2401 ELIZABETHTON - Edna Louise Fair Johnson, 82, Elizabethton, passed away Monday March 13, 2017 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James Slagle & Hildred Pauline Nidiffer Fair. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Byrl Johnson who passed away, September 12, 1995, by a sister: Emma Lou Houk and two brothers: Edward Eugene Fair and Perry Fair. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include four children: Judy M. Campbell & husband David, Ted D. Johnson & wife Gail, Mildred L. Loveless & husband Bobby and Joe D. Johnson & wife Lois. Four Grandchildren: Robert Campbell & wife Jarilyn, Misty A. Branch & husband Joshua, Amy E. Huskins & Husband Brent and Crystal G. Durbin & husband Randy. Nine Great Grandchildren. Two Sisters: Martha Cox & husband Paul and Janice Stout & husband Earl, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in the Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Tommy Collins officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active Pallbearers will be: Kenny, Kenneth and Robert Campbell, Josh Branch, Paul Cox, Jr., Randy Durbin and Brent Huskins.

2402 ELIZABETHTON - Edna Tidwell Mann, age 93, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. Edna was born in Carter County, Tennessee on November 2, 1928, a daughter of the late Vegie and Thelma Inez (Collins) Tidwell. In addition to her parents, Edna was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, William E. “Jack” Mann; and two brothers, Hyman (Pansy) Tidwell and James Ollie Tidwell.

Edna retired from Univac and was a lifelong member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. She was also a member of Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton and a member of the Eastern Star Sycamore Chapter #163. Edna enjoyed cross stitching, gardening in her flowers and making flower arrangements from her flowers, reading and spending time with her three granddogs.

Those left to cherish and remember Edna include two daughters, Sherry (Conn) Nave of Elizabethton, TN and Tracie A Mann of Johnson City, TN; her sister, Inez Duren of Atlanta, Georgia and several nieces and nephews and her church families.

An open visitation will be conducted from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2022 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton for friends to sign the register book and pay their condolences.

The committal and entombment service for Edna will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2022 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Kenneth Jordan, officiating. Active pallbearers will be David Rock, Brady Williams, Dean Grindstaff, Rodney Campbell, Steve Mullins, and Steve Kaylor. Her church family will serve as honorary pallbearers.

2403 ELIZABETHTON - Effie Mae Joines, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Walker Fair. Mrs. Joines was a charter member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and working in her garden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Norman Hubert Joines in 2000; a granddaughter, Lisa Jean Forbes; four brothers, Dayton Fair, Willie Fair, James C. Fair and John T. Fair and four sisters, Mary Ann Taylor, Kathleen Hart, Ruby Lee Burton and Ruth Herkle. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Norma Jean Forbes, Edna Sue Mathis and Nancy Lou Cooke, all of Elizabethton, TN; four grandchildren, Tammy Sue Hamm Miller, Timothy Douglas Carr, Carter E. Honeycutt and April Hardin, all of Elizabethton, TN; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Effie Mae Joines will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Brian Cable officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Friday prior to the service or at the residence of a daughter, Norma Forbes at other times. Interment will follow the service on Friday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Derrick Hamm, Timothy Carr, Dylan Carr, Carter Honeycutt, Richard Whitson and Brian Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Cooke, Danny Jones, Terry Buckles, Bill Mathis, Paul Hill and Bobby Emmert.

2404 ELIZABETHTON - Eldon C. White, age 69, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord from his home on Thursday, January 26, 2023 with his beloved family around him. Eldon was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on October 28, 1953, a son of the late Lowbrite and Anna Lea (Culler) White. In addition to his parents, Eldon was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine June (Culler) White; and a granddaughter, Mackenzie Bristol.

Eldon had worked and retired from Eastman Chemical Company where he worked as a machinist. After his retirement from Eastman, Eldon worked for and retired from Jacob’s Construction, after that he spent two years traveling with the NHRA working for Main Gate Company selling souvenirs. He was a loyal and faithful member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Senior’s Ministry, actively participated in Bible School and was a Church Trustee.

Eldon enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on cars and trucks, traveling the country and cooking. He was an avid drag racing fan, but Eldon’s greatest joy was his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to remember and cherish Eldon’s life include his loving daughter, Wendy (Chad) Bristol of Johnson City; his son, Brad White of Unicoi; his step children, Scott (Julie) Dugger of Unicoi, Bobby (Cindy) Dugger of Elizabethton and Andy (Sarah) Dugger of Bluff City; his grandchildren, Bailey, Taw, Izmerelda, Devin, Alyssa, Austin, Tiffany, Lindsey, Lucas and Malachi; his brothers, Wayne (Pat) White of Crestview, FL, Beryl (Barbara) White of Elizabethton and Mike (Alesia) White also of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and Eldon’s beloved church family also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate Eldon’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Randy Johnson and Reverend Mark Potter officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Carr Family. The family will receive friends in the church chapel from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in the Lyons Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dave Hackler, Kyle Daugherty, Dave Martin, Sr., Wayne White, Beryl White and Mike White. Honorary pallbearers will be the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, his church family at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and his former co-workers at Building 156 Shop.

2405 ELIZABETHTON - Elizabeth Lou Calloway, age 76, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 26, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Bill Whittington and Alouise Carpenter Whittington. Elizabeth was a member of Watauga Point Methodist Church for over 40 years. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. She loved her family, husband and her God more than anything. Elizabeth was a very social person who loved to travel, bicycle and spend time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Dallas “Butch” Calloway; brother, David Whittington; sister, Martha Taylor and brother, Steve Whittington.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Kristy Wagner (Trafton), of Knoxville and Jennie Barber (Tim), of Lafollette; five grandchildren, Hunter Wagner, Chloe Wagner, Jack Bean, Mille Bean and Molly Bean; two brothers, Stanley Whittington (Mosella) and Charles Whittington; sister-in-law, Jean Whittington and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Elizabeth will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2023 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Berry officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM prior to the service on Tuesday.

The graveside service and committal will follow in the Happy Valley Memorial Park, Johnson City. Pallbearers will be selected by family and friends.

2406 ELIZABETHTON - Ella Louise Whitehead Stevens, 74, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born January 16, 1947 in Hampton to the late Raymond & Ella Greene Whitehead. Louise was a 1965 graduate of Hampton High School and attended Elizabethton Business College. She was retired Payroll Clerk at Summers-Taylor Inc. She was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years: Dennis Stevens. Two Sisters: Judy Blythe, Elizabethton and Carmen Greene of South Carolina. Two God Children: Eric Lian and Iris Lian both of Texas. Two special nephews: Larry Moreland and Morgan Stevens, One special niece: Helen Stevens. Special great niece and nephew Olivia Grace Moreland and Evan Wayne Moreland. Her special cousins: Glen Creasey, Vernon Clemons and Delores Boling. He special friends: Leisha Coggins, Juanita S. Miller and Charlie & Christina Lian. Several brothers and sisters-in-law. A special great niece and nephew: Olivia Grace Moreland and Evan Wayne Moreland.

Per her request a private graveside service was held at Roselawn Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Music was provided by Joel Crisp. Active Pallbearers were: Larry Moreland, Eric Lian, Rodney Hill, Allen Tolley, Morgan Stevens and Caleb Kribes.

2407 ELIZABETHTON - Ella Pauline Buckles, age 91 of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Hillview Nursing Home. Ella was born October 13, 1930, to the late John and Eliza Jane (Williams) Weaver. In addition to her parents, Ella was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, U.G. Buckles; a daughter, Sheila D. Wilson; two brothers, Herman Weaver and James Weaver; two sisters, Nora Hurley and Hallie Hardin; two nephews, Jerry Weaver and Norman D. Weaver; and one niece, Carol Ledford.

Pauline was a hardworking, Christian woman who was deeply devoted to her family. She loved socializing and cooking homemade meals. Pauline was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church of Elizabethton and loved her church and her church family. Pauline enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter Sharon Oliver and husband Terry of Elizabethton; her granddaughters Melanie Reid and husband Everett of Elizabethton, Regina Oliver of Ohio; a grandson, Jason Wilson and wife Lacey; her great granddaughters, Sophia Wilson and Abigail Wilson; her nephew, Ted Weaver and wife Janet; a great niece, Melissa Frazier and her family; her special friends, Emma Pierce, Dorothy Wilson and Ruthie Mitchell; her special fur baby, Bodhi; several other family members, friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and church family will miss her very much.

A service to celebrate the life of Ella Pauline Buckles will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, June 3, 2022, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Friday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Steve Franklin, Charles E. 2408 ELIZABETHTON - Elma “Dean” Forbes, age 77, of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Hermitage Health Care of Elizabethton. Dean was born in Carter County, Tennessee on January 21, 1945 to the late John Robert Forbes and Annis Dove (Bea) Cable Forbes. In addition to her parents, Dean was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Forbes Frazier.

Dean was a graduate of Unaka High School and spent her career doing bookkeeping and other office work at Click Construction and Middleton Management. She was a member of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed watching UT Football, genealogy, crocheting and gardening.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Elma Dean Forbes will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 18, 2022 in the Forbes Cemetery (Peters Hollow Road) with Pastor Kenny Lethcoe officiating.

2409 ELIZABETHTON - Elmer Bowling, 86, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. He was a son of the late Robert and Bessie Scalf Bowling and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Beatrice Isaacs Bowling; a son, Elmer Carroll Bowling; five brothers, Clarence "Buddy" Bowling, Frank Bowling, Glen Bowling, James Bowling and Roy Bowling; and two sisters, Juanita Shepherd and Florence Fortner. Mr. Bowling was a member of East Side Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He was very active in the Little League and the Babe Ruth Leage and loved to fish, ski on the lake and loved to bowl. He and his wife loved to take Sunday afternoon drives and he was a faithful husband and loving husband who devoted himself to the care of his wife, Lillian after she became ill and until her death. He was retired from the Elizabethton Star where he worked in various capacities for fifty seven years, culminating in the positions of Editor and Vice-President. Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Lois Younce and her husband, Lynual, Elizabethton; three sons, Dale Bowling, Johnson City; Jackie Bowling and his wife, Tracy, Elizabethton; Freddie Bowling, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Mr. Bowling will be conducted on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Jeremy Rhoton and Rev. Dr. E. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Music will be under the direction of Harry Reagan and Lynuel Younce. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Dale Bowling, Jr., Bradley Younce, Wesley Gilbert, Logan Bowling, Jac Robbins and Jonah Robbins. 2410 ELIZABETHTON - Elmer Gordon Brookshire, Sr, 97, of Elizabethton, passed away December 11, 2016, following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Sherman Gaines & Amanda Mae Stout Brookshire, born November 26, 1919 in Doe Valley in Johnson County, TN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Williams and son-in-law, Bill Sheppard.

Mr. Brookshire was a former member of East Side Baptist Church in Elizabethton and current member of Bethany Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN. He attended Johnson County High School. Having lost his father at the age of 13, he discontinued his education during the 11th grade to help run the farm and care for his mother and sister. He served in the Army/Air Force during WWII, 1943-1945, serving in the Philippines, doing plane maintenance and rescuing air crew men shot down near Philippine Islands. While his primary calling was a farmer, he worked at Glenn L. Martin Company in MD building airplanes. After returning to Tennessee he enrolled in agricultural classes and began his lifetime career in farming. He was primarily a beef cattle and tobacco farmer but also raised dairy cows and produce. In the early 1960s he began selling insurance for Federal Crop Insurance Corporation and retired in 1988 as a supervisor. Farming was not a chore but a passion, one he enjoyed up until his death.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Frye Brookshire; children: Dottie Brookshire, Johnson City, Sharon Sheppard, Rebecca Brookshire, both of Elizabethton and John (Kathy) Brookshire, Mountain City; Grandchildren: Zachary (Laura) Sheppard, Amanda Sheppard, Great granddaughter, Penelope Sheppard all of Elizabethton; an "adopted" daughter Dr. Julia Decker and children, Kristina (Abel) Cusatti, Renee (Tim) Moore and Kimberly (Brent) McNeal and their children; Son, Gordon (Barbara) Brookshire, Jr., of Bluff City, grandchildren Jack Brookshire, Vancouver, Oregon, Tara Kane Brookshire, Bristol, TN, Sarah Knight, Bluff City, TN. Great grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob, Amanda and Jesse. Nieces, Teresa Carter and Denise Holbrook and families. Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He also leaves behind Willie, his Great Pyrenees dog. We would like to say a special thanks to the staff of ICU, ER and Inpatient Surgery at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Amedysis Home Health, especially Drew, and his caregivers Laura Sheppard, Mary Heaton & Evelyn Blevins.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2016, 5pm – 7pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, TN and Thursday, 5pm – 7pm at Bethany Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN with services to follow at 7pm. Dr. Gale Hartley and Wilkie Brookshire will officiate; music will be provided by John Brookshire and Danny Hilbert. Graveside services will be Friday, at 11 am at the Brookshire Cemetery, Campbell Road, Mountain City, TN. Military Honors will be by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Family and friends will meet at the church at 10:30 am Friday to go to the cemetery. Friends may call at the home of his daughter, Sharon Sheppard, Elizabethton, or John Brookshire, Mountain City at other times. Pallbearers will be: Zachary Sheppard, Jewel Williams, Roby Phillippi, Harold Phillippi, John Holloway, George Lowe, Terry Snyder, Kevin Seatz. 2411 ELIZABETHTON - Elwanda Vance Nave, age 90, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at her residence.

Elwanda was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late William Henry and Bessie Miller Vance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Nave, Jr.; one daughter, Brenda Sue Vandeventer; two brothers, Bobby Gene Vance and William R. Vance; and one sister, Virginia Vance.

Elwanda graduated from Cloudland High School and she retired from Walmart. She was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and playing Bingo.

Those left to cherish her memory include two step daughters, Lisa Hilbert and husband Joey and Unetta Woods and husband Steve, all of Elizabethton; one step son, Jerry Nave and wife Linda, of GA; two grandchildren, Jessica Tester and husband Christopher, of Elizabethton and Jeffery Woods, of Nashville; two step grandchildren, Christy Gilmore and husband Marcus and Jeremy Nave and Jamie; six great grandchildren, Evan Gilmore, Addison Gilmore, Hudson Gilmore, Corey Nave, Jordan Nave and Eva Tester; two brothers, Jimmy Vance and wife Mavis, of CA and Kelly Vance and wife Ann, of Elizabethton; one sister, Yvonne Birchfield and husband David, of CA; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Vance, of Roan Mountain and Vickie Vance, of Kingsport. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

2412 ELIZABETHTON - Emmert “Ray” Loveless, 68 of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 06, 2021, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Tempie Loveless. He was a faithful member and deacon of Little Mountain Baptist Church, where he enjoyed playing bass guitar. He was a retired carpenter and owner of Loveless Cabinet Tops. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchild.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Loveless and dear brother in Christ, C. W. Snodgrass, Jr. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Brenda Franklin Loveless of the home. Daughters: Tina Cole (Tim Willis) of Unicoi, Kim Norris (Thomas) of Watauga, TN. Three Grandchildren Linsey Cole, Dalton Norris and Cheyenne Norris. One Great Grandchild: Blaiklyn Cole. Two sisters and one brother: Evelyn Stroud of Statesville, NC, Gaye Loveless of Elizbethton, Tn, Chrisley Jay Loveless of Gilbert, SC. Special brothers in-law and sisters-in-law: Phyllis and Kenny Perry. Funeral Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2021 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tyler Street and Rev. Derrick Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Loveless Cemetery with Mr. Gary Roe officiating. 2413 ELIZABETHTON - Ethel Lee Honeycutt Snyder, 82, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at her residence after a life well lived. She was born July 23, 1940 to the late John Wesley & Sally Miller Honeycutt. She was a 1958 graduate of Hampton High School where she served as a cheerleader. She was retired from the Raytheon Corporation due to disability. Ethel was a 50 year plus member of Hampton Eastern Star and Butler Eastern Star. She had served in difference stations of the Eastern Star., local and state. She was a community servant, having helped friends and neighbors during their times of sickness and other times for several years. She loved her church she was a member of Sims Hill Christian Church but attended Valley Forge Christian Church. Ethel was a regular at Nancy’s Kitchen in Valley Forge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Jack Honeycutt, Zora Mae Slate, Mary Ruth Lohr and Gene Honeycutt. Ethel was an avid UT Sports fan whose blood run orange.

2414 ELIZABETHTON - Eula Mae Hodge, age 91, of Elizabethton, TN went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was born to the late James Monroe “Poga” Potter and Sarah Catherine Hopson. Mae was the Administrative Assistant for Laws-Troutman Insurance Company where she later retired. She was active with a group of ladies that would go to the Carter County Jail weekly and have devotions with the female inmates. Mae loved to sew, cook, and take care of others. She was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lestol M. “Sid” Hodge and brother, James M. “Bud” Potter. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Teresa Densford and husband Orris, of Elizabethton; two sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Oaks and Leota Holsclaw, both of Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Anna Marie Densford, of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews also survive.

2415 ELIZABETHTON - Eva Holder Estep, 94, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 10, 2020 at her residence.

A native of carter County, she was a daughter of the late N.R. & Dora Holder. She previously was employed at Magnavox and retired from Texas Instruments. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church but attended Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. Eva was an avid reader, loved working in her flowers and garden and working puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Shade Estep who passed away April 8, 1992,by four brothers: Deward Holder, Daniel Holder, Conley Holder and Hoover Holder and three sisters: Blanche Holder, Oma Richardson and Sylvia Bradley.

Survivors include two daughters: Diana Estep of the home and Donna Estep Livingston, Elizabethton. Two Sisters: Lois Edmison, Kernersville, NC and Shirley Richardson & brother-in-law: Ronda Richardson, Winston-Salem, NC and one brother: Lloyd Holder, Rolling Hills Estates, CA. Several nieces and nephews also survive, all of whom she loved dearly.

2416 ELIZABETHTON - Evelyn Harris Hinkle, 80 of Elizabethton died on Monday, December 12, 2022 at her residence. She was a native of Johnson City, daughter of the late Hubert and Regina Carver Harris.

Evelyn was a supervising RN at the Johnson City Medical Center for many years.

She attended the East Side Free Will Baptist Church.

Evelyn enjoyed her flower garden and taking care of her cats Precious and Charlie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Larry Hinkle; a son, Brian Kirk Hinkle; a grandson, Ryan Hinkle; three brothers and a sister.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Larry Hinkle and two special friends, Phil Perkins and Brent Heath.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 1:00 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel at Happy Valley Memorial Park under the direction of Pastor Michael Lyons, special music provided by Karen Lyons.

2417 ELIZABETHTON - Evelyn Marie Ensor Oxendine, 76, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord, Friday, March 15, 2019 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Cecil & Cora Ellen Gentry Ensor. Marie was a 1961 graduate of Unaka High School. She was a retired employee of Kingsport Press after 18 years of service. She was very active in her church, Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday School Teacher, Member of the Church Choir, served as church clerk and active in the WMU for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Stanley, Raymond, Robert & C. Lee Ensor and two nephews: Randy & Ricky Ensor.

Survivors include her husband: Tom Oxendine, Two Sisters: Lynda Vaughn & husband Tom and Ruby Corder all of Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Howard Ensor & wife Jewell and Ernest "Pete" Ensor & wife Kathy. A special Nephew: Ronnie Ensor, a host of friends, neighbors, nieces & nephews. 2418 ELIZABETHTON - Florence Daugherty, age 97, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

Florence was born in Carter County to the late George Washington Taylor and Nannie Lyons Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Daugherty; a daughter, Sheila Daugherty; a son, Roger Daugherty; and five brothers; one sister; seven half-brothers; and two half-sisters.

Florence was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church, where she had attended since birth and had previously served as clerk and treasurer for over 50 years. Florence enjoyed vegetable gardening, cooking for her family and visiting the sick in her community.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Jerry Daugherty and wife Vicky, of Elizabethton and Kyle Daugherty, also of Elizabethton; one grandson, Jerry Daugherty and wife Rachel, of Knoxville; one granddaughter, Jennifer Daugherty, of Elizabethton; three great granddaughters, Emilia and Ella Daugherty, of Knoxville and Harper Smith, of Elizabethton; and one brother, Walter Taylor, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Florence Daugherty will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in the Chapel of Tetrick funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Gene Fleenor, officiating. Music will be provided by Joyce Grindstaff. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday.

2419 ELIZABETHTON - Floyd D. (Todd) Lowe, 82, Elizabethton went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at his residence.

A native of Carter County he was a son of the late John & Mary Peters Lowe. Floyd was a 1954 graduate of Unaka High School. He served in the United States Air Force for three and one-half years. He retired from Raytheon Corporation in 1993 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church sense 1964, served on the Deacon Board and was Choir Director. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Ralph, Bill and Harold Lowe and one sister: Beatrice Lockner.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Mary Ann Mercer Lowe. A daughter and son-in-law: Vivian Ruth & Daniel Wood, Piney Flats. One sister: Florence Belt, Welcome, North Carolina. One brother: Lloyd Lowe and wife Sue of Elizabethton. His special Honorary grandchildren: Cooper and Taylor Shanks and Sydney Markland. Several nieces & nephews. 2420 ELIZABETHTON - Fornie Dungan "FD" Elliott, 92, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2016, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home after a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Roy & Rosa Buckles Elliott of Stoney Creek. FD enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at Nashville, Tennessee on the 8th day of January 1943. As a proud Marine of World War II, he was at Iwo Jima when the Marines raised the U.S. Flag in 1945. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts while serving his country. He was also the recipient of the Combat Action Ribbon for service in World War II. The Presidential Unit Citation with one bronze star, the 4th Marine Division for service on Saipan and Tinian during the period June 15 to August 1, 1944, the Assault Troops, 5th Amphibious Corps for service on Iwo Jima during the period February 19 to 28, 1944, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze campaign stars, the World War II, Victory Medal and the Rifle Expert Badge. Mr. Elliott was a retired sheet metal worker from North American Rayon Corporation and then worked part-time at Freeman Taylor Quick Cleaners in Elizabethton.

After he and his wife retired, they loved camping and spending time with their friends. They worked as volunteers at Roan Mountain State Park for 17 years. He was an active member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board, served as a Superintendent of the Sunday school, also a choir member for several years and a Sunday School Teacher of the Junior Boys Sunday School Class for several years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice McQueen Elliott; by a son, Jeffery Elliott; two sisters, Sally Grindstaff and Corine Roberts; and a brother, Toy Elliott.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Jennifer Elliott, Elizabethton; a grandson and his wife, Johnny & Lori Elliott, Elizabethton; three great– grandchildren, Sydney and Maci Elliott and Logan Turbyfill; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews. Also his three family pets that he loved also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Jennings and Rev. Jack Lloyd.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Music will be provided by the First Free Will Baptist Church Choir, JoAnn Campbell, Pianist and Carol Bowers, Organist.

2421 ELIZABETHTON - Frances Frye Brookshire, 89, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, following a lengthy illness.

She was born July 14, 1928 in Florence, Alabama to the late John Dewey Frye, Sr & Ruby Ethel Smith Frye. She had lived in Elizabethton since the early 40's. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Elmer Gordon Brookshire, Sr;, sister, Margaret White, brother, John Dewey Frye, Jr., and son-in-law: Bill Sheppard. Mrs. Brookshire was a member of East Side Baptist Church. She graduated from Fontana School, Fontana, NC, one of 4 graduates and was proud to be called a "dam" kid, attending many school reunions there. She was also a graduate of Steed Business College. She worked at Carter County Motor Company, US Department of Agriculture as a crop insurance representative and was owner of Branum Insurance until her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Dottie Brookshire, Johnson City, Sharon Sheppard, Rebecca Brookshire, both of Elizabethton and John (Kathy) Brookshire, Mountain City; Grandchildren: Zachary (Laura) Sheppard, Amanda Sheppard: Great Granddaughter: Penelope Sheppard all of Elizabethton. An "adopted" daughter: Dr. Julia Decker and children, Kristina (Abel) Cusatti, Renee (Tim) Moore and Kimberly (Brent) McNeal and their children; step-son, Gordon (Barbara) Brookshire, Jr., of Bluff City and their families. Nieces, Cheryl White Fisher, Brenda White Abrams-Hines, Lydia Wilson, nephew, Richard White. She is also survived by her special dog; Roco. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bruce & Betty Lou Thomason Ellis. Frank was a 1972 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a retired Residential Estimater with Builders First Source for 40 years. He loved to ride his Motorcycle, play the Guitar, go hunting and fishing. He also loved to build things. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Staff Sgt. Billy Joe Ellis and a sister: Brenda Long. He was of the Baptist Faith.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Wiley T. & Anna Pearl Williams Richardson. Frank was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended Steed College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was an employee of North American Rayon Corporation for 35 + years until its closing and he retired from Mapes Piano String. He was a member of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church. Frank was a member of the Carter County Honor Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years Charlotte Lou Fair Richardson who passed away June 13, 2012, by two brothers: Stephen Paul Richardson and Carl Richardson and two sisters: Sylvia Richardson and Florence Stevens.

Survivors include two daughters: Angela Manning & husband Foye, Morristown, TN and Diana Wright, Elizabethton. 2424 ELIZABETHTON - Gary Wayne Perry, 74, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 16, 2023. A lifelong resident of Elizabethton, he always had a smile on his face and was willing to help anyone. He had a heart of gold and a knack for talking on the phone. He loved the Lord and was a friend to all that knew him. Gary was the son of the late Earl & Marie Crow Perry. He was a graduate of Hampton High School and was a devoted member of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church. He retired from Matheson Tool & Die. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by uncles: Howard, Jim, Carl, and Alfred Crow, Carl Keplinger and Clarence Perry, his aunts: Annie Crow, Phyllis Crow, Jane Calhoun, and Florence Robinette.

He leaves behind Aunts: Edith Keplinger, Shirley Matheson, Margaret Crow, a special Uncle Harry “Bea”, and Patsy Crow and Don Robinette, as well as a host of cousins. He loved his church family and had many special friends including his caregiver and best friend, Sue Tolley and his little buddy Stetson Lane Cornette; also Sammie Sue, his furry baby cat.

She was a retired employee of Raytheon Corporation, Bristol after thirty-four years of service. She loved flowers, bird watching and shopping. She was a member of Borderview Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband Maurice “Moe” Graves. Two Daughters: Jody Shipley and wife Laura and Tina Hardin. One Granddaughter: Zoe Shipley. Two Stepsons: Buzz and Tracy Graves and her cat Tila. One Aunt: Joann Cable, Two Uncles: Terry Smith and Tom Oxendine. Also, several cousins.

2426 ELIZABETHTON - Gene Sams, age 83, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of Elmer B. Sams, Sr. and Pearl Humphrey Sams. He was a 1956 graduate of Elizabethton High School and 1960 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Bachelors in Business Administration. Gene served in the U.S. Army and owned and operated a State Farm Insurance agency for 49 years. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and his favorite activity singing in the choir for 60 years.

Gene was a former President of Jaycees and United Way. He also served on the boards of Elizabethton Electric and Elizabethton Housing Authority, Boys and Girls Club of Carter County and Friends of Sycamore Shoals.

In retirement, Gene worked as a volunteer at Hale Community Ministries. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends and family and attending any sporting event possible with his best friend, Larry Treadway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Sams and son, Stacy Sams.

2427 ELIZABETHTON - George Frank Greer, age 86, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Roan Mountain, TN to the late Roby and Mary Greer. George served in the U.S. Army and later retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He was a country man who loved his Lord, family and church. George was a loving husband, father, papaw and friend who never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, Braves baseball, Cyclones football, watching his granddaughter Lauren play softball and overseeing the Annual 4th of July BBQ at his church. George was a member of East Side FWB Church where he served as trustee and ran the sound room for many years with the son he never had, Rick Peters and his adopted grandson, Jason Hambrick. To know George was to love him. So many considered him as their adopted papaw.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Paul Greer and Norman Greer and sister, Ruth James. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Valerie Nadine Greer, of the home; three daughters, Felicia Marley (Glenn), Marsha Jaynes, Katina Brickey (Anthony); seven grandchildren, Jamie Marley, Kayla Luster (William), Julian Jaynes (Carla), Haley Jaynes, Lauren Brickey, Nathan Jaynes and Madison Jaynes; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jaynes and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of George Frank Greer will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2022 at East Side FWB Church with Reverend Justin Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Friday.

The graveside service and committal will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. 2428 ELIZABETHTON - George Harvey McQueen, 78, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Savior on Sunday, February 18, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

George was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton in the Blackbottom Community.

He was a devoted husband to his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Louise Culler McQueen and loved his entire family dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Deborah Smith McQueen, brothers: Harry, Shirley, J.D., Ivan, Charles, Kenny and F.M., and sisters: Sue, Margie and Beatrice.

He is survived by his wife, Louise, Sons: Jim and wife Becky, Steve and his wife Lesa and grandsons: Cody and wife Chasedy and Steven and fiancé Lacey Elliott and great granddaughter: Caylin as well as several nieces and nephews.

George was a graduate of Elizabethton High School; He retired from Allied Metals, Co. after 45 years of service. He served seven years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He loved helping his neighbors, family and friends, and also enjoyed playing golf with his golf buddies. He loved meeting with his friends each morning to drink coffee and discuss the day's events and to "solve the world's problems". He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and a child of God.

2429 ELIZABETHTON - George Thomas Skeans, 77, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gordon & Ellen Stout Skeans. He was a retired Captain with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. In earlier years, he was employed as a mechanical Engineer. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. George was a member of Union Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Marley Skeans, two brothers: Cyril and Bill Skeans and one sister; Mary J. Morgan. George was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge # 750 and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Dorothy Vest Skeans; one daughter & son-in-law: Debbie & Mike McKinney, Jonesborough; two sons & daughters-in-law: Tom & Jenny Skeans and Tim & Tammy Skeans all of Elizabethton; four granddaughters: Brittany Skeans of the home, Cora Kelley, Jonesborough, Sydney Potter and Lindsey Hunter all of Elizabethton; two grandsons: Rick Skeans and Bryson Lynch and five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Elsie Sams, Watauga; and Margaret Fields, Hampton; a brother-in-law: Harry Morgan, Elizabethton; one brother: Ed Skeans, Watauga; two sisters-in-law: Judy Skeans and Lavonna Skeans, both of Elizabethton; one uncle: Bobby Stout and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was born May 7, 1922 in Carter County to the late Auda & Viola Peters Hardin. Georgia spent her early years in West Virginia. She was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles C. Webb, her son Rondal Wayne Webb and her second husband Luther Ellis. She was also preceded in death by a sister: Alma “Boe” Williams and her sisters-in-law: Danette Hardin and Lucille Hardin, also four brothers: Charles Hardin, Donald Hardin, Dana Ray Hardin and Olan “Pie” Hardin and two brothers-in-law: Charles Mack Smith and Maynard Williams.

2431 ELIZABETHTON - Georgia Lee Clawson Rosenbaum, 77, Elizabethton passed away December 25, 2019 in the Hillview Health Center.

Born December 25, 1942 in Butler, Tennessee to the late Gurney & Goldie Lunceford Clawson. She worked at TPI. She also worked at KFC for several years. Georgia was a member and Past President of the Carter County Crewettes. She was a member of Valley Forge House of Prayer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Tony Clawson, Roy Potter and Ross Lambert her step-dads. She loved working in her home and her family.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years Ernest "Rosie" Rosenbaum. Her Children: Dexter (Lora) Adkins, Eddie Adkins, Rochelle (Mickey) Darnell and Johnny (Shay) Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Delores Gail Williams and his sister, Mary Jo Fair.

2433 ELIZABETHTON - Geraldine "Gerrie" Hardin, age 86, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her loving family, whom she was ready to join, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, from the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

Gerrie was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of the late Ollie G. Hardin and Tina Matheson Hardin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Hardin and a brother, Charles Hardin.

Gerrie retired from the Defense Intelligence Agency at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia on December 1, 1989, after 30 years of service. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton, where she was a member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class. She was an Elizabethton High School, Class of 1947 graduate and loved to play scrabble with her friend, Betty Adcock.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Frances Elick and husband George, of Grants Pass, OR and Bea Hudswell, of Greeneville, SC; two brothers, Bill "Butch" Hardin and wife Aree, Bowie, MD and Tony Hardin and wife Judy, of San Jose, CA; one special great nephew, Nicholas Hardin; her caregivers, Dick and Glenda Oatman, of Elizabethton; her close friends, Pam Campbell, Betty Adcock, Cussie Barnett, Patty White, and Ruth White, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service to honor the life of Ms. Geraldine "Gerrie" Hardin will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Nathan Jennings, officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 AM on Saturday.

Born September 15, 1935 in Elizabethton to the late Bill & Ailene Nave Hopson. She was a graduate of Unaka High School. Mrs. Hodge was a Certified Nursing Assistant. She retired from Hermitage Nursing Home in 1994. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Hubert Glenn Hodge and a brother: Arlin Hopson.

Survivors include her children: Steven Hodge (Patty), Elizabethton, Janet Taylor (John) _, Hood River, Oregon and Brian Hodge, Bluff City. 2435 ELIZABETHTON - Gertrude Hughes “Pete” Bishop, age 104, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Sequatchie County she was born to the late Reuben Hughes and Lula Standifer Hughes. She was a graduate of Carson Newman University at the age of 19 where she received two majors in home economics and English along with two minors in German and Science. Gertrude later moved to Elizabethton in 1941 to work for the Carter County School System. Gertrude was a member of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, Carter County Retired Teachers Club, AARP Member of Elizabethton Woman’s Club and General Federation of Women's Club. She was a big of the Elizabethton Twins and enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bishop; two sons, David Bishop and Joseph Bishop; three brothers and five sisters.

She was born December 14, 1951 in Mountain City to the late Paul Sluder and Blanche Osborne Sluder Stansberry. She had lived most of her life in Carter County. Gladys was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a retired employee of Snap-On-Tool. She was a lifetime member of the Carter County Crewettes. Gladys was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister: Margaret Welch, Two brothers and One Sister-in-Law: A.R. Sluder and Charles & Cookie Sluder.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years: Carl Lynn Burrough. Three Sisters: Louise (Jack) Cable, Dare (Claude) Jones and Alice (Dallas) Barker. 2437 ELIZABETHTON - Glenda "Sue" Hampton, age 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2019 from Signature Health and Rehab Center of Elizabethton, following an extended illness.

Sue was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Dan and Lydia Mae Glover Matherly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Glenn Hampton; four sisters, Ethel Matherly, Louise Hay, Anna B. Whaley and Nell Matherly; and one brother, Howard "Red" Matherly.

Sue was always on the go! Either working around the church or cooking for the church. She had worked at Pizza Inn for over 30 years and was very proud of her service. She was a loyal and devoted member of Sims Hill Christian Church and enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, cooking, traveling on bus tours and most especially Sue loved being around her family and her church family.

Those left to cherish her wonderful memories include her daughter, Melissa Carr and husband Tim and her grandson, Dylan Carr, all of Elizabethton; a sister, Jean Matherly, of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Lois Matherly, of Elizabethton; and her nieces and nephews, Jill Baggett and Loria Gabert, both of Alabama, Sandy Cole and Dan Matherly, of Elizabethton. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive.

2438 ELIZABETHTON - Glenn C. Church, age 83, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Glenn served during the Vietnam Era for the U.S. Army and later retired after 30 years from the U.S. Post Office. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Asa Clinard Church and Sarah “Dolly” Morton Church. Glenn was a graduate of Unaka High school and then went on to finish his education at ETSU. He was very soft spoken and never raised his voice or spoke harshly of anyone. Glenn was a Minister of Music for over 60 years and served many local area churches. He was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church. Glenn enjoyed working in the yard, planting his flowers and being outside, but he especially loved to spend time with his grandkids. He always looked forward to music school every year with the Watauga Association of Baptists. Glenn had a significant influence on many people who came to know Jesus. He was a man who loved his God, family and flag.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Howard and sister-in-law, Pat Church. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and “rare gem” of 53 years, Joyce Oliver Church, of the home; two sons, David Church and wife Vicky, of Knoxville and Stephen Church and wife Lori, of Johnson City; a brother, Gene Church, of Elizabethton and brother-in-law, Howard Rev. Robert, of Kannapois, NC; three grandchildren, Kathleen “Katie” Church and Caleb Church, of Knoxville and Erica Church, of Johnson City and other nieces and nephews also survive.

2439 ELIZABETHTON - Godfrey D. "Jim" Cable, 88, Elizabethton formerly of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late James P. and Nancy Ann Stout Cable. He had lived in Carter County since 1951. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation having worked there for 45 years. Jim was also a farmer and a beekeeper. He was a member of the Carter County Cattlemen's Association, Rittertown Baptist Church, and Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679. He was also a Shriner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Cora Alice Cable, Bertie Holloway, and Fannie Dugger and three brothers: Spencer, Howard, and Bobby Joe Cable.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gereel Aldridge Cable; two daughters, Carol Roberts of Elizabethton, and Teresa Brinkley and husband Bill of Jonesborough; three grandchildren, Erin Brinkley, Benjamin Brinkley and Whitney Roberts; sister-in-law Amy Smith; brother-in-law Garrett Aldridge and his wife Regina; and several nieces and nephews.

2440 ELIZABETHTON - Grady Ben Fair, 89, Elizabethton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ben & Ida Nell Estep Fair. Grady proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was retired from the Dairy Business having owned and operated Farm Best Dairy for several years. He was an active member of East River Park Christian Church where he was a greeter and he was the candy man for the children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Lowe Fair, two brothers: Dana & Wayne Fair and one sister: Carolyn Runnion.

He is survived by his second wife: Lavelle "Bo" Hopson Fair; Son Steve & Ruth Ann Fair (Ben, Tim & Sarah), Daughter: Susan & Kenton Farr (Kelly, Nick), Son: David (Hunter & Chase). Two Step-sons: Danny Gourley, Rutledge, Tenn. and Richard Gourley, of Florida. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

2441 ELIZABETHTON - Hannah Maye Dugger Whitehead, 101, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021 in the Hermitage Health Center. She was born December 10, 1919 in Carter County, to the late Stephen Jett and Nell Ward Dugger. She had lived her entire life in Gap Creek area. Mrs. Whitehead was the oldest member of Zion Baptist Church where she had attended her entire life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Charles Whitehead, two sons: Jimmy and Ralph Whitehead, one daughter: Phyllis Merritt, two grandsons: Marcus Merritt and Chris Whitehead, two brothers: James and Clarence Dugger. Four sisters: Laura Taylor, Anna Pate, Virginia Wilson, and Joyce Dugger and her daughter-in-law: Shirley Whitehead. She loved to work in here flowers and her garden and loved to sew.

She is survived by two sons: Terry and Steve Whitehead, One great granddaughter: Falon Whitehead and one great grandson: Chris Whitehead. One sister: Artha Loveless, several nieces and nephews. Also, her special friends: Joan Whisenhunt, Bobbie Taylor, Juanita Wodard, Shirley Cole, Pansey Johnson, Cheryl Harrison, Mittie Huffine and Gay Loveless.

2442 ELIZABETHTON - Harold Dean Boone, age 74, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went to be with his Lord on June 22, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.


'Dean', as he liked to be called, was born at home in Roan Mountain to the late Oran and Martha Greer Boone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Boone, wife, Ramona Smith Boone, and granddaughter, Sierra Rollins. Dean was a 1963 graduate of Cloudland High School and a member of his beloved Hunter Methodist Church. He retired after 43 years as a printer (Kingsport Press, Inove Graphics, and Arcata Graphics). He had an infectious smile, loved a cold Sprite from Sonics, known for looking spiffy and being a momma's boy, and loved country cooking. In his spare time, he was passionate about tinkering with old cars, camping, woodworking, hunting, and wine making.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted companion Judy Boone Orr, and five children: a daughter, Donna Pearce Harrell (Jim); a daughter, Theresia Boone Cannon (Tim); a son, Kyle Daniel Boone (Norma Livingston); a daughter, Robyn Boone Moore (Calvin Hyder); and daughter, Rebecca Boone Rollins (Michael); 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Boone (Mary); a brother, Jim Boone (Johnnie); a sister, Ann Teter; a sister, Grace Canter (Red); a sister, Charlotte Julian (Bud); and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service to celebrate and honor the life of Harold Dean Boone will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Pastor LeAnn Crandall and Associate Pastor Mike Berry will be officiating. Music will be provided by Hunter and Sally Berry. 2443 ELIZABETHTON - Harold “Buddy” Little of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in the Johnson City Medical Center following an illness of three weeks. Buddy was born in Carter County on March 25th, 1927. Buddy was the son of the late H. Clay and Florence Miller Little.

Buddy was a faithful, active and lifetime member of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church. He was a U S Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Front. He was a recipient of Army of Occupation and the World War II Victory Medal. Buddy attended Elizabethton High School and was drafted prior to graduation his senior year. In 2001 he received his Elizabethton High School diploma along with twelve other veterans who were drafted during their high school senior year.

Buddy was a member of the Teamsters Union and having driven a truck for Beaunit Fibers and retired from Mason and Dixon Trucking. He started working at Tetrick Funeral Home in 1982 where retired in 1992, but continued to work as an ambassador for many years. Buddy was a loyal Cyclone fan and a member of the Republican Party.

Buddy was one of the kindest people you ever met. He was always kind to the less fortunate and loved animals. His favorite dog and best friend was Luke, a Labrador.

Buddy was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Flannary and her husband Jimmy, and Beryle Laws and her husband John, one brother Earl Little and his wife Barbara, and a brother-in-law Randall Baldwin.

Buddy is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Trilla Smith Little of the home, one daughter, Jan Malone and her husband Mike, one son Chris Little, one grand-daughter Breanna Little whom he adored, one sister Evelyn Baldwin. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Buddy Little will be conducted at 2:30 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, June 6, 2021 with Rev. Willie Campbell and Brother Nathan Dugger officiating. Music will be under the direction of Judy Little and Linda Baughman. 2444 ELIZABETHTON - Harry F. Absher, 75, of Elizabethton passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Hermitage Health Care in Elizabethton, after a brief illness.

He was born December 27, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar R. & Ellen Crowe Absher and grandparents, Franklin D. & Virginia Davis Absher and Farris D. & Lottie P. Morton Crowe.

He was of the Baptist faith. He was a former employee of NARC and a former Deputy & Investigator for the Carter County Sheriff's Department.

Survivors include a daughter, Mitzie Lea Absher of Elizabethton; sister, Barbara Rumley (Jerry) of Watauga; brothers, Larry Absher (Arlene), Tom Absher (Lynn) both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. His special friends, Kem Birchfield & Jeff Guinn. All his friends at Courtyard Apartments. His very special dog, "Little Girl", his faithful companion for 10 years. Special thanks to Connie Tester for the care of his dog and bringing her to see him so faithfully at the Nursing Home, which always put a big smile on his face. Thanks to the Amedisys Hospice and Hermitage Health Care of the care given to Harry and the love shown to his family. Thank to everyone for your calls, visits and most of all, your prayers.

2445 ELIZABETHTON - Harry T. Stout, 94, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday February 20, 2022 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born September 18, 1927 in Watauga to the late T.O. & Stavania Hatcher Stout. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. Harry served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He had operated Harry T. Stout Locksmith since 1967. Harry was a member of VFW Post 2166, American Legion, United States---Constabulary, American Motorcyclist Association, Disabled American Veterans. He was a founder and life member of East Tennessee Locksmith Association; He had served on the Carter County Election Commission for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Jordan Stout who passed away August 20, 2009, by two sisters: Muriel Manning and Juanita Glass and a brother: Sam Stout. Harry was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for 80 years.
Survivors include his Children: Pat Stout, Cheryl (Larry) Shell, Thomas (Debbie) Stout and Sam (Melissa Shepard) Stout. His Grandchildren: April (Wes) Pearson, Shaun (Selina) Stout, Whitney (Craig) Odom, Faith Stout and Kyra Click, his great grandchildren: Dustin (Chelsea) Garland, Tori Garland, Maylie Stout, Gage Stout, Mallory Odom, Stephanie Pearson, Landon Pearson and Layla Stout. Several nieces & nephews, also a special friend, Janie Henson.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Fred T. & Ethel M. Lowe Chesser. Mrs. Johnson retired from the Kitchen staff at Milligan College. She was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. She loved her family, cooking and canning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands: Clifton Collins and Harold Johnson, a daughter: Nancy Collins, Three sons: Rusty, Randy and Freddie Collins an infant son, an infant daughter, three brothers: Clyde, Allen & Harrison Chesser and a sister: Linda Faye Chesser.

Survivors include Three Daughters: Joan Garland, Joyce Miller & husband Sonny all of Elizabethton and Judy Bowling & husband Dean, Hampton. A Step-Son: Keith Johnson, Roan Mountain. Six Grandchildren: Jason Collins, Cynthia Bowling, Daniel Bowling, Joey Miller, Brandon Garland and Lucas Garland. 2447 ELIZABETHTON - Hazel M. Johnson, 102, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Signature HealthCARE Wellness and Rehab Center (formerly Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center). She was born on October 1, 1915 in Old Butler to the late Isaac Wade and Venie Stout McQueen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, , Mae McQueen, Maude McQueen Grant, Mildred Slemp, Ruby Sutphin and five brothers, Ivory S. McQueen Kyman McQueen, Paul McQueen, Bradford McQueen and James McQueen.

Mrs. Johnson was a devoted daughter to her parents and a loving mother, who never stopped telling her son how to take care of his health. She always made a way to help family members and friends in need.

Hazel was the ninth born of ten to Isaac Wade and Venie Stout McQueen. She worked hard alongside her parents and siblings on the family's farms throughout Old Butler.

In her mid-twenties Hazel moved from the family home to Bristol, Tennessee where she met and married Master Sargent Harris Johnson in 1944. They had one son, Theron James Johnson who was born March 29, 1946. They later moved to Elizabethton, Tennessee where she was a homemaker. She loved gardening, crocheting, reading (while she was still able) and sewing. She received certification in Power Sewing Machine (Operator) from the Tennessee State Board of Vocational Education. She was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and attended Riverview Baptist Church.

She was a simple women who put her trust in God. Throughout her life she always thought of others. In 1954 she uprooted her family to move to Maryland to stay with her niece, Yvonne, until Yvonne completed high school, after a fatal car crash took the lives of Yvonne's parents and brother. Hazel came back to her home in Elizabethton and continued to work hard raising her son and caring for her friends and neighbors.

She became a grandmother for the first time in 1968 to a grandson, Jamie Lance Johnson and then to a second grandson in 1975, Jason Vance Johnson. In 2012 she became a great-grandmother to Elijah James Roger Johnson the son of Jason Johnson and then again in 2016 when Hannah Johnson was born.

On the occasion of her 100th birthday, in October of 2015, she was honored with birthday wishes from President and Mrs. Barrack Obama, Governor Bill Haslam of Tennessee, and Leon Humphrey and the Carter County Commission. Even at the age of 100 she never missed the opportunity to share her knowledge on how to eat well and to live a long life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Theron Johnson (Lise), of Elizabethton; two grandsons, Jamie Johnson (Kathy), of Gainesville, GA; Jason Johnson (Sarah) of Kingsport, TN; two step-grandchildren, Shawn Bright, of Jonesborough; Matthew Bright (Crystal), of Johnson City; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah Johnson, Katie Bright and Hannah Johnson.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Johnson will be conducted on Monday, November 6, 2017, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, of Elizabethton with Rev. Mark Grubb and Rev. Larry Shorter officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

The committal and entombment service will be conducted following the funeral service in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

2448 ELIZABETHTON - Hazel Pauline White, of Elizabethton, was born January 27, 1928 and passed away on July 7, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shubert Earl White, her parents Dewey and Myrtle Rains Pierce, her brother-in-law, Lee Wills and son-in-law, Gary Donald Coker.

Survivors include her daughters: Janet Coker of Elizabethton and Diana Mottern of San Antonio, Texas; her granddaughters, Melinda Coker of Baltimore, Maryland and Beth Mottern, San Antonio, Texas; her great grandchildren: Veronica and Lavinia. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Ruth Willis, Daytona Beach, Florida; her beloved "spiritual" children, Sherry and Tommy Maines, of Elizabethton and Linda and Tony Trott of Johnson City; and her treasured best friends Gilda and Teddy Reed of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Pauline was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Elizabethton; and a proud member of the 'Ladies #2' Sunday School Class.

Pauline's 66 years of home-making, was the source of great and delightful pride to her husband and children for her unsurpassed talents in cooking, sewing, needlepoint, gardening, preserving, decorating, hosting and superlative, creative talent for her many, many accomplishments. She was also employed for several years, as a telephone operator (one of its last "switchboard" operators) at Carter County Memorial Hospital, where she made dozens of life-long and wonderful friends.

"Miss Pauline" had an unshakable faith in God and trust in Jesus Christ which was well demonstrated in her over 40 years of service as a preschool Sunday School teacher, where she made an unforgettable impression on hundreds of precious little souls, to include Abbie Harris, a Nurse Practitioner in Elizabethton, who is proud of her photo of herself and her favorite Sunday School Teacher.

Pauline's consistent, detailed and utterly devoted care of her mother and her husband, during each of their last years, became a matter of absolute amazement to family, friends and several members of the medical community alike. It was known as a "treat" to come to Pauline's house. No matter how busy she was, and she was always busy, you left with a full stomach and a warmed heart. Her grandson in-law, Jacob Cortez, best sums up her legacy when he said, "Of all the people of her generation that I've known, she had the most consummate grace and the quickest mind, and I will never forget the pleasure of her company."

A special notice of gratitude goes to Dr. Charles Famoyin, Sarah, and all the wonderful and knowledgeable staff of Quality of Life Health Care, Johnson City; special friends, Mr. Luther (and the late Mrs. Ann) Deloach, and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell and Ruby Garrison.

2449 ELIZABETHTON - Helen Marie Hartley Taylor, 79, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Tine & Missouri Crain Hartley. She had worked several places during her lifetime. Helen was a solider of the Lord. She loved helping people in any way she could. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dennis Taylor and five sisters: Ruby Cochran, Jean Mitchell, Lorraine Elliott, Delane Ward and Brenda Garland. She attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include two sisters: Kathy (Frank) Norris, Granite Falls, North Carolina and Carolyn Hartley, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robert Keller and Pastor Bill Hyder officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons Cemetery. Music will be provided by Shirley Ward and Ray Mitchell, pianist. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. 2450 ELIZABETHTON - Helen “Bernice” Braswell, 91, of Elizabethton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Hermitage Health Care. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Grace Stevens Dugger. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Deeston Paul Braswell. Bernice retired from American Water Heaters after 30 years of service. She was a member of New Life Tabernacle Church. Bernice enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, shopping until the late hours, cooking amazing foods and spending time with her loved ones. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Helen Bernice Braswell leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Paulette Watts and her husband, Steve of Unicoi; granddaughter, Stephanie Paulins and husband, Jeremy of Unicoi; sister, Phyllis Kirkpatrick of Elizabethton; great-granddaughter, Caitlin Paulins of Unicoi; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all.
