1151 Betty Lou Stout Cornett, 84 (Mimi to family and close friends), of Southern Pines, North Carolina, passed away on November 17, 2017 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mimi was born January 19, 1933 in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late B.C. and Donnie Stout. She truly loved her family, and especially her great grandchildren. She always loved doing things for others and never wanted anything in return for herself; she enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose Cornett, and one sister, Mary Lee Vaughn.
She is survived by two children, Kathryn Cornett-Ulrich (Harry) and Sandra Corbetto-Cornett (Eduardo); four grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Bower, Giovanni Corbetto and Chiara Cates (Corbetto); in addition, she is survived by five great grandchildren, Jackson, Kairi, Sebastian, Nicolas and Micaela. She is also survived by beloved brothers Fred, Jack, and B.C. Stout and their children.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 3:00PM at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.

1152 Betty Lou “Mousie” Waters, age 71, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with her Savior, her husband and her son on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. Betty was born in Elizabethton to the late George Thomas Birchfield and Polly Jane Presnell Birchfield. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, whom she had missed dearly, Howard Waters; and her beloved son, Howard Waters, Jr.

Betty was a feisty lady who loved her family and her Lord fiercely. She never backed down from hard work and never failed to give you a smile when she saw you. Betty loved to craft and was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed by many!

Those left to cherish Betty’s many wonderful memories include her children, Lisa Price and husband Daniel, Ben Waters and wife Elizabeth and Rebecca Williams; her sister and brothers: Regina Grindstaff, Tommy Coffee and Jimmy Anderson; her grandchildren: Michael and Tiffany Price, Samantha and William Pratt, Benjamin and Pennie Waters, Gracie and John Kline, Domnick Bethel, Bryant O’Bannon, Candance Waters, Elijah Waters, Troy and Candace Williams and Shelby Williams; her great children: Nathaniel Price, Christopher Price, A.J. Price and Nic Price, Kamren Waters, Summer Waters, Ashton Waters, Brinley Waters, Zaiden Waters, Sarah Waters, Sierra Waters and Jaxton Kline; several nieces, nephews and a special family friend, Raymond Williams, also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Betty Lou “Mousie” Waters will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Frank Osborne officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Marty Meadows. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 24, 2021, in the Stout Cemetery on Buck Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Troy Williams, Michael Price, Elijah Waters, Benjamin Waters, Domnick Bethel and John Kline.

1153 Betty McGlamery, age 83, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at her home. She was born on January 23, 1935, in Mountain City, TN, Johnson County, to the late Clarence Phillippi and Dora Rankins Phillippi. In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl McGlamery; and two brothers, Jack Phillippi and Jerry Phillippi.

Betty enjoyed traveling, camping, collecting porcelain dolls and quilting. She worked at Levi Strauss factory and many knew her from Hardee's where she worked for approx. 18 years. Betty liked spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Debbie Dunn and husband Larry; grandchildren, Tequila Osborne, Joey Icenhour and husband Chris and Eddie Morefield and wife Michelle; great grandchildren, Lindsey Osborne, Kayleigh Arnold, Chloe Arnold, Thomas Icenhour, Carson Icenhour, Brandon Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Maddison Johnson and Matthew Johnson; aunt, Peggy Sisler of Maryland; sisters-in laws, Cloyce Eller, Margie Phillippi, Ella Burton, Linda Sprouse, Jayne Pardue and Arlene Lewis; brother-in-law, Cecil McGlamery; special friends, Jean Cooper and Jana Lee Thomas, several nieces, nephews, cousins and Betty's extended family.

1154 Betty Murphy, age 84, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born on June 8, 1938 to the late Clyde and Mary Jane Taylor. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Forrester and brother, Jack Taylor.

Betty and her husband Bill owned and operated Lakeview Family Campground for many years and made lifelong friends and memories that will not soon be forgotten. She enjoyed being outside and especially loved to watch ‘her’ birds. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Betty is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill Murphy; granddaughters, Amy Dickens and husband Johnny, and Kristi Forrester; great grandchildren, Mitchell Johnson, Shane Perkins, Shawn Perkins, Kylie Morefield, Colten Grindstaff, Brayden Dickens, and Macie Morefield; sister, Linda Simcox; brother, Danny Taylor; son in law, Donnie Warren and many special friends from their campground.

A private graveside service will be held later.

1155 Betty Phillips, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born on October 17, 1934 to the late George Dunn and Stella Riddle Dunn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Sexton; brothers, Orville Dunn, Paul Dunn, George Dunn Jr., Earl Dunn, and grandson, Zach Hill.

Betty loved the Lord and was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She loved her family and never met a stranger.

1156 Betty Renfro, 85, of Fordtown Road, died Monday, December 19, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family after an extended illness. Born in Old Butler, TN, February 26, 1937, she was a graduate of Jonesboro High School and attended ETSU College of Nursing. Betty was the 1954 Bean Queen of Johnson County and was a homemaker. She had been a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church since 1963. Betty was a longtime volunteer for Reach To Recovery. She assisted her husband as office manager for many years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Fred Renfro; sister, Norma Durham and husband Bill; brother, Edwin Dugger; parents, Blanche and L.D. Dugger; brother-in-law, Howard Courtner.

Betty is survived by her husband, Dr. C.A. “Pete” Renfro; two daughters, Mitzi Thompson and husband James of Charlottesville, VA, Sandra Edwards and husband Ben of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Ashley Danehy and husband Michael, Joey Edwards and wife Kelsei, Katie Edwards and fiancé Aaron Austin; great-grandson, William Danehy; sister, Martha Courtner of Johnson City; sister-in-law, Randa Dugger of Johnson City; nieces, Donna, Amy, and Amber; and nephew, Eric.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. David Randolph officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ben Edwards, James Thompson, Joey Edwards, Eric Durham, Michael Danehy and Aaron Austin.

1157 Betty Ruth Lipford Woodard Teague passed away at her home on Monday, January 22, 2018. She was born November 29, 1930 in Johnson County, TN. Betty was the daughter of Beverly Lipford and Viria Arnold Lipford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: two sisters, Dorothy Riddle and Hazel Powers; five brothers, Claude Lipford, Fred Lipford, Dennis Lipford, Dana Lipford and Arliss Lipford. She loved gardening and flowers.

Betty is survived by her children: Gene Woodard and wife Carol, Hampton, TN, Dana Woodard, Mountain City, TN, Brenda Preece, Creston, NC, Linda Morris, Mountain City, TN, Cathy Woodard, Fort Myers, FL, and Jeffery Woodard and wife Shirley, Mountain City, TN. Eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Betty will be conducted on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 8:00 pm in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux & Lipford Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Services will be conducted by Bishop Trent Spalding.

Interment will be on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Price & Lipford Family Cemetery.

1158 Betty Ruth McQueen Vaughn, age 74, of Greeneville, formerly of Elizabethton, stepped into Heaven on Monday, September 18, 2017 at her home place in Elizabethton. Betty was born in Carter County on March 13, 1943 to the late Harry E. and Ollie M. Caudill McQueen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ray Vaughn in 2007; and a grandson, Matthew Vaughn Wills, in 2015.

Betty retired from Phillips Consumer Electronics and was of the Baptist faith. She was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School, was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose, and a former member of Youth Builders of Greeneville. She enjoyed flower gardening, ceramics, interior design and decorating, and caring for her pets.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kimberly Vaughn Russell and husband Rick, of Greeneville; two sisters, Shirley Rambo, and Mary Davis and her husband Merrill, all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Kyle McQueen, of Elizabethton and Samuel Lee McQueen and wife Helen, of Poplar, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Betty Ruth McQueen will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Roger Crigger, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday; or at her home place at any time.

1159 Betty Ruth Treadway Tester, age 89, formerly of the Embreeville community, went home to her eternal reward on Monday, November 18, 2019 at her home at Governor's Bend Assisted Living Facility surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a humble servant of God, and she lived her life in preparation and anticipation of this day.

She was born on November 1, 1930 in Washington County, Tennessee and was a 1948 graduate of Lamar High School. She, along with her best friend Betty Ann Storey, were the only two remaining charter members of the Embreeville Church of Christ, where she served her Lord faithfully for over 70 years. In addition to caring for her family, she was a former employee of Hoover Ball & Bearing Company in Erwin. She also provided care for several extended family members in her home.

She was a lifetime member of both the Order of the Eastern Star Unicoi / Erwin chapter #276 and the Lamar Ruritan Club.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Sherrill Treadway; her mother, Fern Miller Treadway; her husband of 57 years, Carroll Tester; an infant son, Richard Stephen Tester; her sisters, Madeline Deaton and Lois Keplinger; and her brother Clyde Keplinger.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Tester and wife, Star, of Jonesborough, and Pat Tester and wife, Angie, of Telford; three grandchildren, Robert Tester and wife, Whitney, of Johnson City, and Kaylee Tester and Connor Tester of Telford; a nephew, Terry Deaton, and several extended family members, neighbors, and friends. She had a special bond with her Lamar high school basketball teammates, Betty Ann Storey, Peggy Cloyd, Roxie Lowe, Isabel Slonaker, and Gertrude Johnson, with whom she shared a monthly lunch (and many laughs) for numerous years.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 22, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Embreeville Church of Christ, 4343 Highway 81 South, Erwin, Tennessee. The funeral service will be held at the church at approximately 8:00 PM (or upon the conclusion of the visitation) with Kevin Holley, Scott Phillips, and Charles Fitzsimmons officiating. The graveside service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 10:00 AM at the New Victory Baptist Church Cemetery, 527 Conklin Road, Jonesborough, Tennessee.

Active pallbearers will be Earl Beals, Rick Broyles, Jeff Lane, Ronnie Mullins, Jim Peterson, Jack Phillips, Richard Storey, Terry Tittle, and Vaughn Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School class and special friends, J. J. Casey and David Yates.

Thanks to the many family members and friends who have been so caring and giving during this difficult time. A special thanks for their outstanding and loving care to the past and present staff of Governor's Bend Assisted Living Facility (where she had lived for the past seven years) and the staff of Amedisys Hospice.

1160 Betty Vance Benton of Hickory, North Carolina passed away at the age of 88 on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

She was survived by her children: Evelyn Champion (Rusty) of Hickory, NC, Susan Benton Wilson (Gene) of Charlotte, NC, Elaine Tucker of Hickory, NC and Clarence Benton II of Conover, NC; her brothers, John Vance of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Kenneth Vance of Lenoir, NC; and sisters, Carolyn Vance of Hickory, NC and Barbara Vance of Morganton, NC. She has four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mae Vance; her father, Dempse Vance; sisters, Katherine Stewart and Elizabeth Libera; brothers, Willis Vance and Sammy Vance; and infant, Claude Dempsey Benton.

Betty was born on July 12, 1933 in Altamont, NC. She graduated from Crossnore High School in the class of 1951. She obtained her nursing degree from Grace Hospital in Morganton, NC in 1954 and became a Registered Nurse. She worked at Hickory Memorial Hospital until Catawba Valley Medical Center opened and worked at Catawba Valley Medical Center for 28 years until her retirement. She was a member of Business and Professional Women for many years.

She was a strong, independent woman. She was devoted to her large extended family and enjoyed taking care of everyone around her. She touched more lives through her many years of nursing than any us will ever truly know.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels and Grace Village Assisted Living and Memory Care for their support.

The family received friends Saturday, June 25 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home. The funeral service followed at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernie Richards officiating. Burial followed at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC.

1161 Bettye Usher DeLoach, 88, of Wauchula, went to her eternal home with the Lord on Friday, December 20, 2013.
Born on February 18, 1925, in Miami, she was the daughter of Robert Moody Usher and Locia Lowery Usher. After graduating from Miami High School in 1942, she received a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1946 from Florida State University (then Florida State College for Women) in Tallahassee. Upon graduation, she worked with the Florida Welfare Department in Miami.
In March of 1951, she married Charles H. DeLoach in Miami, then the couple moved to Jacksonville where her husband was employed with Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. She continued her employment there with the Florida Welfare Department. She and her husband remained in Jacksonville for nine years, during which time their son and three daughters were born.
They subsequently lived in Atlanta, GA., ( where she worked for the American Red Cross ); Pittsburgh, PA, ( where she attended the graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh ); St. Petersburg, Fl. ( where she was again employed with the Florida Welfare Department, handling child adoptions and also with the Florida Children's Home Society in charge of foster care ); and Chicago, ILL. ( where she was employed as Personnel Director for Lord & Taylor Department Store ).
Upon their retirement in June 1987, the couple returned to St. Petersburg for 15 years before moving to Wauchula in 2004.
In their retirement years, she and her husband traveled extensively with Friendship Force International to England, Scotland, Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, New Zealand, Austrailia, Japan and Thailand. They have also visited in most of the United States.
She was an ordained deacon in the United Church of Christ, an ordained Stephen minister and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Wauchula, The Wauchula Wednesday Musicale, P.E.O. Sisterhood and an honorable member of the Florida Suncoast Chapter of Friendship Force International.
She was predeceased by her twin sister, Bobbye Kelly, and two older sisters,Louise Dole and Lillie Drake.
Survivors are her loving husband of 62 years, Charles H. DeLoach of Wauchula; four children: daughter, Debbie Abraham and husband Larry of Boca Raton; son, Robert DeLoach and wife Pam of Charlotte, NC; former daughter-in-law, Nancy DeLoach of Cuthbert, GA; and daughters Kathy Chapman and husband John of Jacksonville and Barbara Hand and husband Jamie of Wauchula. She is also survived by one sister, Nancy Turner of Westminister, CA.; eight grandchildren, Breena Schermerhorn and husband Dave of Black Mountain, NC; Micheal DeLoach and wife Lauren of Tampa; Tucker DeLoach of Charlotte, NC; Ashley Chapman of Bradenton; Parker Chapman of Gainesville; Sarah Chapman Farris and husband Emmett of Tampa; Keith Abraham of Boca Raton, Karen Abraham Bahn and husband Brian of Boca Raton; two great-granddaughters, Scout and Cass Schermerhorn, both of Black Mountain, NC; and one step-granddaughter, Tylena Revels; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At her request, a private family Celebration of Life was held at the DeLoach home on Monday, Dec. 23.

1162 Beulah Dean Hughes, 99, Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Savior on Friday, February 7, 2020, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born May 4, 1920 to the late Weaver and Ethel Holtsclaw, her stepmom, Nettie Edney Holtsclaw. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jake Hughes; her loving son, Wade (Virgie) Hughes; her brothers, Conley, Voyd, Dana, Carmel and Orville Holtsclaw; and her sisters, Vernie Hughes, Renelee Whitehead and Norma Rea Birchfield.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Margaret (Wayne) Heaton; her son, Gary (Peggy) Hughes, Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Wendell (Karen) Heaton, Gray, and Natasha Ann Hughes of Colorado; a very special sister, Onza Johnson, age 103, (they shared their home together recently at Waters of Roan Highlands); and many nieces and nephews.
Beulah enjoyed gardening, camping, watching golf and quilting. She was well known for her canning pickle beans, corn and kraut and making apple butter outside with her family. After her children were grown she worked at Cannon Memorial Hospital for 10 years.
Her home church was Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. She looked forward to church services at Roan Highlands. A special thank you for all the love and care given to her at Roan Highlands. Beulah loved the mountains and Cove Creek Community, Roan Mountain, where she lived all her life.
A graveside service (her wish) was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, February 10, in the Hughes Family Cemetery, Cove Creek Road, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Richard Blevins officiating. Pallbearers were family and friends. 
Holtsclaw, Beulah Dean (I79855)
 
1163 Beulah Green Burnette, age 94, of Crossville TN, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 in Crossville, TN. A native of Johnson City, she was a daughter of the late Royal Green and Ellen Jones Green.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burnette was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Howard Eldredge Burnette; sister, Eva Moody, Brothers, Fred and Lester Green; half-brothers, Brady and Burnett Green, and grandson, Thomas Emmanuel Burnette II.

Beulah was a people person and enjoyed life. She had a beautiful smile and beautiful eyes. She was very sweet but enjoyed teasing her three sons. She loved her dogs, myna birds and cockatiels. She named all her birds Sam. She loved crafts and won ribbons at the Appalachian Fair in Gray, TN. Beulah loved attending worship services and attending the Diana Singing in Diana, TN which is two days congregational acapella gospel singing. In September 2015 she received a trophy for being the oldest female singer. She enjoyed boating with her family and friends. Beulah looked forward to Christmas decorating and enjoyed traveling on cruises and going on RV trips. While on a RV trip she fulfilled a dream by getting to attend the Grand Old Opry. Beulah enjoyed attending family reunions. Family was important to Beulah which is why she moved back to Johnson City when she retired. She served her community by being a member of the Civil Air Patrol. She was “Rosie the Riveter” at the Charleston Ship Yards during World War 2. Technically she didn't rivet. She worked in the tool room. She worked at Western Union in Atlanta, GA following the war and was a bookkeeper at Commercial Credit in Covington, KY. Beulah owned the Chick N Treat Restaurant in Tifton, GA. She finished her career as a bookkeeper for Dobbs House Catering in San Antonio, TX.

Survivors include her three sons, Howard and wife, Kathy, Harry and wife, Frances, Tom and wife, Linette; Two grandchildren, Melanie, and husband Jack Bruner, Melissa, and husband Sam Baxter. Three great grandchildren; Abigail Bruner, Luke Baxter and Joshua Baxter and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 3, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the Sunset Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, 3001 Peoples Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.

A funeral service will be conducted at Washington County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, at 1:30 P.M Sunday, August 4 with Mr. Tim Hall, preacher for the Central church of Christ officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Jack Bruner, Sam Baxter, Luke Baxter, Joshua Baxter, Ricky Laws.

1164 Beulah Hardin Bowers, 96, of Elizabethton, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at home on July 2nd following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Sallie and George Butler Hardin and was born in Carter County on April 14, 1917. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Leslie Bowers; as well as brothers, Ottie Hardin, Luther Hardin and Cecil Hardin; and a sister, Dorothy Heaton; and a grandson, Lewis Bowers.
She is survived by a daughter, Sara, of Elizabethton; and a son, Steven, of Elizabethton and his wife, Jennifer. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Kaylee and Drew Bowers, of Elizabethton, and Matthew Bowers, of West Lafayette, Indiana. A large number of nieces and nephews also survive.
She will be remembered for her cheerful, positive attitude and her zest for life. She and her husband, Crawford, were the original owners of Bowers Florist in Elizabethton and as a florist she enjoyed providing floral services for the community for decades. She was a member of the Highland Arrangers Garden Club and was a lifetime member of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs.
Mrs. Bowers was a lifelong member of the Siam Baptist Church and was active in various capacities at the church over the years.
Beulah's other interests included cooking and entertaining her friends and family. She always had a smile and encouraging words for everyone. She found beauty in everything and always looked for the best in everyone.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her friends and caregivers: Jewel Blevins, Shellie Davis, Tabitha McGill, Evelyn Blevins, Jo Anne Smith, Jennifer Lunceford, Anita West and Denise Plank for their loving devotion, friendship and the gentle care they provided for her over the past years.
A Celebration Of Life Service for Mrs. Bowers will be conducted at 6:00 PM Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Siam Baptist Church in Elizabethton with the Reverend Jack Roddy officiating. Special Music by Susan Heaton.
The family will receive friends at the church from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM prior to the service and at her home at other times.
A sunset interment at the Nave Cemetery in Siam will occur after the service. 1165 Beulah Harrison James Wiseman, 91, 114 Lynnview Circle, Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away peacefully Sunday, April 10, 2022, at The Waters Nursing Home.
Beulah was born in Shell Creek, Tenn., to the late William and Mary Harrison. Beulah was a member of Shell Creek First Christian Church. She also attended Valley Forge Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, Beulah was preceded in death by her first husband, John James, of 25 years; her second husband, Lloyd Wiseman, of 25 years; her son, Timothy John James; her brothers, Dan Harrison, Roy Harrison and Max Harrison; her sisters, Alma Bass and Elsie McKinney; and her dear friend, Faye Grindstaff Shelton, whom she considered a sister.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Lea James; her grandchildren, Coleman James, Harley Hasker Davidson and Maggie Erin James; and many nieces and nephews.
A very special thank you to her nephew, Kevin Crowe, for the many visits and the love he showed.
The funeral service for Beulah will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Larry Vaughan officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

1166 Beulah Ivalee Finney Richardson, 98, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Andrew and Floria Hatley Finney.
Mrs. Richardson attended Watauga Academy where she played on the girls' basketball team. She was a homemaker and loved to work in her flowers. She was the oldest living member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Roy L. Richardson, who died September 22, 2013; two brothers, Phillip and Robert C. Finney; and two sisters, Georgia Mae Taylor and Minnie Bell.
Survivors include her children, Bobby Richardson and Patsy Williams, of the home, James and Judy Richardson and Pamela and Lee Martin; her grandchildren, Donald Leslie Richardson, Dena Laws, Candy Shelton, Charice Richardson-Arnold and Christopher Richardson; her great-grandchildren, Stephen, Lucas and McKenna; one great-great-granddaughter, Jordan Hilman; two sisters, Martha Poole and Ora Belle "Jo" Burchett; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Richardson will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 13, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. James Richardson and Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Music will be provided by Greater Glory. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 14, in the Garland Cemetery. 1167 Beulah Jane Puckett, 87, of Montezuma, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.

She was born on March 20, 1934 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Frank R. Ware and Myrtle Braswell Ware. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Neal Lane; and brother, Jackie French.

Beulah was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was fully involved every Sunday and was the Adult Sunday School Teacher. Beulah started her own craft company, Country Craft Creations, and employed up to 50 women that worked for at one time for 40 plus years. She was a CNA after she retired from her company and her and her husband ran a produce stand in Montezuma. Beulah enjoyed meeting new people and cooking. She loved spending time with her family. Beulah was extremely artistic and enjoyed canning goods.


Beulah leaves behind to cherish her memory husband, John Puckett; two daughters, Debbie L (Buddy) Winebarger of Montezuma, NC and Shanna Haymore of UT; son, Shane (Maria) Haymore of Montezuma, NC; sister, Paula (Edd) Buchanan of Black Mountain, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Winebarger, Nicki (James) Hastings, Jacob (Zea) Lane, Rebekah Haymore, Maddy Haymore; great grandchildren, Leah Brabham, Chase Downing, Avram Hastings, Liora Hastings, and Elliot Lane; four step daughters, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Beulah Jane Puckett will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Reins-Sturdivant funeral home in Newland, with Scott Jenson officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

A native of Butler, she was a daughter of the late Archiebald and Latitia Sluder Lipford. She was a retired employee of Timberland Boot Manufacturing Company, Mountain City. Beulah loved her family, loved to quilt and work in her garden. She was a member of the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church and the Sanctuary Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Haskiel Reece Kyte, August 21, 2001; by three brothers: Jess, Homer and Fred Lipford; Two Sisters: Cassie Green and Mae Deloach; and by three infant brothers and three infant sisters. Survivors include her children: Barbara Kyte "B.K." McCloud and her husband, Jim, Oxford, North Carolina, Garry G. Kyte and wife, Barbara, Butler, and Nyoka Kyte Weaver and her husband, Melvin, Butler; One Grandson: Alan Todd Kyte; Several Nieces & Nephews. 1169 Beulah ‘Boo Boo’ Wiseman Carpenter, 91, of Little Buck Hill Road in Newland, N.C., the Three Mile community, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 11, 1929 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Sadie Aldridge Wiseman.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Carpenter, who passed away in 2006. Also preceding her in death was her son, Ned Carpenter; her sisters, Isabelle Ballew, Susie Wiseman, Evelyn Phillips and an infant sister; her brothers, Joe, Ralph, Robert, Mack, and Jesse Tom Wiseman.

Prior to her death, Beulah was the oldest living member of Walnut Grove Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her garden and flowers, sewing, and was a bee keeper.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Lela Rhyne and husband, Charles of Newland; her sons, Bobby Carpenter and wife, Mary and Kent Carpenter all of Newland; her grandchildren, Jeff Carpenter and wife, Laura, Robin Harmon and husband, Jamie, Michelle Vines and husband, Greg, and Matthew Rhyne and wife, Shasta; nine great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; her sisters, Betty Thomas and husband, Phil of Bandana and Emma Boone and husband, Paul of Newland; and special friends, Betty Weathers, Peggy Buchanan, Mary Sue Garland, Joe Lipps, and Charles Clark.

1170 Beuna 'Sis' Hawks, age 95, of Mountain City, Tennessee and formerly of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born on September 14, 1922 to the late Ed and Bertha Robinson Rainbolt. In addition to her parents, Beuna was preceded in death by her husband Coy Hawks; sisters and brothers-in-law: Grace and Chester 'Tilley' Stout and Mae and Stoney Grindstaff and brother and sister-in-law, Park and Pat Rainbolt.

Sis worked for Al Beverly as Bookkeeper and Secretary for many years for his bean business in Florida. Before she was affected with Alzheimer's, Sis loved going to church at Little Doe and First Baptist. She loved to travel the United States.

Those left to cherish her memories include her nieces and nephews who she thought of as her own children: Hilda Stout, Mona Stout, Gary Hilton and Amy Grindstaff Miller; great niece, Tori Stout; great nephew, Eric Stout; one great-great niece and two great-great nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park.

1171 Beverly Ann Moody Britton, 79, of Spring Hill, formerly of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, from complications of a heart attack.

She was the daughter of Paul and Garnett Moody, born to them on July 26th, 1941, in Steinman, Virginia.

Beverly was a 1959 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a wonderful Homemaker, Dental Assistant, Caterer and Volunteer to many schools, churches and hospitals. She was an active member at Wellspring Church in Spring Hill, for the past 3 years. Beverly was a member of First Christian Church in Johnson City, for over 40 years, where she was a long-time member of the Win-A-Kuple Sunday School Class. Beverly was very active and had many hobbies. She loved to cook and volunteered and served as a hostess at First Christian Church for many years. As an avid fan of NASCAR, she and her late husband Tom spent many joyous years attending the trophy presentations in Winners Circle at the Bristol Motor Speedway with their great friends Linda Shull and her late husband, Ed. Additionally, Beverly worked as a hostess in the suites at the Bristol Motor Speedway. She also spent many years working at Chick-fil-A as a hostess. She volunteered for Kitchen of Hope in Kingsport, serving meals to the needy and homeless, as well as serving other outreach opportunities. Beverly was always ready to help anyone in need. She was a huge sports fan and loved Major League Baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. Beverly and Tom spent many family vacations attending baseball games.

In 2018 she relocated to the Nashville area to be closer to her children and grandchildren, which gave them great joy while they created great memories that they will cherish forever. For many years she has frequently enjoyed day trips, traveling and spending time with her great friends Ginger Ison, Carolyn Jeffers and Mike & Rebecca Jackson and family, as well as many other friends.

In addition to her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty years, Charles Thomas Britton, in 2014, and her brother-in-law Johnny Mac Britton.

Those left to cherish her memory include son Charles Thomas Britton ll (Chuck), of Franklin, TN, daughter Susan Michele Britton, of Smyrna, TN; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Scott Tester, Madison Ann and Kyle Thomas; three brothers, Paul Travis Moody and wife Patsy, Marvin Moody and wife Jill, Roswell Moody and wife Darlene; two brother-in-laws, Robert '' Bob '' Britton, William Michael Britton and wife Pam. Beverly is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and many special friends.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Beverly Ann Moody Britton will be held Monday April 5th, 2021, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Dr. Donald Mushayamunda, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends at 5:00 P.M. with the service following at 6:00 P.M.

The graveside committal service for Beverly will be Tuesday, April 6th, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

He was born in Elizabethton, Tenn. and lived most of his adult life in Big Stone Gap. He proudly served as a Petroleum Supply Specialist with the 101st Airborne Division of the U. S. Army. He was of Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Thomas “Charlie” Lovelace and Patricia Ann (Howington) Lovelace.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Tracie Wheatley Lovelace; three daughters, Karlee Lovelace, Kaylee Lovelace and Meghan Lovelace, all of the home; three brothers, Charles T. “Chuck” Lovelace, Christopher “Chris” Lovelace and Robert Lovelace, all of Kingsport, TN; two sisters, Triscilla Hill (Tony) of Lexington, N. C. and Trina Lovelace-Golden (Michael) of Lake Jackson, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

1175 Bill Birchfield, 79, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 19, 2021, from Johnson City Medical Center.
Bill was a native of Roan Mountain and a son of the late Frank Birchfield and Florence Elliott Birchfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Cindy H. Birchfield.
Bill earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Lees-McRae and East Tennessee State University. Bill’s teaching and coaching career spanned nearly three decades with time spent at Unaka High School and completed with 25 years at Cloudland High School. Bill enjoyed farming, going to livestock markets, and following the athletic careers of his sons and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eloise H. Birchfield, of the home; two sons, Randy Birchfield of Roan Mountain and Matt Birchfield and wife Kerri of Elizabethton; five grandchildren and two expected great-grandchildren, Colby Birchfield and wife Karmen, Conner Birchfield, Leah Birchfield, Kenzie Birchfield and Kendall Birchfield; and three brothers, Denton Birchfield, Dallas Birchfield and Rick Birchfield, all of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Bill Birchfield will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, and Pastor Rick Birchfield officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, in the Birchfield Cemetery. 1176 Bill E. Hampton, 87, of Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 26, 2023, after a lingering illness. He was the son of the late Dewey G and Beulah Kinley Hampton. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Dorothy Dykes Buckles; a sister, Ruth Street; by his very special friends of 60 plus years, A.J. and Peggy Harvey Street; and by Janane Finney, who was a special friend to Bill and Sharron. Bill was a homebuilder for over 50 years. He loved his chosen profession. He was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church and attended regularly until his health declined. His hobbies included water sports, he was an excellent water skier; he and Sharron always kept a pleasure boat their entire married life. He and his lake buddies built the first ski jump on Watauga Lake and Bill was the first to cross the ski jump successfully. He also loved drag racing and after their retirement, they enjoyed traveling including a trip to the Bahamas. Bill and Sharron were also members of the Johnson City Citizens Band Club, where Bill was voted member of the year and was instrumental in acquiring the land on which the building was constructed and the club was a very family oriented club house. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, the former Sharron Lynn Buckles Hampton, whom he met at the Johnson City Roller Skating Rink, when she was still in high school and was the love of his life. Also, his first cousin, whom he thought of as a sister and was always there for Bill and Sharron whenever she was needed, Vella Chambers Tester; and Kathy Clawson, who was always so dear to them and ready to help in any way she could. Two nieces, Carolyn Street Cannon and her husband James “Butch” Cannon and Kathern Greene and her husband Stanley Greene; and one nephew, Danny Street and his wife Teresa. A special thanks to Dr. Sarah Hammonds for her outstanding care shown to both Bill and Sharron, Amedysis Home Health Care, especially Megan, and Signature Health Care Center, especially Alex Keyes, members of Valley Forge Christian Church, neighbors and friends whom showed so much love, prayers and compassion to Bill during his illness and Sharron during this difficult time. 1177 Bill J. Greer age 84, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with his Lord on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was born on April 23, 1935 to the late Ben & Lorne Greer. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Margie Lewis Greer on January 28, 2018, and sister; Mary Sue Peck on August 17, 2019.

Bill was a deacon at First Freewill Baptist Church for over 20 years. Bill was also known for ringing the bell at First Freewill Baptist. He Loved collecting Carter family records, playing the guitar and Harmonica. He also loved gardening and really enjoyed being outside. Bill is loved and will be remembered by many.

Mr. Brumitt was a son of the late Samuel and Nancy Tolley Brumitt and was a life long resident of Unicoi County Tennessee.

He was employed with Unicoi County Gas Utility District before retiring in 1997 due to ill health, after 20 years of service.

Mr. Brumitt was preceded in death by; two brothers, Robert Hardin and Ernest Hardin; and two sisters. Vergie McLaughlin and Virginia Wren.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter and five sons.

1179 Bill R. "Billy Ray" Williams, 68, Johnson City, Tenn., died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Ray W. Williams and Lois Fannon Williams, and by a brother, James, all of Elizabethton.
He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended East Tennessee State University, studying computer science. While at ETSU, Mr. Williams was a member of the National Championship ROTC Band that, in 1966, performed in Lincoln Center's Philharmonic Hall.
Mr. Williams began his working career in the 1960s at WBEJ-AM radio in his hometown of Elizabethton, where he worked as board announcer for "Breakfast at The White House" with "Curly" White and later as station news director. He acquired the moniker "Mophead" there, and the nickname stuck when he moved to WJCW-AM in Gray, where he worked a daytime shift of news and music and hosted a night show.
In the mid-1970s, Mr. Williams moved to television, working as cameraman, reporter and weekend anchor at WJHL-TV in Johnson City.
Encouraged by friends and professors, in the later 1970s, Mr. Williams took a position at ETSU as a mainframe computer operator. His supervisor recognized Mr. Williams' attention to detail, his meticulous work ethic and his affinity for complex systems, and moved him from operations into systems programming in 1979. There, he worked nights, weekends and long days locked away, developing highly detailed code, first for the mainframe and then for a variety of Novell and UNIX servers related to networking and to bringing the Internet to ETSU.
With intelligence, adaptability and an affinity for computer technology and practical problem solving, Mr. Williams made the transitions from IBM mainframes to virtual machines and MVS to Linux. From 2001 to 2011, he worked for the university libraries, administering the systems that provided the Northeast Tennessee Libraries online catalog; online publishing of ETSU theses and dissertations; and access to electronic resources. He was instrumental in moving university library services into the digital age.
Mr. Williams retired in June 2011, after 32 years of service as a systems analyst at ETSU.
He enjoyed numerous pursuits outside the computer center or office, including the pursuit of good food and drink, and if he could not have them, he loved to talk about them or watch Food Network. Mr. Williams enjoyed puzzles of all sorts, was a Sudoku addict and loved Rube Goldberg contraptions.
He was also a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, Elizabethton, and of Mensa, the International High IQ Society.
One of Mr. Williams' numerous avocations was acting in and directing local community and regional theater, at Johnson City Community Theater, Jonesborough Repertory Theater, Elizabethton High School and The Olde West dinner theater. He is remembered for so many productions, including "Lion in Winter," "Carnival," "Guys & Dolls," "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "Wait Until Dark" and "Good Evening" — and many priceless portrayals, including General Bull Moose in "Lil Abner" and King Sextimus in "Once Upon a Mattress."
More than anything, though, Mr. Williams will be remembered as a stalwart friend, always ready with witticisms and wisdom, such as "I'm sure it will be one way or the other." He always will be "resplendent in his magnificence."

1180 Bill W. Gouge, age 87 of Hwy 226 Bakersville NC passed away October 15, 2007. He was the son of the late Lillington and Bessie Canipe Gouge and a native of Mitchell County, NC. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II, in the Pacific. He was a Member, Deacon, and Long Time Sunday School Teacher at Cub Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include; son, Royce Gouge and wife Debbie, of Clemmons, daughter, Karen Greene and husband Paul, of Bakersville, one sister, Daisey Harrell, of Virginia, brothers, Thomas Gouge, of Gray, TN, and Harry Gouge, of Johnson City, TN, three grandchildren, Mitzi Reed, and husband Bryan, Kevin Gouge, and wife Susan, and Nathan Greene, and wife Cindy, six Great Grandchildren, Haley McPeak, Garrett Greene, Pierce Greene, Anayla Weber, Aidan Reed, Lauren Gouge.
He was preceded in death by; wife, Beatrice Young Gouge, and daughter, Kathleen Garland.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 18th at 2:00PM in the chapel of Henline - Hughes Funeral Home with Billy Stewart officiating, The Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Malone Gouge Cemetery.

1181 Billie Naomi Greene, 89, of Lake City, Fla., went to her Heavenly home on April 1, 2022, at Suwannee Valley Care Center. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on December 28, 1932, to the late Vernon Riddle Cordell and Hazel Opal Matherly.
Billie grew up in a small east Tennessee community and graduated from Elizabethton High School. She was a beautiful woman from the inside out who accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her teens and lived a life that reflected her deep conviction to Him. She married the love of her life, Mack Greene, in June of 1952. They enjoyed an extraordinary life together traveling extensively with the National Park Service where Mack was employed many years. Perhaps her most incredible memory was having tea with Eleanor Roosevelt when they lived in Hyde Park, N.Y., but that’s hard to say as there were countless memories she shared throughout her sweet life.
Billie was a talented seamstress, and her handiwork was flawless. She was most passionate about her family; being a devoted wife and loving mother to her two children. She and Mack were married 35 years when he passed at the age of 62. Billie remained healthy and independent until her last days. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church in Ft. White and Fort White United Methodist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed attending church services to praise, worship, be filled and grow, along with spending precious time fellowshipping with her church family. Billie loved unconditionally and her legacy is that she was genuinely loved by everyone that knew her. Well done, faithful servant.
Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mack C. Greene Jr.; parents, Vernon “Pat” Cordell and Hazel MacLaren; her grandparents; and all her aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Billie’s Life will be held on Friday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at Fort White United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Brecheen officiating. A graveside service will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn., where she will be interred with her husband, Mack.

1182 Billie Ware “Nee Naw” Burleson, age 90, of Newland, NC, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at her daughter’s residence.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1929, in Mitchell County, NC, a daughter of the late William Wright Ware and the late Sara Estelle Griffin Ware. Billie was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and listening to the Swap Shop. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who truly loved her children, her “seven grandsons and Brooke” and her great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband: William Loren Burleson; and Daughter: Lynda Wise.

1183 Billy Darrell Isenhour, 90, died on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at Fair Haven Home in Bostic, NC.
Billy formerly lived in High Point, NC. Survivors are two children, Greg Isenhour (Nancy) of Shelby, NC, and Crystal Isenhour of Newland, NC, three grandchildren, Daniel Isenhour, Laura Isenhour, and Jason Wilson (Anna), and one great-grandchild, Jesse Ray Wilson. Also surviving is brother Marion James Isenhour, Jr. of High Point and former wife and mother of his children, Jane Isenhour of Spruce Pine. Billy was preceded in death by parents Marion James Isenhour, Sr. and Cordelia Bailey Isenhour as well as sisters Jean Embler (Bo) and Kit Jackson (Carl) and his second wife Joyce Isenhour.
Billy served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan. His career was spent in the furniture industry where he worked as a sales manager.
Mr. Isenhour was a member of Hayworth Wesleyan Church in High Point. He also served as a Gideon.
Graveside services were held at Floral Garden Park Cemetery located on 1730 English Road in High Point.

1184 Billy Edward Cole, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles L. & Ethel Shoun Cole and preceded in death by his brother: Hursel Cole. Billy was a graduate of Unaka class of 1958 and a graduate of East Tennessee State College with a degree in Engineering. He was a retired employee of General Shale as Project Engineer. After his retirement he especially enjoyed working on his farm with his cattle.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Linda Pleasant Cole. Three Daughters: Shelby Cole Rasnick & husband, Doug, Barbara Curtis & husband Scott and Christy Simerly and friend Rick Barker. One Granddaughter: Hannah Simerly Marshall & husband Caleb. Also very special nieces: Ann Caskey & husband Mick, Lois Propst & husband Kenneth and Charlene Rinehardt & husband Greg and three great nieces, Betsy, Jenna & Amy.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Jordan and Mr. Doug Rasnick officiating. Billy was born on May 27, 1957 in Johnson City, TN to the Annie Bennett Dugger and the late William Edward Dugger. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brother, David Dugger.

Billy loved to hunt, fish and being outdoors. Most of all he loved being with his grandkids. He was of the Baptist faith.

1187 Billy Gene "Buddy" Slemp, Sr., of Lexington, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. He was born on October 1, 1939 to the late McDonald Slemp and Ruby Perkins Slemp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Cole Slemp, and a sister, Linda Rupard.

Buddy was a sweet and loving man. He retired as a truck driver after driving for 47 years.

1188 Billy Gene Grace, Sr, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Bill was a man who loved his family and showed his love well by his hard work ethic. Bill worked many years for the City of Johnson City in the Waste Management Division, and upon retiring from the City, he went to work at the Johnson City Country Club in the Groundskeeping Division. Bill’s passion in life was lawn work and he loved every minute of it. He enjoyed his hours spent on his mower and tractor and took pride in his humble life. If you were lucky enough to catch him resting, he was most likely sitting on his front porch in a rocking chair or attending University of Tennessee athletic events. A man of few words, he showed his love by his kind acts of service and did whatever he could to help those he loved.

Bill is survived by: his wife, Earnestine, of 60 years; his daughters, Emori Barnes (Eric), Alvina Ketron (Jeff), and Suzanne Hunsinger (Todd); grandchildren, Angel, Jacque, Mindy, Erica, Erin, Jeffrey, Casey; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Noah, Emma, Blake, Jonathan, and Walker; sister, Kathleen Arnold; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by: his daughter, Janet; his only son, Billy Gene Grace, Jr; his parents, Howard and Oma Copas Grace; and several siblings.

1189 Billy Gene Pierce, 80, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Wise County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Charles and Barbara Baker Pierce. He was a 1949 Graduate of Appalachia High School, Appalachia, Virginia, and a 1958 graduate of East Tennessee State College with a degree in Chemistry and Math.

He moved with his family to Carter County in 1950. He had lived in Dublin, Virginia, for 31 years where he was employed by the Hercules Inc. of Radford, Virginia, in Management and Supervision. He served on the town Council of Dublin for 12 years where he had served as Vice Mayor.

Mr. Pierce was a Former Member and Deacon of the Dublin Baptist Church. He was a member of the Henry Clay Masonic Lodge #280 of Dublin. He was presently a member of the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Pierce served in the United States Navy during The Korean Conflict. He was a former Ham Operator in Virginia. He loved to play Golf, Fish and play his Guitar and sing.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Grace Ensor Pierce; A Daughter, Donna Pierce Scofield and her husband, Rev. Dr. Donald G. Scofield Jr., Rutherfordton, North Carolina; A Son: Steven G. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bill E. and Daisy Oxendine Johnson.
Bill’s occupation was auto repair. He was owner of Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. He loved cars and motorcycles. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Powell Johnson, who passed away October 13, 2021; a brother, Charlie Johnson; and his daughter-in-law, Carmelita Johnson.
Survivors include his sons, Jack and Johnny Johnson; six grandchildren, B.J. Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Dakota Johnson, Payton Johnson, Madelyn Johnson and Madison Johnson; two great-granddaughters, Lilly Bea Johnson and Birdy Jane Johnson; and one brother, Pete Johnson.

A native of Avery County, he was born April 30, 1930 a son of the late Warren Edward and Minnie Naomi Guy Turbyfill.

Billy served during the Korean Conflict for the U.S Army and retired from Broughton Hospital in Morganton.

He was a member of the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Along with his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his: wife, Gladys Lorraine Turbyfill; brother, Bob Turbyfill.

1192 Billy J. Woody, 83, of Ingalls community, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 30, 2022 after an extended illness.
A native of Avery County, he was the son of the late Greenville and Roberta Woody. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Vicky, his son Robert, “Bob,” four sisters, Mable Wiseman, Virginia Curtis, Louise Gouge and Shirley Fulbright; and a brother Robert Woody.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shelby “Jean” Love Woody of Ingalls; son, Rodney (Angie); grandson, Aaron Daniels (Feliesha) and great-grandson, Orion. In addition to his immediate family, Bill is survived by his four brothers, Lawrence “Wes,” Scott (Vivian), Casey (Betty) and Tylie (Sandy); brother-in-law, Finley Love, Jr. and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was a skilled mechanic and business owner in our community with an outgoing personality and infectious laugh that drew all people young and old to the “garage” on the corner, making it the hub of the community for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking as well as spending time telling stories with family.
Bill served honorably in the United States Navy and was an honorary “Golden Shellback”. A Shellback is a sailor who on official duty “crosses the line” of the equator. A “Golden Shellback” is more impressive; it means Bill also crossed the International Date Line.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses of Autumn Care Rehabilitation Center of Marion, NC for caring for Bill and for their kindness to the family during this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held at Whites Memorial Baptist Church in Ingalls at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Pastor Timothy C. Rupard will officiate.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the memorial service following at 2 p.m. with Military Honors conducted by the VFW Pat Ray Post 4286 in Newland.

1193 Billy Joe Bowling, 82, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016, from a lengthy illness. Joe was the son of the late Herman and Mary Bowling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Bowling, and a brother, Sonny Bowling.
Joe attended Englewood Christian Church. He retired from the Elizabethton Star Newspaper where he served many years as the sports editor.
In addition to being sports editor, Joe had served as a newspaper carrier, a photographer, reporter, and a brief stint from 1979 to 1982 as editor of the Elizabethton Star. He was well-known in the community, having served as Director of the Carter County Boys Club and as a director of the Elizabethton Housing Authority board. He was an avid Elizabethton Cyclones fan. Joe graduated from Elizabethton High School, where he played football.
In 2012 he was named to the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame for his 40-years plus as a sports writer.
He was also a supporter of the Elizabethton Parks and Rec boxing program during years past. Joe coached many ball teams from Little League to Boys Club teams.
Joe is survived by three sons, Mike Bowling and wife Lisa of Indianapolis, Mark Bowling and wife Christine of Kingsport, and Matt Bowling and wife Sarah of Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Joe Bowling and wife Mary, Josh Bowling and wife Amanda, Jake Bowling and wife Kendra, and Jordan Bowling, all of Indianapolis, Chris Bowling and wife Krissy of Elizabethton, Craig Bowling of Elizabethton and Zoe Bowling of Kingsport. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Larry Bowling and Bob Bowling, and two sisters, Kathy Smith and Brenda Hawks, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
His family will gather in Indianapolis to celebrate his life and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Tennessee for family and friends

1194 Billy Joe Bradshaw Sr., 75, of Johnson City, died Saturday, September 9, 2006, at his residence.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late John Edward and Zella Jewell Osborne Bradshaw.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara A. Hodge Bradshaw, March 20, 2006, and an infant brother, Jimmy Bradshaw.

Mr. Bradshaw served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in 1950-1954.

He worked as a mechanic for Rainbo Bakery for 36 plus years.

Mr. Bradshaw was an avid fisherman and hunter and also a member of the Gamecock Club.

He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Debora Pate and Jessie Dean Pate Sr. and Sharon and Bruce Hall, all of Johnson City, and Lisa and Ronald Ragan of Gray; a son, Billy Joe Bradshaw Jr. of Johnson City; a sister, Jean Carolyn Johnson of Elk Hart, Ind.; six grandchildren, Jessie Dean Pate Jr., Heather Nunley, Andy Hall, Joshua Ragan, Marsha Bradshaw and Billie Bradshaw, and a step-grandchild, Joey Culbert; five great-grandchildren, Tempia Kate Nunley, Allison Rose Nunley, Emmalee Grace Nunley, Macie Nunley and Shannon LeAnn Bradshaw; and a special niece and nephew, Martha Shatley and Johnny Crowe Jr.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Bradshaw will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Rev. C.W. Snodgrass officiating and Martha Shatley delivering the eulogy. Music will be under the direction of The Dugger Family. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.

The committal and graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Morrison, Ronnie Miller, Johnny Crowe III, Joey Culbert, Bill Skeens and Mathew Hite.

1195 Billy Joe Constable went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2022. He had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and has gone home. Joe was born July 31, 1938, in Jonesborough, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rollie and Frankie Constable, one brother - Bob Constable, one son - Billy Joe Constable, Jr., and one granddaughter - Misty Diane White. He is survived by one daughter - Fern Hamilton (Jack), one grandson - Derek Hamilton (Bethany), and one great-grandson (Jaxon). He is also survived by one son - Greg Constable (Angie), and two granddaughters - Chelsea and Grace Constable. Also surviving is one brother - Roy Constable (Carolyn) and nephew Mike and niece Vickie and one sister - Ruby Sparks and nieces Kim and Frankie. As well as nephews David, Steve, and niece Cindy and their mother, Janet.
Joe worked at Burlington Industries for 43 years as well as farmed. He was a simple man that enjoyed walking down the lane to the woods and listening to the radio under a shade tree. He will be missed.
Per Joe's wishes, he will be cremated, and his ashes spread on the family home place - no public services or gatherings will be held.

1196 Billy Joe Gouge, 67, of Mount Holly, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018, surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born on February 4, 1951 in Carter County, the son of the late Howard Gouge and Opal Grindstaff Gouge.
Billy enjoyed fly fishing and tinkering with electronics.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Travis Gouge, and his brother, Norman Gouge.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Gouge; daughters, Aolani Gouge and Michelle Smith; stepson, Jeremi Walker and wife Stephanie; sister, Sharon Compton; and grandchildren, Natalie Smith, Mackenzie Walker and Madison Walker.

1197 Billy Joe “Bill” Shipley, 87, of Gray, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at his residence.
He was a native of Washington County and son of the late Mack and Ina Elizabeth Shipley.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his infant brother, Don Shipley, brother, Kenneth Shipley, of Boones Creek, and by his sister, Marie Thomas, Akron OH.
Bill was a lifelong resident of the Boones Creek Area.
He was a dairy and beef farmer, and plasterer for Jim Wiseman and Sons Lathing and Plastering Business, where he worked for 20 years.
He was a lifelong member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church.
He loved to work in his yard in his flowers, he enjoyed woodworking and was an excellent re-finisher of furniture.
Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Marjorie Wiseman Shipley, son, Jimmy E. Shipley and his wife Amy, grandson, Joey Shipley and girlfriend Sarah Ross, two granddaughters: Brittany Morelock (Dallas), and Taylor Ohman (Joey); three great-grandchildren: Carter Martin, Dawson Morelock, and Kennedy Morelock; brothers: Niles Shipley (Helen), Lawrence Shipley (Sybil); sister, Helen Sprinkle, several nieces and nephews whom he loved.
We would like to especially thank the caregivers who took such wonderful care of Bill. They are Sarah Caldwell, Pam Shephard, Shirley Dover, and Cathy Rogers. We would also like to thank the Hospice family and especially his nurse Sarah Beth Wright, and Angie Prevett who were so kind to him.

1198 Billy Ray Pardue died August 26th, 2019. He was born February 27, 1951 in Watauga County. Billy was an active member, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Antioch Baptist Church in Mountain City, TN. He honorably served four years in the US Air Force and seventeen years in the Army National Guard. Billy retired as a master diesel mechanic for Hollar & Greene Produce. A Christian gentleman, Billy loved his God, family and country. He considered his family his greatest gift and was a loved and respected husband, father and grandfather. He was the best 'PawPaw' to his grandchildren whom he referred to as 'the children God gave him.

Billy is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bitha Kirby Pardue; sons, Jason Pardue and wife, Teresa of Vilas and Jared Pardue of Zionville; daughter, Jessica Greene and husband, Jonathan, of Zionville; grandchildren, Colton and Cadence Greene, Isabella, Adalae and Samuel Pardue; brothers, R.C. Pardue and wife Pat and Danny Pardue, all of Zionville; and sisters, Margaret Grindstaff and husband, Danny, of Mountain City, Helen Pardue of Zionville, Patsy Courtner and husband, Jerry, of Mountain City, and Wanda Eldreth and husband, Bobby, of Todd. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ronnie and J.C. Pardue and sister-in-law, Francis Pardue.

Graveside services with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 130 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Zionville, NC.

1199 Billy Ray Rupard, age 73, of Banner Elk, NC passed away on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC.

He was born on March 11, 1946, in Banner Elk, NC, a son of the late Carter Preston Rupard and the late Gertrude Shook Rupard.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; his Wife of 40 years: Debra Jean Rupard; and 10 Brothers and Sisters.

Billy was a member of White Rock Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most importantly he enjoyed and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved listening to Southern Gospel music.

Billy leaves behind to cherish his memory his Daughter: Deana (Terry) Coleman of Newland, NC; Son: Charles (Kristi) Rupard of Banner Elk, NC; Daughter: Mindy (Tony) Hicks of Lafayette, Ind.; Grandson: Cody Minton of Naples, Fla., Grandson: Jacob Hicks of Banner Elk, NC; Grandson: Anthony Hicks of Newland, NC; Sister: Shirley Brown of Morganton, NC; Brother: Jerry (Ollie) Ruppard of Banner Elk, NC; Special Friend: Dale Townsend of Banner Elk, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Billy Ray Rupard will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at White Rock Baptist Church with Pastor Lynn Shook officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at White Rock Baptist Church. Interment will follow in White Rock Cemetery.

The Family of Billy would like to offer a special thank-you to the nurses and staff of 3-West at Watauga Medical Center for their wonderful care they gave to Billy.

1200 Billy Wallace Horne, age 84, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Mountain City Care Center. He was born on January 16, 1933 to the late Worley and Belle Icenhour Horne. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Horne; sisters: Ruby Horne, Ruth Horne and Emma Pope Walton; brother, Lynnville Horne.

Billy loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and loved squirrel hunting and his dogs. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes. He enjoyed music, especially Bluegrass and was a gifted fiddle player. Like most men of his generation, Billy was a proud farmer and also worked at sawmills throughout his life.

Eva was the love of his life. His goal in life was to spread the Gospel so people could go to heaven. He loved his family and friends and would do anything to help anyone out. He was also a funny man and enjoyed joking around and having fun.

Billy was a Korean War Veteran and honorably served in the United States Army.

He was a member and Deacon of Doe Valley Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his sisters: Juanita Tester and Betty Canter; brothers: Daniel Horne, Robert Horne and wife Linda and Richard Horne and wife Sally; brother-in-law, Johnny Roberts and wife Ilene; sisters-in-law, Lois Wilson and Peggy Hawkins; several nieces and nephews who were very close to him and loved him dearly and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Daniel Jones, J.C. Greene and Barry Dunn officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the JC Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers are Michael Hodge, Carroll Canter, Larry Canter, Josh Lawley, Dustin Bunting, Jeffrey Wilcox and Robert Horne. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Tester, Dr. Whitlock, Dr. Griffith, Dr. Shine and Jim Bunting.
