Mrs. Essie L. Bagby of Linville Succumbs; Final Rites Saturday, by K.L. Haga

Mrs. Essie Loven Bagby, wife of Wesley M. Bagby of Linville died at her home Saturday evening at 7:40 P.M. She was the daughter of the late Ed S. Loven and Mrs. Myrtle Loven. She was 35 years of age and spent her childhood and young womanhood at her home in Linville.

She joined the Presbyterian church when she was 12 years old and was a faithful and worthy member. She attended Lees's McRae Institute, Flora McDonald and Davenport Colleges. After her marriage she became a member of the Southern Methodist church and was a great help in the church work with her husband.

During the six years resident in Savannah, Georgia, where her husband was Boy Scout Executive she was the efficient secretary of a large Sunday school class of ladies. She manifested great interest in young peoples work and revealed great faithfulness and patience in her work among them. She was a devoted and God-fearing mother. Her home was a home where prayer was held daily and her children were taught to pray and attend Sunday School.

Surviving are her husband and 3 children, Sibyl, Wesley and Edwin, her mother, Mrs. Ed. S. Loven, a brother, J.A. Loven, a sister Joyce, all of Linville and a sister Mrs. Hope Loven Pitman of Canton, Ohio.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church in Linville with Rev. D.W. Haga of the Methodist Church and Rev. K.L. Haga of the Montezuma Baptist Church in charge. Burial took place in the Montezuma cemetery with Ronald Hughes in charge. The church auditorium would not seat the large crowd present and the floral offerings were profuse.

1053 Avis Haire Colbert, wife of the late Russell D. Colbert, Jr., died January 13, 2020.

She was 89. Mrs. Colbert was born on January 29, 1930 in Jonesboro, Tennessee, the daughter of Courtney Haire and Flora Sherfey. Her sister was the late Emma Haire Smith.

She was employed by Piedmont Airlines for several years before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and travel. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Colbert Locker, her husband John, their two children, Ben and Abby, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Dawn Colbert Cimperman, her husband Ralph, and their three children, Tom, Megan, and Madison of Alpharetta, Georgia; her son, Scott Colbert, and his wife Anne.

She lived her last years near her daughter in Alpharetta, Georgia

1054 AVON PARK, FL - Warren G. Ollis, age 97, of Avon Park, FL went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. He was born in Roan Mountain, TN to the late Lafayette and Burneice Julian Ollis. Warren served in the Navy and was aboard the U.S.S Nicholson from 1941 to 1946 and later was employed by G.E in Cleveland, Ohio and retired in 1982 after 27 years. After he retired, he spent most of his winters in Florida. Warren was of the Christian faith and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Linesville, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Black and second wife, Charlcie Julian; brothers, Ford Ollis, Murell Ollis and Larry (Gene) Ollis, sister, Ella Mae Gibbs; son, Dallas Lane Ollis and step-son, Heirl Julian. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 13 years, Sally Balluff Ollis; son, Russell ( Laurel ) Ollis; sister, Wanda Helms (Wayne);step-children, Lahoma ( Doug ) Rohrer, Lavada ( Wayne ) McClellan, Bruce Balluff, Michael Balluff, Dana ( Brad ) Roae; grandchildren, Bobby Ollis, Janie Ollis, Warren ( Alyssia ) Ollis , Christy Ollis, Kelly Ollis; step-grandchildren, Sonja ( Tim ) Bell, Bart ( Amy ) Rohrer, Antoine ( Becky ) Junn, Charlcie Galasso, Melissa Julian, Rachael Roae, Bradley Roae and Gregory Roae; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, June Ollis and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Warren G. Ollis will be conducted at 12:00P.M. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Doug Rohrer officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of 10:00A.M. and 12:00P.M. prior to the service.

The graveside service and committal will be held following the service on Saturday at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Johnson City with Pastor Donald Julian. Active pallbearers are Russell Ollis, Bruce Balluff, Wayne McClellan, Christopher Ollis, Brian Helms and Neil Gibbs.

1055 Az Tolley, Jr., age 50, Johnson City, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He was a native of Washington County and the son of the late Az "Bud" Tolley Sr. and Helena Marshall Tolley.

Mr. Tolley was an electrician and a member of North Street Church of Jesus Christ. He had great faith in God and loved hunting and fishing and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Denise Tolley; two daughters, Heather Clark and husband Adam, Erwin, Renee Tolley, South lake Tahoe, CA; one sister, Debi Posadas and husband Ronnie Peters, Johnson City; two grandchildren, Keller and Cyrus Clark, Erwin; special aunts and uncles, Linda Light, George Kenneth Tolley, David Tolley, Mary Deal, Wanda Riddle and husband Henry, Ronnie Woodby and wife Trudy, Johnnie Woodby and wife Bonnie; special cousin and best friend Lonnie Clark, Jr.

The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 25, 2015, at North Street Church of Jesus Christ at 7 PM with Wayne Pruitt and George Hall officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 - 7 PM prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

The graveside committal service will be conducted on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at noon in Washington County Memory Gardens.

1057 BAKERSVILLE - Catherine Nannie Boone, 97, of the Lily Branch community, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Beatrice Fortner Conley, and wife of the late Charlie Boone. She and Charlie were married September 17, 1938. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Boone. She was a member of Lily Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Jim Boone of Bakersville; one daughter, Juanita Hamilton West of Chevy Chase, MD; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Monday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Rev. Steve Williams
officiated. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday in Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, 284 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine,

Catherine was previously married to Edgar Sherod Hamilton They were married on February 21, 1930 in Bakersville, N. C. Edgar was a bookkeeper. His father was William C. Hamilton from Palestine, Texas where Edgar was born. His mother's name was Thersa Henn and she was born in Georgia. Edgar died in Bakersville on April 24, 1937 and buried at Lilly Branch Cemetery on April 26, 1937

Thursday, Apr. 8, 2004 at Brian Center Healthcare in Spruce Pine.
She was the daughter of the late John and Hattie Greene Yelton,
and wife of Homer Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by a
step-daughter, two sisters, and five brothers.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Helen Smutz of Salina, KS; two
sisters, Mary Yelton and Martha Mosley, both of Bakersville; two
brothers, Vestal Yelton of Sykesville, MD, and Joyce Yelton of
Bakersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cloudland Baptist
Church. Revs. Danny Silvers and Glen Autrey officiated. Burial
followed in Hobson Cemetery.

1059 Bakersville - Georgia Viola Masters, 84, of Bakersville, died at her home Thursday, July 8, 2004, after a brief illness.
She was a daughter of the late Garrett and Mary Greene Garland. Mrs. Masters was a member of Berea Church of the Brethren, a devoted mother and loving wife to Frank Masters for 66 years.

Mrs. Masters is survived by her husband, Frank C. Masters; daughter, Barbara Masters Reid and husband, Ray, of Bakersville; three sons, Phillip and wife, Norma, Wilburn and wife, Pat, of Bakersville and Wayne and wife, Blanche, of Clear Springs, Md.; three sisters, Hazel Stevens of Bakersville, Fairy Mae Carver of Johnson City, Tenn., and Shirley Yelton of Finksburg, Md.; four brothers, Malone Garland of Bakersville, Cecil and Earnest Garland of Johnson City, Tenn., and Nattie Garland of Glen Rock, Pa.; four grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Nellie Yelton and one brother, Roy Garland.

The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home officiated by Clifford Willis, Ronnie Gouge and Cecil Garland.

Burial service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday in Garland Cemetery, Masters Drive, Bakersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burnie Masters; sons, Jack and Lloyd Masters; daughter, Mary Lou Bartley; grandson, David Michael Bartley; sisters, Hazel B. Conley and Haskell B. Johnson; and brothers, Wesley, Ralph, Elbert, Howard, and Clinton Brewer. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Lee and Lynn Taylor of Johnson City, Tenn., Billie Jo and Ernie Cross of Johnson City, Tenn., and Shelia and Bob Bullis of Bakersville; son, Charles B. 1061 BAKERSVILLE, NC - Kathleen (Aunt Kat) Garland, age 90, of Fork Mountain Rd., Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord March 12, 2021. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Charles W. and Mae Forbes Garland. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and also attended Big Rock Creek Baptist Church. She loved baking, canning, and quilting.

Survivors include: one daughter Sara Allen (Ron), of Bakersville, NC, one son Doug Garland (Ella), of Jonesborough, TN, one sister Helen Woody of Chapel Hill, NC, and two grandchildren Morgan and Erin Allen.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by; her husband Fletcher Garland, sisters: Charlene Gouge, Mary Belle Gouge, and Bobbie Garland, and one brother Brooks Garland.

A graveside service will be held Monday, March 15, 2021 at 11:00AM at Gouge Cemetery (Fork Mountain Rd), with Garland Honeycutt, Mike Garland, and Kevin Laws officiating.

1062 BAKERSVILLE, NC - Robert "Bobby" Lee Jenkins Jr, 71, of the Buladean Community, Bakersville, NC, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at his home. He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Martha Honeycutt Jenkins.

Bobby was a member of the St Paul Free Will Baptist Church, a former Mitchell County Commissioner for 12 years, a farmer, millwright, and the "acting mayor" of Buladean, NC. He was a former employee of Mason Dixon Trucking. His love for God and family was always first in his mind. He showed love for his friends and community by his many acts of kindness, his honesty and integrity.

Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara Honeycutt Jenkins; sons: Toby Lee Jenkins and wife Billie of Mill Springs, NC and Dr. Tim Douglas Jenkins and wife Katie of Johnson City, TN; brothers: Douglas Jenkins of Johnson City, Dr. Roger Jenkins of Knoxville, TN, Tony Jenkins, and Lester Jenkins of Bakersville, and half brother, Donald Jenkins of Maryland; 5 grandchildren: Madison, Lindsey of Mill Springs, and Ella Kate, Ethan and Eamon of Johnson City; second father, Jack Street of Bakersville.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 in the St Paul Free Will Baptist Church with Scotty Jenkins, Roger Laws, Jimmy Arrowood and Gordon Lewis officiating. 1063 BAKERSVILLE, NC - Ronald Burleson, age 74, of Bakersville, passed away, April 12th, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Howard and Mary Burleson of Buladean and his older brother Robert Burleson of Spruce Pine.

Ronald was kind and strong, he attended Roan Mountain Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing and skeet shooting and was happiest at Unaka Rod and Gun Club.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cynthia Burleson. They have a daughter, Elizabeth Allen, and her husband David Allen of Asheville. Ronald is also survived by two brothers: Larry Burleson of Buladean and Garry Burleson of Kingsport.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Henline Hughes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 with the funeral to follow. Pastor Russell McKinney will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Green Young Cemetery.

1066 Barbara "Bobbie" Bradshaw, 75, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, unexpectedly at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Jackson "Jack" and Gladys Marie Ball Bradshaw and was born in Elizabethton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard "Smokey Joe" Bradshaw; a nephew, Cecil Howard Bradshaw; and a special brother-in-law, Shelby E. Williams.
Ms. Bradshaw retired from the dietary department of Life Care Center of Elizabethton at the age of 74. She loved to read, listen to music and was interested in the UT Vols and Lady Vols sports teams. She enjoyed taking care of her nieces and nephews and was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Doris Lovelace and Linda Faye Williams, both of Elizabethton; a brother, Rev. Cecil D. "Nick" Bradshaw, Elizabethton; and a special niece, Therese Bradshaw, Elizabethton, with whom she made her home. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service for Barbara "Bobbie" Bradshaw will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 8, in the Highland Cemetery with Rev. Cecil D. "Nick" Bradshaw and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Ronnie Campbell. Active pallbearers will be John Bradshaw, Rob Bradshaw, Ben Broyles, Cody Hyder, Royce Gentry and Mark Garrison. 1067 Barbara Ann Trivett, age 83, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Bristol Reginal Medical Center. Barbara was born May 18, 1939 in Shouns, TN to the late Walter(Jug) and Martha Ellis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bob Trivett; sister, Jo Woods; brother in law, Charlie Woods, and nephew, Harold Woods.

Barbara loved her family and friends. Whenever you visited you had to eat. She always made sure of that. She loved her church and church family.

She was a member of Ackerson Creek Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Darrell Trivett and wife Patty; brother-in-law, Rod Trivett, special nephew who she loved like a son, Brad Woods and great niece, Marlena Townsend; special cousin, Lucille Woods and daughters Janice and Joan; friends who were like her sisters, Carolyn Baker and Cassie Church.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00pm on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Minister Freddie Arnold and Tom Reece to officiate. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jason Arnold, Justin Arnold, Bill Hammons, Robbie McCulloch, Edwin Stoltzfus, Carl Stout, Donald Snyder, and Larry Wilson. 1068 Barbara Earl Shull Simcox, age 79, went to be with the lord Monday, January 30, 2023 at Hillview Nursing home. Barbara was born on December 11, 1943, in Mountain City to the late Earl and Louise Shull. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Linda Brown, her two brothers Tom Shull and Terry Shull, her son-in-law Roby dunn, her ex-husband Jabin V (Ben) Simcox, and her precious caregiver Darlene Orndorff.

Before graduating from JCHS in 1961, She was very involved in school and was cheer captain. She continued to be close to her classmates until her death, planning her class reunions every year for more than 20 years. She was a huge Tennessee Vols Fan. It was always a family affair including KFC before the game! She attended many away games and bowl games in addition to her season tickets!


She began working at H&R Block in 1971 and bought the Mountain City franchise in 1977. She was everyone's "tax lady" and all her clients loved her. She took pride in helping her clients in any way she could professionally and personally. She retired after 45 years. Barbara also worked for the ASCS office on the tobacco market for over 30 years. Barbara was entrepreneur. She owned Starlight Video, G&H Coin Laundry, and Shull's Farm Corn maze with her son Michael. She raised tobacco, green pepper, and catnip over the years.

Barbara was extremely active in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She led the GA's and Acteens, sang in the choir, directed Bible School for 10 years, and directed all dramas the church produced during Christmas and Easter.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Michael Simcox and Celeste Simcox Dunn, her grandchildren Izzy Dunn and Sam Dunn (Hannah), and her great-grandchildren Jaxon and Sawyer Dunn. Her sister Pat Eller (Edgar), Nephews Steve Brown (Robin), Scotty Eller (Renee), Jim Shull, Mechelle Arney, Jonathan Shull (Danielle), and great nieces and nephews. Special friend, Jeanie Arnold her best friend since 5th grade.

1069 Barbara Faye Moody Shoun was born March 12, 1942 in Spruce Pine, NC to Della Cable Moody and George Moody. Barbara spent her early childhood in Heaton, NC until the sudden passing of her mother, Della, in 1955. At the tender age of 13, Barbara moved to Elizabethton and was adopted by her mother’s sister and husband Alma & Ben Cannon. Alma and Ben provided a loving Christian home to Barbara and her adopted brother, Ted Cannon on Hemlock Street.

Barbara graduated from Elizabethton High School, Class of 1959. She attending flight attendant school but quickly realized that jet set life was not for her. Like the words of a country song, in 1960 Barbara met the love of her life, Fred H. “Sonny” Shoun, of Stoney Creek, on a blind date at the Blue Circle, while sitting on the hood of a car, filing her nails with an Emory board. This handsome young Air Force veteran stole her heart and they eloped 6 weeks later.

In 1961 Barbara and Sonny welcomed their daughter, Anne and in 1965 their son, Gene. As a family, the Shoun’s enjoyed life to the fullest with an open door to all their friends, family, neighbors, community kids and animals. Their home was filled with singing, laughing, practical jokes, funny nicknames, playing pinochle and hosting neighborhood get-togethers.

“Avid Fan” doesn’t adequately express Barbara’s love for Tar Heels Basketball and the former Elizabethton Twins. During the 70’s & 80’s Barb and Sonny were Twins season ticket holders and were summer family hosts for many of the players that got their start playing minor league ball in Elizabethton, including many of the future members of the ’87 & ’91 World Series Champs. The Shoun’s frequently traveled with the team to their away games to VA, WVA & KY. Many lifelong friendships were forged supporting the former Twins.

Barb worked at Raytheon of Bristol, and Hammond Organ of Elizabethton. However, in the mid 1980’s she realized her true calling was care giving to seniors. Barb loved her retired ladies and was known as ‘the best cleaning lady’ of Elizabethton in the 80’s & 90’s.

Barb had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1955 where she served as a Sunday School teacher, GA leader and Youth mom. She never met a dog she didn’t LOVE and for many years was the President of the Carter County Humane Society, for more than two decades Barbara was a member of the Johnson City Brunswick Bowling league, and the Elizabethton Red Hat Society.

Barbara looked into the eyes of Jesus on Wednesday, August 25th and was proceeded in death by her mother & father, Della Moody & George Moody, her bonus mom & dad, Alma & Ben Cannon, her brother, Ted Cannon, her half-brother, Ronnie Moody and her husband of 55 years, Sonny Shoun. She is survived by her daughter and son-in –law, Anne & JD Byrd of Buffalo Valley, TN, her son and daughter-in-law, Gene & Katherine Tyler Shoun of Elizabethton, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Ivy Hall Nursing Home staff which were truly a second family to Barbara. She loved you all very much. Thanks is also extended to Amedisys Hospice. Services for Barbara will be held on Saturday, September 11th at Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton. Receiving of Friends 12 – 1:30 with funeral services following. A private graveside service, for immediate family only, will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

1070 Barbara Jean Eisenhower, age 81, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Barbara was born on July 24, 1940 to the late Dorothy Adkins. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, John Eisenhower and sister, June States.

Barbara was a wonderful bride of 64 years to John and a special mother to her five children. She loved preparing huge holiday meals and made every holiday a special occasion for her family. She enjoyed gardening and beautiful flowers, watching her birds and she loved her dogs. She always gave selflessly. Her energy and personality will forever live in our hearts. We love and miss you mom! Say hello to dad as we know that’s where your heart truly lied. Good night sweet mother!

1071 Barbara Jean Grindstaff Hobson, 97, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019, at Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton.

Jean Hobson was born April 16, 1921 in Johnson City, TN to Roscoe and Corda Greenlee Grindstaff.

Barbara Jean graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1939. She was a long-time resident of Northern Virginia working for the Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Agriculture and Department of Commerce, retiring from Civil Service after 34 years. As a statistical analyst, her budget reports were read by other agency heads, Congress members and the President of the United States.

Barbara Jean was an avid reader and loved to travel. She was active, along with her husband, with the Lions Club in Northern Virginia.

Barbara Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George Hobson, sister Garnet Moody, brothers Donald Grindstaff and Merle Grindstaff.

She is survived by a sister Pat Crowder; son, Mike Grindstaff (wife Dixie); step-children, Silvia Wrenn and David Hobson; grandchildren Lora Clark, Rachel Grindstaff, John Grindstaff, and Helen Glasheen; great-grandchildren, Seth, Gavin and Katrina Clark, Hampton Grindstaff and Ivey Glasheen; many beloved nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 29, 2019, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Gerald Malcolm, officiating.

Interment will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

1072 Barbara Jean Lipford, age 69, of 938 Crossroads Drive went to her heavenly home on April 24, 2012. She had battled a long case of Alzheimer’s. She attended the Ackerson Creek Church of Christ. Barbara loved to travel and shop and spend time with family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born to the late Garney and Ruby Gentry. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lipford.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Lipford and very special friend Samantha Stout and Wayne and April Lipford all of Mountain City, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Brandon Lipford, Christopher Lipford, Jeffery Lipford, Bradley Lipford, Stephen Lipford and Caleb Lipford.; two great grandchildren, Gage Lipford and Hailey Lipford; four sisters, Betty and Herman Trivette, Deloris and Grady Roark, Kathy and Ken Thomas and Diana Gentry and special friend Glenn Stewart; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Barbara Lipford were conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Stidham officiating. Graveside service and interment were Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from the Trivette Cemetery. 1073 Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Hammer, 77, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday April 12, 2022, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
Barbara was born in Johnson City to the late Rev. John E. Scalf and Ruby Bowers Scalf. Mrs. Hammer retired from the American Red Cross after 20 years of service. Barbara was a Certified Medical Assistant and had previously attended ETSU.
Barbara was a member of By Faith Freewill Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and a member of the church choir. She was truly a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She enjoyed taking trips with her husband Earl and other family members, cooking for holiday family gatherings, hiking, and taking car rides with Earl. She especially enjoyed their trips to Niagara Falls, Washington DC, and Myrtle Beach, SC.
Barbara was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family, loved to laugh, and she was cherished by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Annalee Dulaney and brother in-law Fred Dulaney, brothers John Scalf Jr. and Charles Scalf and sister in-law Teresa; a daughter, Kimberly G. Hammer, two granddaughters Sarah Hammer and Hannah Hammer, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years Samuel Earl Hammer; her brother Harold Scalf of Watauga, Tn; a daughter Belinda James and son William “Bill” Hammer and wife Scarlet all of Johnson City; her grandchildren Daphny Jones, Thomas Williams, Kristina Adams, Laura Ramsey, Isaac Hammer, and John Ramsey; great-grandchildren Carson Taylor, Kendyl Adams, and Noah Ramsey; and several nieces, nephews and special friend Frances Soffiotto.
The family of Barbara Hammer will receive friends on Saturday April 16, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Morris Baker Funeral Home with funeral services at 12:00 PM with Pastor Randy English and Reverend Jay Prater officiating. 1074 Barbara Jeanne Clark Buck, 93, passed away at home on September 9, 2021.

She was born August 29, 1928, to William H. and Anna Bell Shoun Clark.

She was a 1946 graduate of Elizabethton High School and earned her BS in Education from ETSU. She was one of the first certified teachers in the state of Tennessee and was issued a permanent teaching license. She positively influenced hundreds of children during her 32-year tenure as an elementary school teacher. She was a proud member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Woman’s Club of Elizabethton.

She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church with a membership at St Paul UMC at the time of her death. She served in multiple capacities within the church, including singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and serving as UMW president to name a few.

Barbara was an accomplished artist and crafter. She loved all types of flowers and gardening. She loved swimming and yearly beach trips. She was a voracious reader and, most importantly, she loved her family fiercely.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David F. Buck in 2010; an infant daughter, Nola Marie Buck; a sister, Patricia Clark Lane; a son-in-law, Alvin E. Tester, Jr., in 1996.

She is survived by two sons and their wives: David L. and Kathy Jo Buck and Keith and Patti Buck; a daughter, Nelta Buck; three grandchildren: Rachel Estep (Daniel), Shannon Banner and Cody Buck; great-grandson Brayln Banner and step great-grandson, Ashton Estep. Survivors also include a brother, John W. Clark; a sister-in-law June (Sherman) Pritchard; several nieces and nephews; and family-in-love, Mimi and Dru Williams.

Barbara’s family will receive friends on Sunday, September 12, 2021, from 2 until 4 pm with service to follow at Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Mike Pinner officiating. 1075 Barbara Joan Heaton Caudill, 69, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. Barbara was born in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Homer Rex Heaton and Francis Jane Potter Heaton. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by the father of her children, Roger Caudill, and two sisters, Kathy Phipps and Sue Pierce.
Barbara had worked as a wood grader at QEP for over 21 years and had also worked as a clothes manufacturer prior to QEP. Barbara had worked hard her entire life and loved everyone and got along with anyone she met. She was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed crafting and making things with her hands. She also enjoyed watching YouTube and learning new creative ways of crafting.
Those left to cherish Barbara’s many memories include her husband, Billy Hughes, of the home; her son, Jeffrey Caudill; her daughter, Jennifer Sanderson and husband Ryan; two granddaughters, Hayden Sanderson and Ashley Caudill; a brother, Steve Potter and wife Kathy; one sister, Nancy Dugger and husband Steve; and one brother-in-law, Mike Pierce. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
An open visitation for family and friends to pay their respects will be conducted from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, at Tetrick Funeral Home (the family will not be present). A private graveside will be conducted at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

1076 Barbara Lee Wilson, age 62, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.

She was a daughter of Mary Evelyn Wilson Sargent, Elizabethton and the late Richard Lee Sargent and was born in Carter County. Mrs. Wilson was a retired LPN and worked at several area hospitals during her life. She was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Golden Group at Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Wilson enjoyed cross-stitching, painting, working puzzle books and working ceramics. She loved cats, dogs and children.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Ruby Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Carl D. Hardin.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 39 years, Larry E. Wilson, of the home; two sisters, Shirley Banks and husband, Wilbur, Unicoi; Roberta Campbell and husband, Ed, Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Barbara Presnell and husband, Mike, Johnson City; two brothers-in-law, Lester Wilson and wife, Verna, North Carolina, Michael Wilson and wife, Lynn, Jonesborough; three nieces, Alisha Ferren, Mary Ann Hughes and husband, Chris, and Michelle Nichols; two nephews, Jonathan Presnell and Nicholas Hardin; three great nieces, Courtney Hughes, Kelsey Hughes and Harper Ferren; four great-nephews, Deacon Ferren, Jaelyn Hardin, Tynnesson Hardin, Sage Nichols; and a special friend, Donna.

The Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2014 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Ray Colbaugh and Reverend Nick Colbaugh officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mike Presnell. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Monday, prior to the funeral service in the chapel or at the residence of the mother, Mary Evelyn Sargent.

1077 Barbara Louise Collins, age 80, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at NHC Healthcare, Johnson City.

Born in Manchester, NH, on December 30, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Blanche M. Mitchell and sister of the late Frederick Wellington Mitchell, Bridgeport, CT.

She was a retired career military wife and homemaker that resided in Johnson City, Tennessee, since 1964. She was a member of The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association (surviving spouse's group) and The Humane Society of the United States. Mrs. Collins was Irish Catholic.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, George P. Collins, on January 2, 1991, originally of Butler, Tennessee and retired from the United States Air Force and Thorp & Co., Johnson City, TN.

Mrs. Collins is survived by two sons, Patrick B. (Pat) Collins, Johnson City, Tennessee, and Gary M. Collins, Las Vegas, NV; several great grandchildren and grandchildren, including Adam and Alex Collins, Johnson City, Tennessee.

A graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, December 10, 2010, at 1:00 PM at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Ray Herbert and Nora Campbell Whaley. Barbara was a caring, sweet and loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing and taking care of the home. She loved to go to yard sales and flea markets, also.

A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Daddy Joe and Mama Willie Hughes. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Lucille Hughes; sister, Shirley Robinson and brother, Kenneth Raymond Hughes. Barbara Sue was a member of Whites Memorial Baptist Church who's life was loving her grandchildren.

Surviving is a daughter, Julie McCurry of Spruce Pine; son, Rick Penrod and wife, Tammy, of Lily Branch; four grandchildren: Cody Buchanan, Skylor McCurry, Joseph Richard Penrod and Savannah Marie Riggs; one great-grandchild, Isaiah Buchanan; two sisters: Louella Singleton and husband, Eddie, and Lila Vance and husband, Butch, all of Stamey Branch; three brothers: Maynard Hughes and wife, Reneth, and Sanford Hughes and wife, Jackie, all of Spruce Pine and Stan Hughes and wife, Amy, of Virgilina. 1083 Barney P. Jennings, age 78, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on December 27, 1939 to the late Walter Clyde Jennings and Lora 'Mae Bell' Cornett Jennings. In addition to his parents, Barney was preceded in death by one grandson, Jody Jennings Jr., sister, Verlene Martin and brothers, Howard, Geter, Oscar, Columbus, Ralph and Perry Jennings.

Barney came from a large family and was one of 15 children. He learned the value and reward of hard work at an early age and took great pride in any job he did. He worked in Pennsylvania as a mushroom farmer for 30 years and at Jennings Construction for another 30 years.

Barney was a very good man, husband, father, grandfather, brother and loved his family very much. He was a people person and always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had several hobbies but really enjoyed fishing when he wasn't working.

1085 Barton Allen Hawkins, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born on March 9, 1925, to the late Clyde and Hazel Vaught Hawkins. In addition to his parents, Barton was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Sue Hawkins; and a brother, Johnny Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wynell Pardue Hawkins; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Ann Hawkins; brother, Joe Hawkins; granddaughter, Kisha Wilson; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Barton was a 1944 Graduate of Johnson County High School. Following high school, Barton enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served during World War II.
Following his military career, Barton returned to farming. He was a graduate of the Graham School Cattlemen in Garrett, Kansas; served 12 years as Southeast Division Director of Dairymen, Inc.; served 14 years as Director of American Dairy Association of Tennessee; served 14 years as Director of Food and Nutrition Council of the Appalachian; Former President of the Tennessee Milk Producers Federation; served 4 years as the Director of the National Dairy Council; Delegate to the National Milk Producers Federation.
Barton was a member of the 94th and 95th Tennessee General Assemblies; served 16 years as Director of Soil and Water Conservation of Johnson County; Delegate to the 1970 Tennessee Constitution Convention representing the 4th Legislative District; served 4 years as a Member of the Private Industry Council of Tennessee and Tennessee State Representative from 1985-1988.
Barton was a 32nd Degree Mason and Knight Commander of the Court of Honor; Scottish Rite and Jericho Shriner.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Mountain City Funeral Home.

1086 Basil Eugene “Gene” Sluder, 78, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the Community Living Center at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born November 30, 1944 in Shady Valley to the late Carl and Brookie Wood Sluder. Gene was a 1964 graduate of Johnson County High School. He proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam Era. He loved God and his country fervently. He retired from the City of Titusville, Fla., and was known to his co-workers as “Super Man.” He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Hensz Sluder, April 10, 2022; his brothers, Glenn Sluder, Jack Sluder and Walter Sluder; and his sisters, Myrtle Hutchinson, Mildred Upchurch, Adelphia “Deb” French, Dora Lee Lunceford and Darla Evans. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, from 2 until 3 p.m. at the Shady Valley Baptist Church, Shady Valley, Tenn., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dan Little officiating. 1087 Baxter Fred Parsons age 82, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Saturday morning, July 24, 2021 at his home. He was born in Johnson County, TN on April 21, 1939 to the late Bill Parsons and Purdie Phillips Parsons. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Pauline Parsons and Evalee Parsons.

Fred loved music, collecting angels, laminating and saving pictures. He was a good hearted person and always wanted to help people. Fred’s family was the most important thing to him and he loved them very much. His sister Ethel was his best friend. He loved God and prayed daily. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. Those left to cherish his memories include his sisters, Ethel Tester, Delcie Parks, and Leona Roark; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Frank Woods to officiate. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral service from the Donnelly Cemetery. Pallbearers will be R.J. 1088 Beatrice "Granny B" Whaley, age 86, 3627 Hwy. 321, Butler, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 29, 2007 from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Elizabeth Rainbolt Ward. Mrs. Whaley was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church for seventy years where she was active in Women on Mission. She retired from the Carter County School System where she worked as an aide on the bus for handicapped students. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Whaley, November 13, 1988 and one son, James D. "John" Whaley in 1995. Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law: Roma and Phillip Waycaster, Kingsport, one son and daughter-in-law: Roy and Maxine Whaley, Butler, one daughter-in-law: Robin Swinson, Butler, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three sisters: Ruby Elliott, Margie Pearson, Judy Mick, all of Elizabethton, two brothers: Fredrick Carroll Ward, Elizabethton and Ed Ward, Gulf Port, MS and special friends: Bart and Susie Smith, Butler, Judy Vines, Elizabethton and Timothy Clawson, Butler. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Whaley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 2 in Little Milligan Baptist Church with Rev. Nick Bradshaw and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Ronnie Campbell and the Little Milligan Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. 1089 Beatrice Bayless Beals, 95, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
Beatrice was a long-term resident of Jonesborough prior to moving to Johnson City in 2001. In addition to her parents, Edgar and Carrie Bayless, Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Beals; a sister, Estella Mae Bayless; and grandson, Erik Lachman.
Survivors include her two daughters and one son, Phyllis Lachman, Dianna Beals, and Billy “Doc” Parris; one brother, Charlie Bayless and wife, Jane; four grandchildren, Mark, David, and Russ Lachman, and Heather Taylor; four great grandchildren, Ben, Sydney, and Aaron Lachman, and Ellenor Taylor; four nieces, Sarae' Trivett, Cathy Garland, Karen Goulds, Charlene Bayless; and a number of grand nieces and nephews.
A private memorial and committal service was held on Sunday, November 22, 2015, in the Morris-Baker Chapel. The body was laid to rest at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

1090 Beatrice Buck Roberts, 88, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Ms. Roberts was of a native of Banner Elk, N.C., but had lived in her later years in Newland, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Chester Arthur and Mary Ann Oaks Buck and was preceded in death by her brother, James "Jim" C. Buck, and sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Troutman Buck of Harrisburg, N.C.
Ms. Roberts was retired from the Avery CAP Program of Appalachian Healthcare Systems and had worked several years at Grandfather Golf and Country Club of Linville, N.C.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Kelly Roberts, Hampton, Tenn.; a beloved grandson, Jonah Roberts, Roan Mountain, Tenn.; a step-grandson, Cale Ensor, Telford, Tenn.; cherished nephew and wife, James David and Lydia Buck, Harrisburg, N.C.; adored great-nephew and wife, James Jeremiah and Jill Buck, Charlotte, N.C.; great-nephew and wife, David Isaac and Gretchen Buck, Raleigh, N.C.; a great-niece, Rebekah Elizabeth Buck, Charlotte, N.C.; a grand dog, "Gus"; two first cousins, Ms. Roberts thought of as sisters, Kat Shell Church, Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Pat Shell Testerman, Harrisburg, N.C. Kat was tireless in her devotion to Bea and her love for her will not be forgotten.
A special heartfelt thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, who treated Ms. Roberts as family throughout her residence there. A special thank you for the kindness showed by the First Church of the Nazarene of Elizabethton for the visits with Ms. Roberts.
Ms. Roberts requested no services for her and often stated she preferred visits when she was alive and not after her passing. Ms. Roberts will be cremated and has left specific instructions for dispersal of the ashes with her son.

1091 Beatrice Young Gouge, age 80 of Hwy 226 Bakersville, NC passed away, June 11, 2005 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Edd and Hulda Freeman Young, and a Native of Mitchell County, NC. She was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include; husband Bill W. Gouge, of the home, daughter, Karen Greene, and husband Paul, of Bakersville, NC, son, Royce Gouge, and wife Debbie, of Clemmons, and one sister, Jessie Lee Tipton, of Green Mountain, NC, three grandchildren, Kevin Gouge, Nathan Greene, and Mitzie Reed, six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by; daughter, Kathleen Garland, and one brother, Delaney Young.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 13, at 8:00, in the chapel of Henline – Hughes Funeral Home with Clifford Willis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Tuesday, June 14 at 11:00 at Malone Gouge Cemetery.

1092 Beaverton---Robert Cochran, 79, a resident of Gladwin County for more than 50 years, died Monday evening at the Midland Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Cochran was a retired farmer. He was born May 12, 1878 in Carter County, Tenn. He married the former Ellen Skinner in June, 1902. Mr. Cochran was a member of the Beaverton Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, two daughters, Mrs. Ellis McKimmy, Beaverton, Mrs. Theodore Colbeck, Saginaw; three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Nat Cochran, Midland, George Cochran, Blissfield, and James Cochran Unicoi Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday from the Dale Methodist Church. The Rev. Vernon Summers will officiate assisted by the Rev. Earl Atkinson. 1094 BEDFORD, Texas — Frederick Earl VanHuss, a resident of Bedford for 32 years, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at the age of 72. Fred graduated from Tri- State College with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked in that field for over 40 years. He served in Germany during the later years of the Korean war and was awarded marksmanship awards. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Hazel R. VanHuss. Survivors include his children, Debbie Long, Patty Suarez, Donna Wrachford and Rick VanHuss, all of Arlington, and Steve VanHuss, Seattle, Wash. 1096 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Linda H. Moody, 70, of Johnson City, departed this life Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center, and now is in the arms of her savior.
Mrs. Moody was a Johnson City native who returned home in 1976. She was a daughter of the late Edward G. and Edna Davis.
She was a member of Fishery Community Church, Erwin.
Along with her husband, she was the owner and operator of Moody Books in Johnson City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elaine D. Maddox.
Survivors include: her husband, Vearl "Gil" Moody, of the home; four children, Vickie Allison, Chicago, IL, Linda Gaye Cass, New York, Vearl E. Moody, Jr., Bluff City, and Timothy Moody, Lake Placid, NY; brother, Eddie Davis, Jr., Johnson City; two sisters, Sharon Wrinn, and Betty Caraway, both of Johnson City; and four grandchildren.

1097 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Elizabeth Stout, passed away early Tuesday morning January 2, 2018 after a brief illness.

Born in Mountain City, Tennessee on October 29, 1933, Elizabeth was raised by her loving grandparents, John and Nora Phillippi.

In addition to her grandparents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Anna Kate Adams Phillippi, sister, Peggy Phillippi Poteat and brother-in-law, Bill Stout.

She married Blaine Stout on June 17, 1952. After a four year stint in the Air Force by Blaine, the couple returned from England and settled in Boone, North Carolina to raise their three sons. Once the boys were in school, Elizabeth returned to school and became a licensed nurse and began work as a surgical nurse at Watauga County Hospital for 28 years.

After retirement, the couple settled back in Mountain City where Elizabeth became involved with the Garden Club, Red Hat Society, Rotary Club, Heritage Hall and her beloved Frist Baptist Church. There, she sang in the choir and was active in her Sunday School Class, WOM and the Bereavement Committee.

Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion and servanthood to her family and community. Anyone who knew her was touched by her kindness and sweetness.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 65 years, Blaine Stout; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Debbie Stout of Boone, NC, Donald and Patricia Stout of Mars Hill, NC and Steven and Debbie Stout of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren: Daniel Stout, Sarah Block and husband David, Kelsey Condon and husband Jack, Kristen Stout, Kimberly Stout, Michael Stout, Joseph Stout and wife Jenny; great-grandchildren: Colette and Henry Block; sister, Lorraine Westrick and husband Dick; brother, Ralph Phillippi and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Brenda Stout; many, many special friends and neighbors and her special four legged friend, her cat, Tigger.

Special music will be provided by Pastor Campbell and the church choir. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at Phillippi Cemetery. Belva Dean was a graduate of Unaka High School. She retired in 1992 from Alcatel USA and was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She loved to work crossword puzzles and card games. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Cole Davenport and Evelyn Andes; two brothers, Dallas and Tony White; and a nephew, Gary Wayne White. Survivors include two sisters, JoAnne (Delbert) Reese and Thelma (James) Nutter; two brothers, Richard (Carolyn) White and Roger White; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Diane White and Wanda White. 1099 Ben Allen Greene, age 74, of Stoney Hollow Road, Elk Park, passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.

Ben was born Sept. 1, 1945, in Avery County, a son of the late Geter and Rosa Estep Greene. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church. He loved his Lord and Savior and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially the biggest blessing of his life, his great-grandchildren. He also had many friends too numerous to mention.

Funeral services for Ben Allen Greene were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body lay in state at the chapel, from 10 to 11 a.m. Officiating was Pastor Derrick Wilson and Pastor Dean Estep. Burial followed in the Abe Trivette Cemetery in Butler, Tenn.

He was born a son of the late William and Lily Jane Holtsclaw Turbyfill.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by; his sisters, Lora Richardson, Ruth Johnson, Hazel Hamby, Frankie Cook and Stella Potter; and brothers, Charlie, Paul and Lon.

Survivors include; his wife of 65 years, Florence Johnson Turbyfill of the home; sons, Ray and wife Valerie of Roan Mountain, Earl and wife Frances of Elk Park, Danny and wife Betty of Johnson City, Donnie and wife Teresa of Johnson City, Michael and wife Elizabeth of Banner Elk and Hobert (Kim) and wife Linda of Roan Mountain; daughters, Joann Taylor and husband Doug of Elk Park, Patty Hicks and husband Jerry of Elk Park, Geraldine Guinn and husband Spunk of Elk Park and Jill Jones and husband Will of Roan Mountain; sister, Nell Moody of Elk Park; Thirty two grandchildren and thirty one great grandchildren also survive.
