2351 ELIZABETHTON - Carroll L. Broome, age 87, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.

A native of Elizabethton, he was a son of the late Horace Arnold and Cora Nave Broome. Carroll was a 1948 graduate of Elizabethton High School and graduated from East TN State University. He retired as a Vice-President with Citizen's Bank. Carroll was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a very active member of First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton where he had served as a member of the Administrative Board and was a past Sunday School teacher. Carroll served as a member of the Elizabethton School Board; had been a member of the Civitan Club of Elizabethton and the Betsy Squares (square dancing). He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and loved to be around people. He was also a University of TN football fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Garrison Broome; sons, James Lavan Broome and David Brian Broome, an infant grandson, Austin James Frazier; Brothers, Horace Broome Jr. and Bob Broome; sisters-in-law, Grace Broome, Margaret Broome and Dixie Broome and nephews, Horace "Bubba" Broome III and Al Broome and his beloved dog, Millie. Those left to cherish him memory include a daughter, Linda Crowe, Elizabethton; step-daughter, Jama Frazier and husband Jim, Elizabethton; a brother, Bill Broome, Elizabethton; special caregivers, Trish Mayo, Eugene Carrier and Shannon Carrier and former caregivers, Linda, Debbie, Brenda and Denise. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Carroll L. Broome will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 30, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Raymond W. Amos, Sr. officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Tyler Fleming. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the service or at his residence at other times.

Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Rick Broome, Robert Broome, Carl Gilbert, Mike Johnson, Brett Cole and Ben Cole. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

2352 ELIZABETHTON - Carson Campbell, age 96, of Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 17, 2018 from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital.

Carson was born in Elizabethton to the late James Lawson and Elsie Goodwin Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Crow Campbell; a daughter, Brenda Campbell; and several brothers and sisters.

Carson was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He served in the 45th Infantry Division ETO. He was a founding member of True Gospel Baptist Church. Carson owned the Sunset Inn Restaurant in Elizabethton and had previously worked for Daniel Construction and TVA as a millwright. Carson was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 F&AM.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Linda Campbell Smith, of Elizabethton; one son, David "Mike" Campbell, also of Elizabethton; and one granddaughter, Eleanor Graham, of Charlotte, NC.

A graveside service to honor the life of Carson Campbell will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Dean Presnell, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

2353 ELIZABETHTON - Cathy Ann Hardin McBane, 64, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 in the Life Carter Center of Elizabethton. She was a native of Carter County, born July 26, 1957. Cathy was a graduate of Unaka High School and Milligan College with a degree in Education. She was a School Teacher and also worked at Greene Valley. She was a member of Unaka Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father; John Elwayne Hardin who passed away October 25, 1983.
Survivors include her mother: Ann Renfro Hardin. One uncle, Lawrence Hardin of Elizabethton. Also, several cousins.
Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 in the Blevins Cemetery with the Rev. Walker Roberson officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

2354 ELIZABETHTON - Cathy Lee Nave McGinnis, 72, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born March 17, 1950 in Carter County, to the late Arthur & Betty Smith Nave. Cathy was a graduate of Unaka High School. She was a retired Administrative Aide at East Tennessee State University. She loved gardening and loved to decorate. She was an active member of Riverview Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Christopher Nave.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years: Danny McGinnis. A Daughter: Karie McGinnis. A Grandson: Christopher Cobb. Two Sisters: Marsha Greenwell and Cynthia (Sister) Taylor. One Aunt: Joann Cable, One Uncle: Terry Smith. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section). Her husband, Danny will do the eulogy. Active Pallbearers will be Adam Taylor, Brent Taylor, Jeremy Cooper, Joseph Greenwell, Pat McGinnis and Wes Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Cobb, Jerry Proffitt, Theron Johnson, Eddie Taylor, Melvin Oliver, Mike Nidiffer, Greg Nidiffer, and Rick Elliott. The family would like to express a special thank you to the Nursing Staff of the 6400 Wing, Johnson City Medical Center, especially Jo Abla and Jasmin Ajanovic and Tarik Ajanovic.

2355 ELIZABETHTON - Charles "Julian" Bailey, age 80, of Elizabethton, TN went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

Born in Elizabethton, TN he was the son of the late George Pierce Bailey and Alice Elizabeth Dugger Bailey. He retired as a Supervisor from Inland Container after forty-five years of service. Mr. Bailey was a member of Southside Christian Church and he served in the U. S. National Guard for eighteen years. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis "Susie" Miller Bailey and a sister, Elsie Kyker. Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Robert Bailey and wife Carla, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Alex Bailey and wife Haley and Andrew Bailey, all of Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Bailey, Elizabethton; three sisters, Cleo Kelly, Johnson City; Mary Jane Calhoun, Elizabethton and Betty J. Ford, Elizabethton and a special nephew, Gene Bowman, Elizabethton. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Charles "Julian" Bailey will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Michael Koruschak and Mr. Keith Whitehead, ministers officiating. Music will be under the direction of No Name But His. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the funeral service or at the residence of a sister, Betty Ford, 1728 Southside Road, Elizabethton at other times.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 23, 2018 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Gene Bowman, Nick Blevins, Danny Blevins, Jimmy Kelly, Wesley Sherrill, Lynn Kyker and Sam Hopson. 2356 ELIZABETHTON - Charles Mack "Pup" Smith, 81, of Elizabethton, went Home to be with His Lord on Saturday morning, July 13, 2019 from the Johnson City Medical Center, after a brief illness. He was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Neal and Cassie Smith and preceded in death by one brother Ross Smith.

Charles graduated from Unaka High School class of 1956 and attended Milligan College. He served his country in the United States Army. He was employed for 40 years at Raytheon Missile Systems in Bristol as a Senior Industrial Engineer.

He was a very faithful member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church serving as a Trustee for over 50 years during which times he led several church building projects. He was the President of Blevins Cemetery for over 30 years.

Pup has so many friends because he never met a stranger. He always initiated the conversation and was genuinely interested in others more than himself. Whether Bojangles, Walmart, or riding his bicycle up the highway, he always found time to stop, talk, and say something encouraging or funny to everyone who crossed his path. His little burgundy truck would often block the road when he stopped to talk to his many friends and neighbors.

Pup's greatest success and first priority besides his faith was his family. He was always very involved in their lives creating countless memories and wonderful stories for them to cherish. His sense of humor and youthful spirit kept his family and friends laughing and encouraged. Pup lived a legacy by example of how to be a father and grandfather and was in the background of every major event involving his children and grandchildren. Pup showed us how to live out a legacy of faith, family, and fun!

Pup was quick to recognize his blessings and always said there was no place better than Stoney Creek. He especially loved spending time on the farm and enjoyed watching his family spend time together there. God blessed Pup to live out his life exactly as he wished by allowing him to do what he loved and spend his last days with his family, church family, and riding on his red Massey-Ferguson tractor.

Pup was an incredible husband to his loving wife of 59 – ½ years, Vera Hardin Smith. He was the proud father of two daughters and sons-in-laws: Vickie and Kenny Greer, and Gina and Randy Johnson.

Pup's pride and joy was his five grandchildren: Wes Greer and wife Mandy, Aaron Greer and wife Julie, Megan Harsh and husband Lance, Natalie Wright and husband Jeremy, Andy Johnson and fiancé Sydney Hayes.

Pup was blessed to enjoy, love, and spoil his great-grandchildren: Riley Greer, Hadley Greer, Neil Harsh, William Greer, and Lucas Wright.

He is survived by two sisters: Kathleen White, Floy Grindstaff and husband Dean. Two brothers: Billy Smith and Lynn Smith and wife Lisa. Sister-in-laws: Georgia Ellis and Karen Hardin. Two Brother-in-laws: Donald Hardin and wife Carol, David "Doug" Hardin and wife Danette. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive.

A service to honor and celebrate the incredible life of Charles Mack "Pup" Smith will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday , July 16, 2019 at New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Johnson, Pastor Bill Greer, and Pastor Ray Colbaugh officiating. Singing and Music will be provided by his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:30pm Tuesday at New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church prior to the service.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Blevins Cemetery on Liberty Hollow Road with Pastor Nick Colbaugh officiating. Active pallbearers will be Wes Greer, Aaron Greer, Andy Johnson, Riley Greer, Lance Harsh, Jeremy Wright, and special neighbor Frank Peters. Family and friends will assemble at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 9:15am Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

2357 ELIZABETHTON - Charles Ray Morton, age 72, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Charles was born January 5, 1950 in Elizabethton to the late Henry Morton and Irene (Cornett) Morton Nave. In addition to his parents, Charles was also preceded in death by four sisters, Marion Hulse, Louise Ingram, Monnie Willliams and Charlotte Street; and two brothers, Cecil Morton and Leonard Morton.

Charles was the most loving person, husband and was a wonderful provider for his family. He had worked in the construction business at PSG and also was a self-employed lawn service provider. He was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church where he loved greeting people at the door. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his yard.

Those left to cherish Charles’s memory include his wife of 25 years, Becky Morton of Elizabethton; his sons, Joe Lingerfelt, Sampson Lingerfelt and Jason (Brandi) Lingerfelt all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Brooklyn, Joseph, Maci, Aiden and Patricia; four sisters, Iva Lee Beamer, Carolyn Lyons, Joyce Norman and Ruthie Loveless; and one brother, James Nave.

2358 ELIZABETHTON - Charlotte Sue Stout, age 83, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord and met the loving arms again of her husband and dearest friend, “Jim” Stout, on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Hillview Health Center.

Charlotte was born in Carter County, Tennessee to the late Thomas Nelson and Elsie Cable Angel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Dayton Stout; and a son, James Lee Stout.

Charlotte was a persevering and devoted woman of the Christian faith. She was a homemaker and she loved her Siamese cats, shopping on QVC and loved jewelry.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Donald Stout, of Gainesville, VA; two daughters, Susan Shorter and Linda Jenkins; her grandchildren, Juliana Collins and husband Cody, Briana Cornely and husband Zach, Bradley Breeden and wife Brittany and Jimi Lee Stout and wife Breanne; and two great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Charlotte Sue Stout will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 9, 2020 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Pm until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday.

2359 ELIZABETHTON - Charlotte “Teatle” Smith, 95, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton. Charlotte was born in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Seth and Ethel Allen Robinson. In addition to her parents, Charlotte was also preceded in death by her husband, James Dick Smith.

Charlotte had been employed as a nurse assistant in a local nursing home and was a lifelong member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish Charlotte’s memory include two nieces, Anna Ruth Pierce of Elizabethton and Frances Stoneburner of Ocean City, Maryland; and two nephews, Dean Robinson of Elizabethton and Vernon Robinson of Jefferson, Maryland. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive.

A celebration of Charlotte’s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton with Reverend Kenneth Jordan and Reverend David Foster officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Saturday.

2360 ELIZABETHTON - Chris Northmore, age 82, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 3, 2017 from the Johnson City Medical Center. Chris was born in Carter County to the late Earl M. Lyons and Kate Huskins Lyons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth J. Northmore.

Chris was a former employee of Belks and Watsons Department stores, had been a substitute school teacher within the Carter County School System and was a former beautician. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing and loved Elizabethton and being with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Mike Northmore and wife Susan, of Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Heather Minton, of Elizabethton; two sisters, Lillie Fergosi and husband Richard, of Elizabethton and Merle Lynch, of Birmingham, Alabama; her nieces and nephews, Joyce Lynch, Jeannie Lambert and husband Kerry, Becky Blackwell and husband Axe, and Earl Slagle and wife Linda; and several great nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and the staff of Johnson City Medical Center, 5500 Floor.

A service to celebrate the life of Chris Northmore will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 6, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Pat Kelly officiating. 2361 ELIZABETHTON - Clara Emily (Wolfe) Scalf, age 89, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at her home. Clara was born in Elizabethton to the late Harry and Jennie (Eggers) Wolfe. In addition to her parents, Clara was also preceded in death by her son, Gary Scalf; a daughter, Debbie Scott; a grandson, Vince Little; four sisters; and one brother.

Clara had worked for Levi Strauss & Company for 30 years and was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She loved gardening and was a wonderful and kind woman, who will be dearly missed.

Those left to remember and cherish Clara’s memory include three daughters, Jackie (Dennis) Granger of Elizabethton, Sandy Scalf of Lynchburg, VA and Bregayle Scalf of the home; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Jon) Cox of Massachusetts, Jessica (Troy) Durham of North Carolina and Amber (Mark) Doss of Lynchburg, VA; five grandsons, Gary Scalf of Elizabethton, Shannon Warren of Mountain City, Chris Clark and Jeremy Bledsoe both of Lynchburg, VA and Shawn Little of Elizabethton; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and three sisters, Charlotte Bliss and Voleen Fletcher both of Elizabethton and Elizabeth (Joe) Wheat of Stewart, TN.

2362 ELIZABETHTON - Clarence Randall “Randy” Carrier, age 70 of Elizabethton and his wife, Sandra Kay “Sandy” Carrier, age 62 of Elizabethton walked through Heaven’s gate together, Sandy on Sunday, August 8, 2021 and Randy on Thursday, Augusts 12, 2021.

Randy was born in Bristol, Virginia to the late Clarence Cecil Carrier and Ossie Mae Rowe Carrier. Randy retired from the United States Postal Service where he had worked as a rural carrier. He was a 1969 graduate of Hampton High School, and he was the current minister of Pinecrest Christian Church. Randy had also served as a deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher at Borderview Christian Church for over 25 years. Randy was a member of III Day Resurrection Band- a southern gospel bluegrass band, a Masonic Grand Commander of the Masons in the state of Tennessee, a member of Dashiell Lodge #238, a past master, member of York Rite Bodies, Knights Templar, Tennessee in 1995, member of the Scottish Rite, KYGCH and numerous other organizations. He had received numerous masonic awards, degrees and titles.

Sandy was born in Bristol, Tennessee to the late Herbert Lee Willen and Helen Virginia Malone Willen. Sandy had worked as a home health caregiver and was a member of the church her husband ministered, Pinecrest Christian Church where she had taught the Children’s Church and she had also taught Children’s Church at Borderview Christian Church. She was a member of the Hampton Eastern Star- where she had attained numerous Easter Star Certifications and was a past Worthy Matron of the Social Order of Beuceant.

Randy leaves behind to cherish his memory a sister, Kathy Lynne Carrier Amstutz and husband Larry of Orrville, Ohio; two nephews, Nathan Amstutz and wife Tiffany and Micah Amstutz and wife Chelsea; two nieces, Renata Amstutz and Analyse Amstutz; and his great nieces and nephews, Cadence, Elijah, Kendall, Sofia, Phinneas and Sylvan. Many friends, neighbors and church family also survive.

Sandy leaves behind to cherish her memory two sisters, Mary Sue Willen Cross of Blountville, TN and Lola Mae Willen Rosenbalm of Bristol, VA; a brother, Charles Lee Willen of Blountville, TN; her nieces and nephews, Travis Emmert, Melissa Evans, Charles Lee Willen, Jr and Tiffany Willen; and her great niece and great nephew, Emily Evans and Tyler Evans. Many friends, neighbors and church family also survive.

Friends may register their presence and pay their respects between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton (the family will not be present).

Randy leaves behind to cherish his memory a sister, Kathy Lynne Carrier Amstutz and husband Larry of Orrville, Ohio; two nephews, Nathan Amstutz and wife Tiffany and Micah Amstutz and wife Chelsea; two nieces, Renata Amstutz and Analyse Amstutz; and his great nieces and nephews, Cadence, Elijah, Kendall, Sofia, Phinneas and Sylvan. 2364 ELIZABETHTON - Claudia Nell Ensor, 87, Elizabethton, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from Life Care Center of Elizabethton. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Blonnie Blanche Alford. Claudia was born and raised in the Carter community of Stoney Creek. She had retired as office manager for Dr. Douglas Cole, and she dearly loved the practice’s patients, her co-workers, and Dr. Cole and his family. Claudia was one of the few remaining charter members of Unaka Baptist Church, where she was a faithful choir member. She loved to sing, and especially enjoyed attending “singing school” every year, along with her good friend Ann Hardin.
Claudia was a graduate of Unaka High School, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
She was an excellent cook and home decorator and always made the holidays very special for her family.
Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were Claudia’s world. Whether it was driving them to ballgames, school events, or church activities, there was nothing she relished more. Loved ones often joked that Claudia didn’t like to sleep for fear she’d miss out on something “the kids” were doing. She admitted she was the reason a few of them were spoiled.
Claudia lost the love of her life, Ralph Ensor, on March 16, 1983, in a tragic accident. They had married on July 8, 1952, and Claudia always counted those 30 years and 8 months as the best part of her life. Claudia was also preceded in death by her cousin, Geraldine Grindstaff, who she counted as a sister.
Survivors are her three children: Jeff Ensor (wife, Nancy); Jennifer Grindstaff (husband, Gary); and Alan Ensor (wife, Pam). Five grandchildren: J.R. Ensor (wife, Julia); Justin Grindstaff (wife, Rebekah); Madison Bowman (husband, Joe); Andrea Lee (wife, Suzanne); and Adam Ensor. Ten great-grandchildren: Cale Ensor, Olivia Whittaker, Mathias Ensor, Taylor Grindstaff, Jared Grindstaff, Patrick Sexton, Charlie Bowman, Micah Lee, Coraline Lee, and Axton Ensor.
The family would like to express a very special and sincere “thank you” to all the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton for the loving care, hugs, and attention she received. You truly spoiled her! Thank you, Unaka Baptist Church family, for remembering Claudia in prayer and with visits and gifts. For the other friends of Claudia’s and the family who took the time to visit; you will never know how much your visits meant to her, and to us. A very sincere thanks to you.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William & Lottie Garland Blevins. Mr. Blevins was retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 42 years of service. He attended Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Bessie Pann ,Roberta Shell & Eula Lee Eggers. He will be driving his golf cart in a better place.

2366 ELIZABETHTON - Conley Miller, 79, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the Waters of Roan Highlands, Roan Mountain after an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Wiley & Pearl Simerly Miller. Conley served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was retired due to disability from the City of Johnson City. Conley was a member and Deacon of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Seven Brothers: J.B., Lee, Earl, Don, Dalton, Thurman and Kail. He loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Patricia (Pat) Tolley Miller. His Daughter & Son-in-law: Ginger Kay & Hobert Wilson. Two Grandchildren: Josh (Misty) Branch and Matthew. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Sol & Sarah Hayes Wilson. He was a graduate of Unaka High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Conway was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation, the Carter County Sheriff Department, a school bus driver and C & K Auto Sales. He attended Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church and First Free Will Baptist Church. Conway was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Ruth Nave Wilson, a son: Ora Dale Wilson, seven brothers: Mike, Vernon, Kay, Lonnie, Ernest, Grady & Ed Wilson and one sister: Ina Ward.

Survivors include a daughter: Kennetha Marshall, Johnson City, a son: Gary Wilson & wife Sharon, Kingsport. 2368 ELIZABETHTON - Conway Hyder, 92, Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday April 30, 2016, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late J.L. & May Cole Hyder. Conway was a graduate of Unaka High School. He was associated with his father in the operation of J.L. Hyder & Son Coal & Feed Store for several years.

Conway was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. He served on the Board of Directors of the Farm Bureau also was a past president. He also served on the Board of Directors of Citizen Bank, Hunter. He had served on the Carter County Planning Commission. He was also a member of the Carter County Cattleman Association. Conway also was a farmer.

Conway was preceded in death by his wife, Newland Hyder, April 19, 2006.

Survivors include his children, Norine & husband John Allen, and Jim and wife Adie Hyder all of Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Jamie Allen, Holli and husband Danny O'Quinn and Cameron Hyder; four great grandchildren, Patrick, Madeline, Dawson and Emma O'Quinn; several nieces, nephews & cousins including a special cousin Bill "Hartley" Hyder.

2369 ELIZABETHTON - Dallas C. Pierce, 77, of Elizabethton peacefully passed away in his home on Tuesday, October 11. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Armstrong and Grace Smith Pierce. Dallas was a faithful member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and had served as a deacon. He had a servant’s heart and was always helping others.

He was a 1963 graduate of Unaka High School and had retired from Mapes Piano String.

Dallas loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James O Pierce and Guerney Pierce and two sisters, Evelyn Williams and Georgia Grindstaff.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Matherly Pierce; a daughter Lisa (Mike) Wells of Jonesborough; a son Gary Pierce and his partner Dauphine Foix of San Antonio, TX; two grandsons, Evan & Andrew Wells; a sister, Patsy Stout; brothers, Rhonda (Shirley) Pierce, Lawrence (Pauletta) Pierce, and Dean (Loretta) Pierce; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Pierce and Wanda Pierce; several nieces and nephews also survive.

2370 ELIZABETHTON - Dallas Wayne “Butch” Calloway, age 77, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was a son of the late Dallas and Mosella Pierce Calloway and was born on October 24, 1945 in Washington County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Hyder. Butch was a United States Air Force veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of Watauga Point United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his many memories include his wife of fifty years, Elizabeth “Lou” Whittington Calloway; two daughters, Kristy Wagner (Trafton) of Knoxville, TN and Jennie Barber (Tim) of Lafollette, TN; five grandchildren, Hunter Wagner, Chloe Wagner, Jack Bean, Mille Bean and Molly Bean.

A service to celebrate the life of Dallas Wayne “Butch” Calloway will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 7, 2022 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Mike Berry and Pastor Lou Miller officiating. 2371 ELIZABETHTON - Darrell Wade Woods, age 82, of Elizabethton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at his home. Wade was born in Carter County, a son of the late John R. Woods and Mary Ann (Treadway) Woods. In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diana Gail Woods; a brother, Glenn H. Woods; and his half-brother, Jerry Woods.

Wade loved his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with his entire being and they in turn thought the world of him. Wade retired from Nuclear Fuel Services after 35 years of service and was a member of East Side Christian Church where he was also a deacon. Wade loved watching the Lady Vols basketball, Duke and March Madness. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with his coon dogs- he was a member of Stoney Creek Coon Club. Wade’s favorite country music singer was Loretta Lynn.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Edd & Annie Simerly Hampton. D.H. attended Hampton High School and graduated from East Tennessee State College with a degree in Mathematic's. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean & Vietnam Era. He was a retired Naval Flight Officer and Land Surveyor and Real Estate Developer. He was a member of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. D.H. attended the Unity Church of the Tri Cities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Ann Wark Hampton, a son Daniel Hampton, and brothers: Dewey A. Hampton and Harold G. Hampton and a sister: Mary Hampton Brewer.

Survivors include his wife: Barbara Bristol Hampton. His Sons: Edward Hampton & wife Teresa Collins Hampton and David Hampton Jr. & wife Deborah Hughes Hampton. 2374 ELIZABETHTON - David Kenneth Estep, 57, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 in the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born December 11, 1963 in Elizabethton to the late George H. Estep, Jr., & Betty Jo Bishop Estep. David was a graduate of Unaka High School, he attended Carson Newman College , ETSU and Milligan College majoring in music. He worked at American Water Heater for 28 years.
David was a very talented musician, composer, arranger and teacher. He composed and published works for the organ, piano and hand bells. He also taught piano & organ for several years. David served as organist at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for 18 years, also Central Baptist Church, Johnson City and First Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
Survivors include his wife: Rebecca Hamrick Estep, one son: Christopher Benjamin Estep of the home: two Brothers: Mike (Karen) Estep and Jeff (Sharron) Estep.

2375 ELIZABETHTON - David Rick McKinney “Doc”, age 69, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Rick was born on March 30, 1953 in Elkhart, Indiana to the late David Alden McKinney and Margie Ann (Treadway) McKinney. In addition to his parents, Rick was also preceded in death by two brothers, D.R. McKinney and Dale McKinney; two grandchildren, Austin Godfrey and Madison Godfrey; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jo and Gene Smith.

Rick had been employed as a pipefitter and was a United States Navy veteran. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. Rick loved life and living it to it’s fullest! He especially loved the lake, fishing, all types of music and actually played the guitar very well. He loved John Wayne films and westerns. Rick was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was born August 4, 1935 in Unicoi County, Tennessee to the late Conley and Mae Miller Simerly. Lynn was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was a dedicated Christian and loved the Lord. He was a member of the West Side Christian Church. Lynn was a retired Inspector for the Tennessee Department of Transportation after 41 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years Libby Brooks Simerly. A daughter, Debra Cochran and husband Tim. Two Sons: Terry Simerly and wife Jamie and Robert Lynn Elliott and wife Cindy. 2377 ELIZABETHTON - Dayton Ray Stout, age 71, of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Dayton was born in Elizabethton, a son of Rosa (Williams) Stout and the late Fred C. Stout. In addition to his father, Dayton was also preceded in death by two brothers, McKinley “Mack Foister Stout and Darrell Stout; one half-brother, Fred Stout, Jr.; and one half-sister, Lela Stout Hart.

Dayton was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and was a United States Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He retired from the United States Postal Service. He received many awards and received much recognition while in service in Vietnam.

Dayton had a wonderful sense of humor and loved motorcycle racing. He was known as a dare devil and loved all people and had compassion for everyone. In his spare time, Dayton enjoyed working on cars, running, reading books and collecting rocks.

2378 ELIZABETHTON - Del Whaley, 64, Elizabethton passed away Sunday March 3, 2019 at his residence.

Born October 31, 1954 in Johnson City to the late Dewey L. & Gracie Mae Couch Whaley. He was a graduate of Unaka High School and East Tennessee State University with a degree in Business Management. Del was a Pharmacy Tech with Wal Mart, Elizabethton. He was a former TSSAA official. He was a Non-Denominational Christian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son Patrick Broach.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years Caroline King Whaley. A Step Daughter: Erica Stewart. Two Grandchildren: Stephanie Shea Stacey (Josh) and Sydnee Blake Thier (David). Six Great Grandchildren: Graeson Hunnel, Bishop Thier, Kuechly Thier, Alyvia Thier, Hadley Stacey and Easton Stacey. His Brother: D.L. Whaley (Martha). Several Nieces & Nephews. His Mother-In-Law; Madeline King. His fur baby Poshi.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bob Couch and Rev. H.C. Couch officiating. 2379 ELIZABETHTON - Dicky James Blackwell, 80, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022 at his residence after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Claude Burns & Lucy Julian Blackwell. Dicky served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired as a welder and pipe fitter. In later years he was associated with his wife, Robin, in the operation of the Corner Nest. Dicky was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238 for 48 years, the Elizabethton Chapter Order of Eastern Star, The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)and The Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He was a member of the Jericho Oriental Band for 48 years and he was a past President of the SASOBA Oriental Band. He was an avid UT Football fan, loved to cook and work in his garden. He was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Ronnie Blackwell.

2380 ELIZABETHTON - Don Steve Church, 72, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022 in the Hillview Health Center. He was a son of Gordie and Christine Birchfield Church

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a sister, Patricia “Patye” Church Heaton in May, 2021.

Don was generous with wit and humor, spinning tales often shading the truth for the sake of sharing a good story. His laughter was always loud and hearty. He was kind and enjoyed his own company apart from the time spent with a very few dear friends and family. He was single and had no children. His dearest friends were his brother Chris Church and cousin Ronnie Heaton and friend Joey Jackson (deceased). He was a man who had talents he rarely made known in his later years such as his creativity in drawing, singing, and playing guitar. He was a shark at billiards. He was a carpenter, a trained welder and worked all over America as a millwright. Don was a shade tree mechanic who preferred older used vehicles to new ones. He enjoyed watching westerns and comedies. He took pride in the house and property he had owned on Sims Hill Road which had belonged to his beloved aunt and uncle, Lorna and Coy Heaton, and where he spent a great deal of his childhood. He lived a life of simplicity and loved it, though it was difficult at times. He suffered a stroke in July, 2021 that left him unable to speak but through hard work he regain his ability to walk and even lived on his own a short time. He fought valiantly. His strongest desire was to go home and now he is.

He leaves his brother, Chris Church, Elizabethton; a sister, Teresa Church West; brother in law, Greg Heaton, Elizabethton; special cousins, Ronnie Heaton (Lisa), Elizabethton, Wanda Heaton McCoury (Lee), Roan Mountain, and Randy Heaton (Gail), Missoula, MT.; nieces Jaime Heaton Norris, Janalan Heaton Setlock (Duane), Megan Heaton, and Kristen Heaton Johnson (Chris), all of Elizabethton; nephews Stephen Heaton and Gregory “Seth” Heaton, both of Elizabethton; and several grandnieces, grandnephews and greatgrands; two friends, Tony Greene and Don Powers, both of Elizabethton.

2381 ELIZABETHTON - Donald B. Carden, age 76, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from his residence, following a brief illness.

Donald was born in Carter County on January 11, 1941 to the late George and Veona Nave Carden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Carden; and one sister, Shirley Turner.

Donald retired from Inland Container and was a member of Siam Baptist Church. He enjoyed walking at Wilbur Dam, golfing, gardening, spending time with his family and watching Tennessee Vols Sports.

Those left to cherish his memory include three sisters, Wilma Sanders, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Janice Holt and husband Larry, of Jonesborough, TN, and Joyce Taylor, of Lenoir, NC; two brothers, Earnest Carden and wife Etta, and Howard Carden, all of Elizabethton; eleven nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews, as well as several good friends and neighbors, also survive.

A native of Carter County, he was born May 25, 1930, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to the late Alfonzo & Pearl Pierce Williams. He had lived in Carter County for a number of years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Inland Container after 37 years of service. In earlier years he loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Eva Williams, three sisters: Gertrude Bradley, Reba Lane and Kathleen Cornett and three brothers: Jack, Palmer and A.F. Williams.

2383 ELIZABETHTON - Donald L. Hardin, 90, Elizabethton ,went to be with his Lord Sunday, December 8, 2019 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness.

A native of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, he was a son of the late Auda A. of the Hardin Brothers Quartett and Viola Peters Hardin. He lived most of his life in Elizabethton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart and other service related metals. He was an employee of American Bemberg Corporation and North American Rayon Corporation for 25 years. He was also an Electrician & Pipe Fitter and a millwright at various construction companies. Don was also a self-employed auto mechanic. He was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an Infant son: Terry Hardin, three brothers: Charles, Danny Ray and Olan "Pie" Hardin and a sister: Alma "Bo" Williams.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years: Carol Groce Hardin. His Children: Randy Hardin & wife Darlene, Tim Hardin & wife Doris and Wendy Watson. 2384 ELIZABETHTON - Donnie Collins, age 75, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Donnie was born in Elizabethton to the late Jack D. Collins, Sr. and Hazel Stout Collins. In addition to his parents, Donnie was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack D. Collins, Jr. “Bud”; and a granddaughter, Addison Shepherd.
Donnie retired as an office administrator for Mullican Flooring and was a member of East Fairview Free Will Baptist Church where he currently served as a deacon. Donnie enjoyed working with computers and his grandchildren were his entire life!

Donnie was born in Carter County to the late Arnold and Goldie Hyder Wallace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Wallace.

Donnie was a loving wife and mother and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She retired as an administrative assistant and loved antiques, collectables, traveling and working in her yard tending her flowers.

2386 ELIZABETHTON - Doris Spears Bare, 87, of Elizabethton, TN left her earthly body on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by her family for her Heavenly body after a lengthy fight with Dementia. Doris was born in Sullivan County, TN on November 06, 1933 to the late Frank and Maude Davis Spears. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Kenneth and Eugene Spears.

Doris was a homemaker who loved to keep a spotless home. She loved to cook for her family and friends. Nobody left her home hungry. She loved to travel and made many bus trips with her best friend and aunt, the late Opal Odom. She enjoyed reading her Bible which she read completely seven times. She enjoyed going to church until her health prevented it. She never met a stranger, would help anyone she could and loved everyone. She was a life long member of Mountain View Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 68 years who was her loving caregiver, John H. Bare. Three daughters: Merita Kent, Teresa Harding and Jennifer Arnold. Four Grandchildren: Jonathan and Jessica Harding, Holly Ray and Emilee Jones. Four Great Grandchildren: Gabe and Avery Harding and Bentley and Brenlee Jones. Five sisters and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Claude & Lillie Fritts Grindstaff. Dorothy was a graduate of Unaka High School. She had worked for the Blue Springs Utility District for a number of years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Carl Deloach, brothers: David (Dave) Grindstaff, Wes, Harold, and AB Grindstaff, her sisters: Ruby, Opel, Dimple and June.

Survivors include her daughter: Kathy Grindstaff of the home, special friend and caregiver, Joy Peterson also of the home. One sister: Josie Shook (Jack). One Brother: Elic Grindstaff. A special sister-in-law: Polly Grindstaff, several nieces and nephews also one special aunt: Una Glick of Delaware.

2388 ELIZABETHTON - Dorothy “Dot” C. Little, age 93, of Elizabethton passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Mrs. Little was born in Sullivan County, TN, but lived most of her life in Carter County, TN. She was the daughter of the late Mitchell P. Carr and Sula M. Dempsey Carr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Emory L. “Jack” Little on November 22, 2020 and by her brother and two sisters. Mrs. Little was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Berdell Little (Ann). Several nieces and nephews also survive.

2389 ELIZABETHTON - Dr. Harold Stout, 84, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday August 30, 2017.

Coach Stout was born in Elizabethton to the late John and Lela Stout. He graduated from Elizabethton High School and had a successful college baseball and basketball career at East Tennessee State University. He completed his Masters in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1959 and his Doctorate in Education from ETSU in 1974. Coach Stout was the head baseball coach at Milligan College for 24 years and at ETSU for 7 years. He had an outstanding and highly accomplished coaching career. Coach Stout made a significant impact on many young men throughout the years by teaching them the value of faith, hard work, sportsmanship and pride.

Coach Stout was also an educator and taught at the College and High School level for over 40 years.

He was also a great father, husband and friend to many people in the East Tennessee community. He loved his family, his church, the game of baseball and his roses. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie and her daughters Paulette, Dena and Donna, son Tony and his wife Lisa and daughters Kendall and Kailee, daughter Anlyn Hughes and her husband John and daughter Stephanie Sibley. He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Kindelon and her sons Al and Nathan Wallace and nieces Nancy Turley and Teri Neil.

2390 ELIZABETHTON - Earl "Jabo" Grindstaff, age 86, of Elizabethton passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Earl was born in Carter County, Tennessee to the late Thomas R.L. Grindstaff and Eva Brown Bowers Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Junior Grindstaff.

Earl was a devoted and loving husband, father, papaw, and great papaw. He was the owner and operator of Grindstaff Used Cars for over 52 years and he proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. Earl was a member of Highlands Fellowship and was a volunteer fireman for the Elizabethton/ Carter County Fire Department. He was hardworking and determined and had an abundance of energy. He also enjoyed Nascar, woodworking and in fact he had taught a class in woodworking. Earl also enjoyed hunting and made hunting trips to Wyoming each year.

2391 ELIZABETHTON - Earl E. Williams, 88, Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord Tuesday March 17, 2020 at the Hillview Health Center after a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Tyler O. & Nannie Simerly Williams of Hunter Community. He was a 1949 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the Korean Conflict and the United States Army Medical Corps. Earl was retired from Watson’s where he was store manager for over 40 years. He was Past President of Elizabethton Civitan Club, A Volunteer Worker at ARM. Earl was an active member of West Side Christian Church and the 90 + 9 Men’s Sunday School Class and an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Dora Morris Williams, and his brothers: Ray Eugene Williams in 2001 and Larry Robert Williams 2005.

Survivors include Two Nieces: Brenda Williams, her daughter Jessica and grandson Theodore. Linda Martin and her husband John and many close cousins.

2392 ELIZABETHTON - Earl Stout, age 81, of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Life Care Center of Gray. He was the son of William and Viola Stout. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Stout and Gene Stout; and a daughter, Linda Stout.

Earl is survived by his wife, Janice Stout, of the home; and a son, Darrell Stout, also of the home; and one brother, Jerry Stout and wife Mytoka of Elizabethton.

No formal visitation will be conducted at either the funeral home or the home. The graveside will be private at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Jerry Stout presiding.

2393 ELIZABETHTON - Earnest "Ernie" Fortner, 80, Siam Community of Elizabethton passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 in the Four Oaks Health Care Center of Jonesborough.

He was a son of the late Rhudy and Mamie Estep Fortner. Mr. Fortner was a farmer and a member of the Horseshoe Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, western movies and all of his friends from John Reed Nursing Home and Four Oaks Health Care Center. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenda Hall and Irene Shirley; five brothers, David Fortner, Larry Fortner, Jimmy Fortner, Lloyd Fortner and James W. Fortner.

Survivors include a sister, Fannie Mae Fortner Henshaw Gosnell of Jonesborough; a brother, Bruce Fortner of Lincoln, Nebraska; two special sisters-in-law, Trula B. Fortner, Elizabethton and Alazine Fortner, Scherltz, Texas; also several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in the Horseshoe Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilbur Dam Road, Elizabethton with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

2394 ELIZABETHTON - Earnest “Pig” Carden, age 76, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January, 11 2020 from Hermitage Health and Rehab surrounded by his family.

Earnest was born in Carter County to the late George Carden and Veona Nave Carden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Raymond, Donald and Howard Carden and one sister, Shirley Carden Turner of Michigan.

Earnest was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved listening to bluegrass music, attending the covered bridge festivals, hunting, fishing, camping at the lake and rooting for the Tennessee Vols and Hampton Bulldogs. He raised blue ribbon cantaloupe. He was a dedicated employee. He worked at North American Rayon Corporation for over 30 years until they closed. /he retired form Mapes Piano Strings with a decade of service. He did not fear hard work.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Etta Peters Carden; two daughters, Donna Carden and Lisa Ashley and husband Adam; four grandchildren, Brooklynn Ashley, Dawson Boer, Raegan Ashley and Brayden Ashley; three sisters, Wilma Sanders, of Edwardsburg, MI, Jan Holt and husband Larry and Joy Taylor, of Lenoir, NC. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A service to honor the life of Earnest “Pig” Carden will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2020 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Nick Colbaugh and Shannon Sims, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Monday. The family requests that those attending wear Hampton Bulldog or UT Vols attire

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00AM on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Nave Cemetery in the Siam Community. 2395 ELIZABETHTON - Edith Bowers Campbell, age 89, a loving mother and grandmother of 1209 Happy Valley Street, Elizabethton, TN formerly of 161 South Street in the Hunter Community passed away Friday, March 27, 2020 at the residence of her daughter.

A native of Carter County she was the daughter of the late John M. and Nettie Jenkins Bowers. Mrs. Campbell worked at the lunch counter in the S. H. Kress store and everyone in Elizabethton knew her and her friendly face. In the Hunter community she was known for her beautiful yard and garden. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Roan Campbell and several brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Judy Walton, Sharon Mosier and husband Don and Kathy Perry and husband John, all of Elizabethton; a son, Tony Campbell, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Jim Walton, John Perry, Tina McNair, Michael Shouse and Chelsey Campbell; great-grandchildren, Monica Volsky and husband Austin, Hannah McNair, Savanna McNair, Zach McNair, Kyleigh Campbell, Hadley Shouse and Levi Shouse; a brother, Verl Bowers and wife Mae, Hampton; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hall, Elizabethton and brother-in-law, Bobby Campbell, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

2396 ELIZABETHTON - Edith Finney, age 94, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

She was a daughter of the late Parker G. and Nettie Cable Main and was born on February 11, 1925 in Butler, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Finney and three brothers, Edgar "Bud" Main, W.K. "Bob" Main and Parker G. Main, Jr.

Edith was a happy and caring person who was always ready to help others in need. She was a long-time member of Sims Hill Christian Church who regularly attended all of the services and activities as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Carter County Humane Society for over twenty years.

Edith loved being a homemaker and was known for her cozy and inviting home that she always enjoyed decorating for the holidays. She loved gardening and was proud of preserving the vegetables that she had grown. She was blessed to have many friends and enjoyed life.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Stella Tester of Elizabethton and Mary Jo Laws of Butler; a niece, Penny White of Elizabethton; a nephew, Larry Finney of Elizabethton; special friends and relatives including: Peggy Davenport, Shelia Woods, Mack and Linda Henry, Bill and Sharron Hampton and other nieces, nephews and cousins who were all special to Edith.

A service to celebrate the life of Edith Finney will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Brett Jones, Minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Sheila Woods. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, prior to the funeral service.

2397 ELIZABETHTON - Edith H. Collins, age 91, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, May 25, 2018 from the Christian Care Center in Blountville, Tennessee.

Edith was born in Carter County to the late Joe Brown Lewis and Dora Overbay Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Jay Collins, in 1972; three sisters; and one brother.

Edith retired from Tri-State Container after 35 years of service and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She had served as a Pink Lady at Sycamore Shoals Hospital for 20 years and loved working in her yard and her flowers.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Joe Collins and wife Brenda and Mike Collins and wife Kathy, all of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Mark Collins and wife Jena and Cody Collins and wife Juliana, all of Elizabethton; six great grandchildren, Grace Ramazzini and husband Domenico, Luke Collins, Joseph Collins, Anna Collins, Sylvia Collins and Porter Collins; and three special friends, Dot "Ida" Oaks, Virginia McQueen and Hildred Lewis, all of Elizabethton.

A service to celebrate the life of Edith H. Collins will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. 2398 ELIZABETHTON - Edith Montgomery Wilson Phillips, age 90, of Elizabethton, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 23, 2017. Edith was born in her home on Walnut Mountain on March 3, 1926 to the late William Henry "W.H." Montgomery and Carrie Elizabeth Heaton Montgomery. Edith was preceded in death by her first husband, Buster Wilson, who was the father of her five children; and her second husband, Dennis Phillips, with whom she shared 18 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Wayne, Walter, Quentin, Ray G., and Lee A. Montgomery; and her sisters, Alma Scalf Banner and Ruth Mitchell.

Edith was a homemaker and was a member of Siam Baptist Church. She and Dennis, enjoyed camping at Roan Mountain and Toe River Campground, raising a garden and canning food, and dancing at the Senior Citizen Center. She was a very caring mother, wife and sister and was loved by all she met. Her family and extended family (caretakers) worked together to keep her at home during her illness. She was very humble and gracious, always saying thank you. She enjoyed crochet, crafts of all kinds, basket making, and needlework. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Jill Simerly and husband Michael, of Elizabethton and Judy Sutton and husband Michael, of Kingsport; three sons, Edward Wilson, of Hampton, Jerry Wilson of Elizabethton, and Jeffrey Wilson and wife Jean, of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Michelle Berry, April Wheeler, Daniel, Joey, and Olivia Wilson, and Jonathan and Jason Wilson; her great grandchildren, Owen and Carly Wheeler; her sister, Anne Gragg, of Elizabethton; and her brother, Carroll Montgomery and wife Jessie, of Elizabethton.

A graveside service to honor the life of Edith Montgomery Wilson Phillips will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Happy Valley Memorial Park, with Rev. Jack Roddy, officiating. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 AM on Wednesday.

2399 ELIZABETHTON - Edith Williams, 86, of Elizabethton passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Hillview Health Center after a lengthy illness.

She was a native of Carter County. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Williams, February 4, 2006, a grandson Walter Slagle, her parents Lionel and May Pierce Vandeventer, a sister Pearl Hilman and a brother Arlin Vandeventer. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and always enjoyed helping her husband on the farm. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters; Diana Hodge and her husband, Hugh, May Slagle and her husband, Walt, and Kay Rowland and her husband, Gordon; two grandsons Travis Rowland and his wife, Christy, Nathan Hodge and his fiancé Crystal Rowe and one granddaughter Charity Rowland Gunn; one great-grandson; Bryson Rowland; three great-granddaughters; Caitlyn and Breanna Gunn and Maggie Rowland. A brother, Floyd Vandeventer and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hillview Health Center for their care of our mom and also her brother Floyd Vandeventer and the ladies from Pleasant Beach Baptist Church who frequently visited with our mom.

Funeral services for Mrs. Williams will be conducted at 1 pm Tuesday, February 6, 2018, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 pm.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Harper and Tyler Hyder.
