Pierce Oliver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Pauline Hardin, Evelyn Hopkins, Earlene Buckles, Ida Mae Rominger and two infant sisters, Violet and Viola Oliver.

Gayle was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. During his senior year (1956) he was named the Watauga Conference Player of the Year in football.

He was a United States Army veteran and retired from Siemens after 19 years of service as an electrician. He was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church where he had served as a deacon for many years. Gayle still served as the Sunday School Superintendent and also did the lawn care, custodial duties and was the official "Bell Ringer" at the church. He enjoyed attending the Barn on Stoney Creek with his buddies. Gayle enjoyed farming, gardening and was a big sports fan – especially football.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Ona Faye Rominger Oliver, of the home; two daughters, Donna Ellis and husband Sam; Marcia Church and husband Noel, all of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Andrew Church and wife Jamee, of Knoxville, Alena Church, of Elizabethton, Evan Ellis, and wife Katie, of Connecticut, and Laura Ellis, of Elizabethton; and half-sister, Brenda Oliver and husband Mick, of Elizabethton. 2474 ELIZABETHTON - James Hartsell Garland, age 76, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2018 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

James was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late TN and Hazel Waters Garland of Peters Hollow in the Stoney Creek Community of Elizabethton.

Hartsell was a Vietnam Combat veteran with the 1st Infantry Division of XM454 Nuclear Weapons Unit. He was a life member of VFW Post 2166 of Elizabethton. Hartsell was also a member of the Sons of the Revolution and 1st Families of the Civil War. He retired from the Eastman Chemical Company after 31 years of service.

Hartsell was of the Christian faith. He loved life and meeting people and knew people from around the world. His greatest joy was teaching kids Appalachian music. He was a musician and maker of gourd instruments.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 46 years, Lula Buckles Garland; and two sisters, Diana Gail Lowe and Teresa Taylor.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of James Hartsell Garland will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Gerald Holly and Mr. Wayne Mottern, ministers, officiating. 2475 ELIZABETHTON - James Hopson, 93, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Avery County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late William & Callie Perkins Hopson. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was a retired employee of Tri State Container after 37 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Melissa Shell Hopson, by a daughter: Mary Millera; brother Mack Alvin Hopson and three half-brothers. James sang with the Grace Quartet for several years. He was a member of Borderview Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters: Janice Hopson (Jimmy) Brewer and JoAnn Hopson (Jody) Crowe; three grandchildren: Jonathan (Diannie) Crowe, Jordan (Craig) Emmert and Christina (Jackie) Hodge; five great-grandchildren, and his four-legged buddy, “Jake”.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Scott Fisher, Minister officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2023 in the Perkins Cemetery (Upper Shell Creek), Roan Mountain. Music will be provided by Ray Don Markland and Scott Reynolds. 2476 ELIZABETHTON - James Madison Clark, 84, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County he was a son of the late William M. and Lillie Jane Hyder Clark. He was a 1951 graduate of Happy Valley High School. Mr. Clark had worked as a maintenance electrician at the Budd Company and the National Casket Company. He was a member of the Local 2155 United Auto Workers Union, Benefits Representative of the Budd Company and President of the Union at the National Casket Company. Mr. Clark was a Member, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher of Big Spring Church of Christ. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Clark was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include: his sweet and loving wife of 59 years, G. Nettie Clark; children: Timothy James (Jamie) and wife Janice Clark, Mark Wayne Clark and friend Mary Mitchell, all of Elizabethton; Granddaughter, Jamie Lee Clark; special Brother-in-law, Sam Hamilton and wife Mable and Sister-in law, Virginia Nave; Several Nieces and Nephews.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Oliver S. & Winnie Wilson Slemp. Jim was a 1959 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was retired from the Southern Railway Company after 25 years of service in the Richmond, Virginia Division. After retirement Jim & Ann returned to Elizabethton from Burkeville, Virginia where they lived for 20 years. He was a member of the Burkeville Fire Department for 17 years upon departure was awarded an Honorary Membership. He was also a member of the Town Council of Burkeville. After returning to Elizabethton he was employed as an Assistant Superintendent with the Carter County Highway Department. Jim loved his church, Oak Street Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and hunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Hasferd Slemp and his brothers & sisters-In-law: Lena Rowe, Joan Faulkner, Sue Hill, Homer Hyder and Richard Hyder.

2478 ELIZABETHTON - James Spencer “Bo” Campbell, age 88, of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Bo was born in Elizabethton to the late Taft and Grace (Bradshaw) Campbell. In addition to his parents, Bo was also preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann (Hughes) Campbell; five sisters, Mary Evelyn Taylor, Georgia Berry, Betty Kyte, Peggy Richardson and Carolyn Richards; a brother, Bobby Campbell; and an infant brother, Bruce Campbell.

Bo was a graduate of Elizabethton High School- Class of 1953 where he was named All State Guard and outstanding athlete in both basketball and track. Bo owned and operated Church Pew Padding by Campbell and had been in the upholstering business since the 1950s. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton where he had previously served as choir leader. Bo also attended Knob Creek Church of the Brethren where he had also served as a choir leader. He was a member of the Gideons and had served as an official for TSSAA Football and basketball. Bo enjoyed fishing, his friends at Lingerfelt Group, spending time with his family and gospel music. Most of all he loved his family and cherished the time spent with them and especially his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Cathy Curtis and Jo Ellen Campbell and fiancé Craig McNeil all of Elizabethton; his son, Marc Campbell and wife Laura of Easley, SC; his grandchildren, Andy Curtis and Erica, Ryan Curtis, Hunter Pierson and Brianna, Anna Grace Campbell, Jacob Stokes and Joshua Stokes; his great granddaughter, Avery Curtis; two brothers, Paul Campbell and wife Wanda of Apex, NC and Harold Bill Campbell and wife Lorraine of Elizabethton; a sister, Darrell Ann Fair and husband Packy of Elizabethton; a special sister-in-law, Judy Campbell of Johnson City; and a brother-in-law, Ted Hughes of Johnson City. Several nieces, nephews, along with his special neighbors, Steve and Geneva Burrough and Ken and Diane Long also survive.

A service to celebrate and honor Bo’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Reverend Phil Poston officiating. Music will be under the direction of Grady and Alecia Holder. The family will receive friends from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Tuesday. 2479 ELIZABETHTON - James “Jim” Buchanan, Sr., age 77, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from the Sycamore Sholas Hospital.

Jim was born in Elizabethton to the late Delbert Wesley and Ora Myrtle Dyson Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ford Buchanan; a son, Tim Buchanan; his sisters, Lola Barrett, Lillian “Dot” Bullock, Lois Braswell and Myrkie Johnson; and one brother, Larry “Junebug” Buchanan.

Jim was the founder and owner of Jim’s Glass and Upholstery, which later changed the name to J&J Uphostery. He was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and was an avid NASCAR fan – his favorite driver being Richard Petty. Jim, along with his wife, Elayne, actually received an award from Richard Petty for “Outstanding Fan Club Members” which was a tremendous honor for Jim.

2480 ELIZABETHTON - Jane Hensley Dugger, age 88, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Elizabethton, Jane was the daughter of the late Opie and Stella Hensley. She worked in the medical field as a Registered Nurse for Carter County Memorial Hospital, Appalachian Healthcare and was the school nurse for Elizabethton City Schools. Jane was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and served as the head of decorations at the church. Jane also participated in many organizations, including Friends of the Library, Women’s Civic Club of Elizabethton, The Book Club and the Garden Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George Dugger, Jr.; daughter, Kathryn Dugger-Edwards; son-in-law, Keith Edwards and sister, Elizabeth Bowers. Jane was born in Hampton, Tennessee to the late Meredith and Mary Johnson Morton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Worley S. Hyder, Jr.; a son, Randy Hyder; and her sister, Jewell Hughes.

Jane retired as a floral designer in the Food City Floral Department and was a member of Slagle's United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her pets, Molly and Izzy, spending time with her family, bird watching and watching country music.

Jane was born in Elizabethton to the late S.B. and Viola Collins Randolph. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dayton Grant Bennett; two brothers, Jack Randolph and Vaughn Randolph; and one sister, Kathryn Hardin.

Jane retired as an aide for the Carter County School System and was a member of Siam Baptist Church. She loved to work in the garden, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jane also enjoyed her time at church and was very active in the church.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Judy Hyder and husband Joe, of Elizabethton; two sons, David Bennett and wife Kathy, of Elizabethton and Dale Bennett and wife Sharon, of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Jill Lewis and husband Brett, Robin LaPorte and husband Drew, Ashton Bennett, Kelsey Bennett and Abby Bennett; four great grandchildren, Taylor Bowers, Callie Lewis, Myles Lewis and Cooper LaPorte; and one brother, Jerome Randolph and wife Betty, of Orlando, FL. 2483 ELIZABETHTON - Janet Kay Arnold, age 75, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Janet was born in Carter County to the late Katherine Ledford Denney. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her beloved cousin, Ulys “Squeaky” Whalen; an uncle, Harry Ledford; and a nephew, James “Jim Bob” Moore.
Janet was a hardworking, self-less lady that always put the Lord and her family first in her life. She was a cafeteria worker for the Elizabethton School System and a member of Unaka Baptist Church. Janet enjoyed spending time and vacationing with her family. She was always willing to help anyone in need and prided herself as a Grammy, always inviting her children and grandchildren’s friends to her house- they were always welcome.

2484 ELIZABETHTON - Jean Crain, of Elizabethton, took her Savior's hand and stepped out into eternity on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from the Johnson City Medical Center.

Jean was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of the late Clifton and Bertha Heaton Roark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Faye Nave.

Jean was a former employee of Sperry Univac and was the former owner and operator of Erwin's Floral and Gift Shop in Roan Mountain. She was a member of Doe River Baptist Church, where she served on various committees. Jean loved flowers, being home with her family and her dogs, but especially loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jerlean was born in Carter County to the late Wesley and Beatrice Ellis Carr.

Jerlean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed at Kennemetal from 1996 to 2006 and loved anything to do with being outdoors- fishing, gardening and spending time with her family.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William "Bill" and Rosa Hurley Glover. She took great joy from the simple things in life and took great pride in her three boys. She also loved art, plants and flowers as well as cooking for her family. Jerline was a member of the Lynn Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son David Kyte, USMC.

She is survived by her sons: Randy Kyte and Keith (Penny) Kyte all of Elizabethton. One Brother: Raymond "Bud" Glover, Johnson City; One Sister: Nyoka Glover Woods, Elizabethton. One Aunt: Addie Blevins, Elizabethton, her former husband: Shirrell Kyte, Elizabethton and special brother-in-law: Jack Kyte, Elizabethton, Two grandchildren: Jennifer Cole and Jamie Baggett all of Elizabethton. 2487 ELIZABETHTON - Jerry Carl Weaver, 73, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, July 18,2021 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James G. & Ruby Braswell Weaver. Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Unaka High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He served as a Deputy in the Carter County Sheriff Department from 1970 to 1978. He served as Carter County Sessions Judge from 1978 until 1990. He was co-owner of Weavers Self Service Hardware. He was a Past Master and lifetime member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238. In earlier years he was involved in the Shriners Organization. Jerry was a member and former choir director of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his brother & sister-in-law: Ted & Janet Weaver. His companion: Kathy Rhea and her daughter Stephanie Rhea. Two Nephews: Ryan (Abbey) Weaver and Trever (Rebekah) Weaver. Three Great Nieces: Madison (Seth) Gagne, Katlyn (Travis) Boggs and Ruby Claire Weaver. His Aunt: Pauline Buckles. Several cousins.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Jerry was retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He loved to hunt, fish and read his Bible. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Cochran, a son: Mark Cochran and a sister: Selma Wilcox.

Survivors include his wife: Teresa Braswell Cochran. 2489 ELIZABETHTON - Jerry Lee Bowers, 77, of Elizabethton, loving and peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at his home following a brief illness.

A native of Elizabethton, Jerry was the son of the Haskel and Bonnie Bowers.

A "Forever Cyclone", Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School, where he still enjoyed attending basketball and football games. Once an energetic basketball official himself, he truly loved showing his school and community pride whether it be through donning an Elizabethton ball cap or simply talking about the Covered Bridge. Also known for his devout patriotism, Jerry served in the United States Air Force and embraced being a Unites States Veteran with honor. After attending buinsess college, he worked for both American Air Filter for eighteen years and then at Tennessee Distribution Center until his early retirement. While enjoying "retirement", he rarely missed breakfast with his crew at McDonalds or Betty's Burger Hut, where biscuits and gravy were always on the menu. Jerry also kept himself busy with the business he shared with his brothers, Bowers Auto Sales, where the door was always open for a good deal on a vehicle or for a quick afternoon chat and nap. He spend much of his life playing golf, going on vacations and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was rarely seen without a smile on his face and who was never short on both kind words and warm hugs.

Jerry was an active member at Hunter United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees that benefited the church and the community He also was member of the Carter County Equalization Board where he continued to make a difference in the lives of those around him.

Jerry met the love of his life, Marilyn Sibley Bowers, while serving in the United States Air Force in Warner Robing, Georgia. For 53 years, their love and devotion to one another has remained a constant source of inspiration for the family that they created together.

Jerry's legacy incudes three daughters, Mrs. Lynn (Otis) Webb of Blountville; Mrs. Debbie (Chris) Guy of Elizabethton; Mrs. Becky (Rodney) McBride of Burlison; two brothers, Mr. Tony M. (Linda) Bowers and Mr. R.J. Bowers, all of Elizabethton; three grandsons Mr. Logan Guy of Elizabethton and Mr. Garrison McBride and Mr. Jackson McBride of Burlison; two granddaughters, Ms. Ashlynn Guy of Elizabethton and Ms. Madison McBride of Burlison and one aunt, Ms. Darlene Smith of Elizabethton. Jerry leaves behind several nieces and nephews from Tennessee and Georgia, who he loved dearly along with many cousins, close and distant, as well as many close friends of the family who helped to make his life complete.

Funeral Service for Jerry will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2019 in the Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Pastor Estill Williams, Pastor Lou Crandell and Pastor Mike Berry Officiating. 2490 ELIZABETHTON - Jerry “Cecil” Eggers, age 75, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 24, 2022 from the Hillview Health and Rehab Center. Cecil was born in Boone, North Carolina to the late James Arlie Eggers and Mae Belle Eggers. In addition to his parents, Cecil is also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Louise Whitehead.
Cecil had worked at many different jobs including truck driving and also as a Funeral Director with Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton and Hathaway Percy Funeral and Cremation Services in Elizabethton. He was a joy to work for and always provided comfort to all the families he served. Cecil was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church where he served in the choir and a former member of Hunter First Baptist Church where he had served as both a deacon and a choir member. Cecil will be remembered most for his quick wit and his compassion toward others. He was an integral part of his family, his church family and his work family and friends and will be missed tremendously.

A service to celebrate and honor the life of Cecil Eggers will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 27, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton with Reverend Jamie Ferguson and Reverend Rusty Verran officiating. 2491 ELIZABETHTON - Jewell D. Carver Canter, age 74, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

Jewell was born in Elizabethton to the late John and Frances McKinney Carver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Jewell was a loving wife, mother and sister and was a member of East Fairview Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching NASCAR races and was an avid Tony Stewart fan. She also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves.

2492 ELIZABETHTON - Jimmy Lipford, age 84, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 4, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jimmy was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Jesse and Gladys Collins Lipford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Hampton Lipford; a granddaughter, Robin Yelton; a sister, Jo Smith; and a brother, Charles Lipford.

Jimmy was a loving father and grandfather and retired as a drywall finisher and painter. He was a member of Stoney Creek Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening, yard work, Braves baseball, and supporting his grandchildren's activities.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Pamela Campbell and Pat Yelton, both of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Jordan Yelton and Loran Campbell, both of Elizabethton; a sister, Jessie Montgomery and husband Carroll, of Elizabethton; a brother, Gary "Butch" Lipford and wife Nancy, of Elizabethton; a special friend, Linda Crow, of Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

2493 ELIZABETHTON - Joann "Pnut" Perkins, 83, 276 Sunrise Drive, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord Monday, September 2, at The Hospice House in Bristol, TN.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Andy J. Nidiffer and Josephine Nave Nidiffer. Joann was a graduate of Unaka High School and attended Steed College in Johnson City. Joann began working in the local banking industry at a young age, holding various positions at Carter County Bank, Citizens Bank, then serving as Executive Vice President at Watauga Valley Bank. After banking she worked in various roles in different industries then retired from Carter County Highway Department, where she assisted in the office when her husband Jack served as Superintendent.

Joann was a faithful and active member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church where she participated as a member of the choir, food committee, and visited those who were sick or unable to attend. She was a Sunday School teacher, Children's Choir Director, and member of the Adult Choir at the church where she grew up. She was also an active member of the Carter County Republican Party where she served as Secretary for multiple years. She was voted Republican of The Year in 2018.

Joann dearly loved her church family. During her illness, attending church is what she missed the most. She was always witty, hopeful, and positive even in her darkest hours. "Tomorrow will be better" she would always consistently say. Tomorrow has come. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents Joann was preceded in death by her husband Jack Perkins, brother Wheeler (Jay) Nidiffer, sister Kathryn Collins, Brother Isaac (Link) Nidiffer, and brother-in-law Earl Collins. Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters-in-law Katie Nidiffer and Carolyn Nidiffer both of Elizabethton; niece Katrina Nidiffer of Nashville; nephew Toby (Carol) Nidiffer, great nephew Andrew (Alyssa) Nidiffer, and great niece Kerri Nidiffer all of Marietta, GA; special cousin Jan Showalter, Johnson City. Many cousins, extended family, and special friends also survive.

2495 ELIZABETHTON - JoAnn Campbell, age 86, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 19, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center. JoAnn was the daughter of the late Charles Raymond Hughes and Thelma Stepp Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Craig and Jenny Lou Hopson.

JoAnn was retired as a bookkeeper for the Carter County School System and was a member of First Freewill Baptist where she played the piano for more than 50 years and served as Sunday School secretary. JoAnn was on the board of directors at Northeast Community Credit Union for 47 years and was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, Class of 1952. She then graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from ETSU. JoAnn loved to play the piano, gardening, watching sports- especially the Atlanta Braves and watching her sons and grandsons playing sports.

Those left to cherish JoAnn’s memory include her husband , James Spencer “Bo” Campbell, of the home; two daughters, Cathy Curtis and Jo Ellen Campbell, both of Elizabethton; one son, Marc Campbell and wife Laura, of Easley, SC; her grandchildren: Andy Curtis (Erica), Ryan Curtis, Hunter Pierson (Brianna), Anna Grace Campbell, Jacob Stokes and Joshua Stokes; one great granddaughter, Avery Curtis; one brother, Ted Hughes, of Johnson City; and a special friend, Carolyn Pleasant. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

2496 ELIZABETHTON - John Arthur Rominger, 95, Elizabethton, TN died at his home surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday morning October 11, 2017 after a brief bout with Cancer.

He was born May 18, 1922, in the family home in Blue Springs, Elizabethton, TN , and lived most of his life in Elizabethton, TN

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Rominger, his parents, Don Claymon & Marcilena Cole Rominger brothers Joseph Rominger, William Orville Rominger, Donnely Cole Rominger & one sister Myron Rominger.

He is survived by his loving children Cathy Lenn Campbell and husband Bob, Tony Rominger and wife June of Elizabethton, sisters Emma Pierce, Dot Wilson, Ona Faye Oliver & husband Gayle, brother Stuart Rominger & Fiancée Charmie Justis , grandchildren: Marti Poole & husband Scotty & Rhett Rominger, step grandchildren, Robert Campbell & wife Kristi, Mikkie Renfro, Daniel Burleson & wife Lisa, Cari Seaton & Shelley Seaton, great grandson Alex Odom, step great grandchildren, Tucker, Cameron & Sean Campbell and several special nieces and nephews, including Karen & husband Bill Hawley of Huntington, WV, Nancy Schultz of Barboursville, WV.

He grew up in East Tennessee and served his country with honor in the Navy during WWII. Gunner's Mate 2nd Class served proudly in the United States Navy for over 3 years during World War II. His service ended in the Pacific Theater of Operations after training in Amphibious Operations at Fort Pierce, Florida, present site of the United States Navy Seal Museum. While in service he earned the American Theater Medal, the Pacific Theater Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal ending his duty assigned to the US Naval group in China. This service to our country was part of the Original Navy Seal Program for which he is memorialized in the Navy Seal Museum in Ft. Pierce, FL.

He was locally honored September 18, 2017 by Carter County Commission for Hometown Heros.

After the war he worked at TVA building Watauga Dam and various other TVA facilities. He then started at Sperry/Univac as an electrician in Bristol, TN where he retired in 1984.

He was a 60 Year Member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge and also a member of the NRA.

As a charter member of East River Park Christian Church, he served as an elder & Chairman of the Board for many years and will always be remembered for his brilliant mind as a teacher and mentor. His biblical knowledge amazed most Bible scholars. He was always a student and loved to read and learn. He has touched hundreds of lives with his wisdom and guidance throughout the years.

He was an outstanding Christian, loving husband, father, patriot, friend and servant of others.

His love of life, service to his country, family and friends showed up in the stories and tales he never tired of telling. He loved to come up with new ways and gadgets to help with any task, an incredible mind and heart, loved to garden, worked tirelessly for others, and people who knew him called themselves blessed. His legacy will live on through his family and friends who considered him a great man. He was a man of strong faith in God, was kind and compassionate, always available with wise advice and direction, serving as a great role model for others to follow.

Dan was born in Elizabethton to the late Wylie and Helen Sneed Ornduff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Buford Ornduff.

Dan was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had been employed as a truck driver for General Shale for over 40 years and was of the Baptist faith. Dan enjoyed camping, trucks and motorcycles.

2498 ELIZABETHTON - John Daniel Ledford, 70, of Elizabethton, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at his home.

John was born in Elizabethton, the son of the late Walley Clyde and Sylvia Cole Ledford.

John worked for North American Rayon Corp. for 27 years before his retirement. He was also a housepainter and an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Ledford; nephew, Matt Ledford; and two infant sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Deborah Ledford, and her two children, Michael George Archer and wife Angela, of Jonesborough, and Rebecca Groves and her fiancé Casey Honeycutt, of Asheville, NC; two brothers, Clyde "Pete" Ledford and his wife Leona and Lonnie Gene Ledford and his wife Becky, all of Elizabethton; nephews, David, Michael, and Daniel Ledford; grandsons, William Fox, Shannon Fox, and Timothy Fox II; great grandson Bentley Morgan Fox; many other beloved family members; and his favorite pet and constant companion, Scooter.

In accordance with John's wishes, there will not be any services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church of Elizabethton, 513 Hattie Ave., Elizabethton, TN 37643.

He was a native of Carter County, a son of the late Henry and Destie Johnson Blackwell. He was also preceded in death by a Daughter, Judy Blackwell; Sisters: Glodie Blackwell Pierce, Virginia Potter & Opie Osborne; Brothers: Coeburn Blackwell, Claude Blackwell, Elmer Blackwell and C.J. Blackwell. John worked as a millwright, his hobby was working on yard equipment. John was a US Air Force veteran, and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Thelma Murray Blackwell; three children: Dale Martin & wife Kim, Kingsport, Ed Blackwell and wife Becky, Johnson City, Ted Blackwell of the home. Two Grandchildren: Summer Morton and Brandi Blackwell, one Great Grandchild Kellsie Hicks. Two Sisters: Ruby Blackwell Canaway, Elizabethton and Edith Blackwell Duckworth, Oak Ridge. Several Nieces and Nephews.

The service for Mr. Blackwell will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 in the Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Glen Layfield officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Music will be by the Johnson Family. Military Honors will be by the Carter County Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nephews. The family would like to give a special "Thank You" to Judy Little for her loving care for always being there for the family, Doctors and Staff of the Virginia Hospital. 2500 ELIZABETHTON - John W. Adams, age, 77 of Elizabethton passed away Friday, June 7, 2019 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton.

He was the son of the late Virgie Adams. In addition to his mother he was also preceded in death by his wife; Donna Jean Shoun Campbell Adams, two sisters; Betty Adams and Chrissy Garland, grandmother; Nora Harless, Affectionately known as "Granny".

Mr. Adams was a Sharp Shooter in the US Army. He was a graduate from ETSU with a Bachelor of Science/Chemistry degree which he used daily in his career at Nuclear Fuel Services. He was a very gentle and soft spoken man. He was an avid photographer, enjoyed staying active with outside activities such as hiking, rollerblading and walking. He was a man of habit who was loved and will be missed by his friends at Applebee's where he ate almost every night, also his friends at City Market or Primo's where he would eat lunch and also his friends at Subway where he would eat breakfast. John was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton. He was also a member of the Lee and Lois Herndon Bird Club and a life member of the NRA.

Those left to cherish his memory include daughters; Deanna Lee Campbell Davis (Wesley) of Cameron, NC and Dani Sue Campbell Thompson (Cory) of Murfreesboro, TN, granddaughters; Jessica Davis Rattlelade of Raleigh, NC, Nicole Leigh Davis of Ocean Park, Maine, Kaylen Hall (Drew) of Murfreesboro, TN, four great granddaughters, sister; Doris Hoyer of Baltimore, MD, niece and nephew; Paul and Paula Hoyer, nephew; Danny Garland.

It was Mr. Adams wish to be cremated. A service to honor the life of John Adams will be held at a later date by his loving family.
