2. | Joshua Williams was born on 16 Jul 1808 in Carter County, , , Tennessee (son of Archibald Williams and Rhoda Taylor); died on 17 Oct 1895 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Notes:
Joshua Williams, who departed this life Oct. 17th, 1895, in the 88th year of his age, was the last survivor of a noted family of Carter county and of that particular generation.
Uncle Joshua, as we called him, was generous, hospitable and kind. He donated one acres of beautiful land for educational purposes, on which Milligan College now stands, and was a hearty supporter of the school in its incipiency, and afterwards as well.
In the strength of his manhood, he became a member of the church, and for many years his comfortable and well supplied house was the home of the minister whose services he attended with his faithful wife and family with unusual delight and appreciation. He was kind. The stranger and the poor, the orphan and the widow, had a home with him. None could say, I was hungry and ye fed me not. He indeed was a worthy and generous host of whom all could feel free to honor and love. May all who rated him tenderly in his declining days share the Divine blessing. Peace to his ashes and rest to his spirit.
Joshua married Elizabeth Fletcher Lane in Sep 1831 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Elizabeth was born on 26 Jan 1810 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 18 Oct 1885 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
