John "Jackie" Griffith was the son of Revolutionary War soldier Chisholm Griffith and his second wife Mary Polly Briggs.
His wife, Annie Byrd,(1725-11 Jan 1825) was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier George William Byrd and Annie Hutson.Annie Byrd predeceased her father who died later in 1825. John sued the administrator of her late father's estate in order to obtain his children's inheritance.My guess for this suit was because his six children were all 10 years and younger at the time. The money was probably most needed.The suit went on to the North Carolina Supreme Court where he did not prevail.
