1851 Danny Ray Cable, age 70, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from his residence. Danny was born in Carter County to the late Millard William Cable and Mary Bell Stout Cable. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elwood Von Cable.

Danny had worked as a butcher for 17 years at Smithdeals and had also worked at Snap-On-Tools of Elizabethton for over 16 years. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a man of God and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed camping, hiking, being outdoors, farming and helping those in need.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Barbara Miller Cable, of the home; his daughter, Annette Broadbridge and husband Aidan, of Sweden; his son, Jackie Ray Cable, of Elizabethton; his grandchildren, Brett Allen Cable, of Elizabethton and Levi Aidan Broadbridge, of Sweden; eight brothers, Darrell Cable and wife Judith, of Marion, NC, Donnie Cable and wife Roberta, of Butler, Loyd Cable and wife Regina, of Hickory, NC, Dale Cable and wife Karen, of Hampton, Charles Cable and wife Janice, of Hampton, Ellis Cable and wife Belle, of Butler, Gary Cable and wife Rose, of Elizabethton and Jerry Cable and wife Sharon, of Butler; two sisters, Delores Hicks and husband Jerry, of Butler and Susie Carter and husband Bruce, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as his special friends, Allison and Jack Chidester, of West Carrolton, OH, Joy and Larry Kennedy, of Elizabethton, Paula and Wayne Phillips, of SC and M.E. Fair, of Elizabethton.

A service to honor the life of Danny Ray Cable will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with his brothers, Rev. Charles Cable, Mr. Donnie Cable and Rev. Darrel Cable, officiating. Music will be under the direction of his son-in-law, Aidan Broadbridge, violinist. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday; or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, in the Cable Cemetery, Dye Leaf Road, in Butler. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

1852 DANVILLE, VA - Jennie Lee Wagner, 89, of 321 Hanley Circle, Danville, VA, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Bright Leaf Place, where she had been a resident for the past six weeks.

Jennie was born in Mountain City, TN on February 20, 1933, a daughter of the late Lee Roy Wagner and Florence Potter Wagner. She grew up in Tennessee where she graduated from Maryville College and went on to graduate from Appalachian State University where she obtained her master’s degree in education.

Jennie had a vast career in education that encompassed teaching and counseling in the Halifax County and Pittsylvania County School Systems. She was also the former principal of Brosville Elementary School and then went on to be the principal at Mount Herman Elementary School where she retired in 1995. After retirement she was a member of the Pittsylvania County Retired Teachers Association. In order to help others receive the education that they needed, Jennie was the benefactor for the Florence P. Wagner and Jennie Lee Wagner Scholarships through the Community Foundation.

She was also a member of Isaac Anderson Society of Maryville College, and a member of the Danville District Hermitage Guild. She worked for AARP as a driving instructor for the Safe Driving Program and she enjoyed volunteering with the local hospital for many years.

Jennie was an active member of Brosville United Methodist Church, where she had held a variety of leadership positions within the church including, Sunday school teacher. She was also one of the founders for the Wenonda Gathering. In her spare time Jennie enjoyed interests that included, gardening, hiking, visiting the national parks, and reading.

On October 11, 2003 she married the late Richard Douglas Pennington.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Roy Luke and William "Billy" Wagner; her sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Nellie Wagner; one nephew; and one niece.

Survivors include, her step-daughters, Arlene Smoot and Donna Williams; sister-in-law, Carol McClanahan; one nephew, James Roy "J.R." Wagner; two nieces, Peggy Brown and Norma Jean Ward; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Brosville United Methodist Church with Pastor Intek Oh officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mountain, City TN.

William Bloodworth

Died at his residence in Marshall County, Miss., on
the 24 day of November, 1860, William Bloodworth, at
the advanced age of 82 years. The deceased was born
in Edgecombe County, N.C., emigrated in early life
to Wilson County, Tennessee, thence to Haywood County,
West Tennessee, where he joined the Baptist Church, and
thence moved to the State of Mississippi. He was a
consistent and honored member of the church of his
choice for some twenty-five years. He was an esteemed
citizen of the community in which he lived, and enjoyed
the confidence of all who knew him. His death was, as
his life had been, that of a righteous man. He leaves
an aged companion and several children to mourn his loss.

1854 Darlene P. Ingram passed away on March 25th following a brief and unexpected illness. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, sisters, daughter-and son-in law, niece and friends. Darlene was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 16th, 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband, Butch Ingram and her parents, Lillie Elizabeth Bailey and George Divilbiss.

Darlene was a member of Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church; a congregation she loved and where she was loved in return. She loved Gospel music, singing solos and was a choir member for many years. Darlene was spunky with a young heart and an open mind. She was a forever Elvis Presley and Ric Flair fan. Darlene enjoyed thrift store shopping, vintage hats, puzzles, and reading. She was the best momma and loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally.

Darlene is survived by her daughters, Teresa Boggs (Jim), and Mary Lee Baker (Randy) and her son, Kenneth “Kenny” Ingram (Angie). She adored her five grandsons: Nolan, Jon-Wesley (Sara) and Riley Boggs and Tanner and Trey Baker, and her great granddaughter, Layla Elizabeth Boggs; sisters, Shelvie Burks, Esther Hiles, and Joyce Parlett and her brother Nelson Divilbiss and several amazing nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Rich Acres Ladies Timeout, God’s Corner, and her new friends at the JC Memorial Senior Center for adding extra joy to her life.

A graveside service with family and friends will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday March 30, 2023 in the Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Pastors Kenneth Grindstaff and Brett Jones officiating. Mr. Ronald Barnett, a longtime friend, will lead the family in song. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

1855 Darlene R. Barlow, 72, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 29th at her daughter's home in Landenberg, PA. She was the wife of the late Laverne Barlow, with whom she had shared 47 years of marriage.

Born in Butler, Tennessee, Darlene was the daughter of the late Effie (Black) and Willie Willard Trivette.

She is survived by six children: Donna Smith (Steven) of Oxford, Robin Roberts (Tim) of Mountain City, TN, Freida Moore (Gary) of Nottingham, PA, Dwayne Barlow (Mary) of West Grove, PA, Keith Barlow (Angela) of Butler, TN and Tammy Snyder (Chris) of Landenberg, PA; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and five siblings, Irene Anderson of West Chester, PA Joyce Mandler of Arab, Al., Allen Trivette of Stoney Creek, TN, Mildred Sobotka of Kingsport, TN., and Mary Sizemore of Appalachia, VA.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 5th at 11 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment at Union Hill Cemetery of Kennett Square, PA.

1856 Darlie C. Hyder, 85, Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012, in the Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie & Lockie Hilman Tolley. She was a retired employee of Texas Instruments after 18 years of service, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church.

She loved to garden, read and work in her flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Hyder; two sisters: Leafie Payne, Alpha Tipton; and three brothers: Mack, Julius, Paul Tolley.

Survivors include her daughter: Sandra Forbes and fiancé, Jimmy Stevens; Her sisters & brothers who she dearly loved: Shirl Davis, Geneva Roberts, of Hampton, and Mahala Hampton, of Alabama; Three Brothers: Wade Tolley and wife, Linda, Herman Tolley and wife, Shonette, and Jack Tolley, all of Hampton; Several nieces & nephews; A Sister-in-law: EllaJay Tolley; Her extended special family, The Hyder Family; Her special friends: Bob & Nancy Fillers, George & Brenda Roberson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sam Ferguson officiating.

Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by her niece, Sheridan Seigler. Active Pallbearers will be: Myron Hyder, Bob Fillers, Tim Davis, Hershel Scalf, George Roberson, Billy Jack Tolbert, Marvin "Buck" Johnson, Danny Cole and Glen Roy Cates. 1857 Darrell "Dolly" Egli Spake, 87, of Fallston, N.C., went to her heavenly home Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Carolinas HealthCare System-Cleveland with her loving husband by her side.
Born October 20, 1930, in Elizabethton, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Howard and Roberta Egli.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bill Spake.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Fallston Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Fallston Baptist Church with the Rev. David Blanton officiating. The entombment will follow the services in the Rose Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, Fallston.

1858 Darrell Carter Guinn, 73, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly, March 1, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Earnest and Mary Birchfield Guinn.
Darrell served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He retired from Climate Controllers Heating and Air. Prior to that he worked at North American Rayon Corporation for 23 years.
Darrell attended First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest Guinn Jr. and Tommy Guinn.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Judy Simerly Guinn; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy Guinn (Jon) Whitson; special granddaughters, Reiley Grace Whitson and Emilee Reese Whitson; special nephews and nieces, Jill and Sydney Markland, Toby Guinn and Randy Guinn; his special neighbors, Kenneth Arney, Dennis Stout and Richard Crowe; and a special cousin, Bernice Lewis.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in the John Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton, with the Rev. Nathan Jennings and Dr. Alan King officiating. 1859 Darrell Clifton Blackburn, 71, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Agape Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Johnson City. He was born April 29, 1952 in Elizabethton to David Powell and Inez Blackburn. Darrell was a 1971 graduate of Elizabethton High School and was retired from Kennametal, Johnson City. He was a Number 1 Cyclone Fan, attending all the games of basketball and football or anything else the Cyclones were involved in. He loved to hear the Betsy Band perform and listen to music of the ’60s. Darrell was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, Elizabethton. Survivors include his wife, Judy Deloach Blackburn; two children, Jennifer Taylor and Jason Russell; and two grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Kaleb Collins and Zachary Russell. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, in the Highland Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Jennings officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, will be Brandon Hodges, Chris Hodges, Robert White, Jonathan Grindstaff, Andrew Stonecipher, Jason Russell, Landon Duncan and Steve McLemore. Honorary pallbearers will be Janet and Damian Hill, Lena and Aaron Wells, Christy Hodges, Sandra Guinn and students and former students of Elizabethton High School. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a son of Mary Ellen Moody of Jonesborough and the late Fred T. Moody. Darrell was a self-employed painter. He attended Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a son Brandon Hartsook.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Tolley Moody of Jonesborough; his children, Dustin Britt of Johnson City, Tammy Sue Peters, of Jonesborough, Heather Carver and husband, Daniel of Jonesborough and Teddy Hartsook and wife, Melissa of Kingsport; two brothers, Gary Moody and wife, Vickie and Andrew Moody all of Johnson City; a sister, Vicky Lee Moody of Johnson City; eight grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Darrell will be conducted at 1:30 PM Thursday, November 11, 2021 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the service hour. 1861 Darrell McCoy Harmon passed away peacefully at his home in the Poga Community of Butler, Tenn., on June 19, 2023. Darrell was born in Unicoi, Tenn., on December 25, 1943 to the late Henry Coy Harmon and Lesta Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special aunt and uncle, France and Macie Harmon; sister, Reba Ellen Brown and her spouse Paul; and sister, Edith Guy and her husband Frank. Darrell was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church and attended faithfully with his beloved wife until his health prevented going. Darrell started in life as a farmer then became a factory worker, followed by driving a school bus and eventually became long haul trucker. He was raised with a strong faith in the Lord, that family meant everything and a tremendous work ethic. His favorite pastimes were fishing, reloading ammo and mechanical projects. His legacy is love of family and God, hard work and honesty and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Those left to cherish and remember Darrell are his beloved wife, Nancy Louise Harmon of the home; two sisters, Alma Harmon Carter of Elizabethton and Juanita Harmon Brown of Elizabethton; his brother, Henry Coy Harmon Jr.; his daughter, Vicky Maya Bobadilla and husband Adrian of the home; his son, Timothy Darrell Harmon and wife Michele of Elberta; four granddaughters, Heather Guy and husband Richie, Amber Maze of Deep Gap, Alexis Harmon of Elizabethton and Katrina Harmon of Elizabethton; two grandsons, David Mallard and wife Clara Beth of Elizabethton, and James Harmon of Elizabethton; a stegrandson, James Walker of Elberta; four great-granddaughters, Sierra Tester of Gray, Sarina Mallard of Deep Gap, Aurora Guy of Elizabethton and Brianna Mallard of Elizabethton; and one great-grandson, Levi Maze of Deep Gap. 1862 Darrell Milton Gilbert, 69, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at his home. He was born on July 11, 1946, in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late Oris Gilbert and Rosa Lee Arnold Dunn, who passed away November 29, 2014. In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Francis Gilbert, who passed away on November 18, 2014, and his brother-in-law, Junior Murphy. Darrell was a 1965 graduate of Johnson County High School. He had worked as a truck driver and for Leco Manufacturing and for the Johnson County Highway Dept. Darrell enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, going to Cherokee, N.C., four wheeling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his daughters, Tammy McElyea and husband Danny and Jackie Johnson; sisters, Janice Murphy of Mountain City and Billie Jean Main and husband Colis of Trade; grandchildren, Angela Carico, Christopher McElyea, Johnny Johnson, Scotty Johnson and Jason Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four nieces; and many special friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Shannon Courtner officiating. 1863 Darrell Williams, 77, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Clarence C. and Josephine Ritchie Williams. Darrell was an Auto Body Detailer. He loved having muscles cars and going to the car show. He was of the Christian Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Harold Williams, and a great-nephew, Billy “Peanut” Hilton. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Forbes Williams; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell Wayne and Donna Williams; a grandson, Chris Whitehead; his brother and his wife, Clarence E. Bonnie Mae Carver Brookshire, 100, of Mountain City, Tenn., died March 11, 2013. She was born on Oct. 15, 1912.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Stacy Brookshire, daughter, Janet Sue Brookshire, daughter-in-law, Myrtle Brookshire; and a son-in-law, Wallace Garrick.

She worked for the Johnson County School Board before moving to Miami, Fla. where she worked for 20 years for the Dade County School Board. Bonnie enjoyed working outside in her flower and vegetable gardens, canning and cooking. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Jonelle Teague Canter, age 64, of 1054 Horse Bottom Road, Banner Elk, died May 28, 2016, at home. She was born September 1, 1951 in Watauga County. She was a homemaker.

Jonelle is survived by three sons, David Strader and wife Melissa of Gastonia, Jody Teague and Jason Teague, both of Banner Elk; one daughter, Melissa Staley and husband William of West Jefferson; one brother, Glenn Teague, Jr. and wife Shirley of Zionville; one niece, Shannon Carrier and husband Chad of Sugar Grove; one nephew, Bryan Teague of Wilmington, NC, and special friends, Becky of West Jefferson, and Chris and Vickie Miller of Roan Mountain, TN. She is also survived by a number of step-children.

Mary Shull Moody, age 87, of 540 Calloway Road, Boone, the Foscoe Community, died January 20,2017 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Mary grew up in Valle Crucis, NC on the Shull Farm. Mary graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College. She married Charles Ray Moody and moved to Maryland. She retired from teaching and moved back to Foscoe in 1987. Mary and Ray adopted their niece, Juanita, and helped raise their three nephews Don, John and Paul.

She is survived by one (adopted) daughter, Juanita Moody Keehn and husband Terrence of Dunkirk, Maryland, two granddaughters, Brittney Schade of Dunkirk, Maryland and Casey Begley and husband Mat of Lusby, Maryland, one grandson, Kyle Schade of Dunkirk, Maryland, two nephews, Donald Moody and Carolyn of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and John Moody of Bend, Oregon, two great-granddaughters, Ayvah Begley and Kennedy Begley both of Lusby, Maryland, one great-grandson, Adam Foster of Dunkirk, Maryland and one sister, Jeanne Shull Church and husband James of Oxon Hill, Maryland.

She married Henry M. Martin Jr. in Athens, Ala., on Feb. 2, 1946. They were married for more than 57 years. She was a high school graduate and completed two years of business school. She worked on the atomic bomb at Oak Ridge, TN. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Henry M. Martin, Jr.; a son, Milton (Susie) Martin of Fresno, CA; a daughter, Becky (Tom) Shaver of Tiffin; a brother, Edmund (Hazel) Farthing of Sugar Grove, NC; three sisters, Alpha Perry of Mebane, NC, Lennis Efstation of Burnsville, NC, and Jodie (Oran) Dugger of Burnsville, NC; four grandchildren, Cliff Adams, Jenny Citty, Blaine Martin and Matt Shaver; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Adams, Jimmy Citty and Kizzie Citty.

Ann is survived by her son, Jimmy Trivette of Elk Park; five grandchildren, Nathan Trivette, Jake Trivette, Matthew Trivette, Luke Trivette and Sommer Trivette, and two great-grandchildren, Candace Trivette and Tatum Cook, all of Elk Park; and two sisters, Nola Trivett of Chattanooga, TN and Mary Jane Hart of Jonesborough, TN.
