    Notes:

    James Thomson received two grants of land in 1773 - 400 acres on Cypress Creek in St. Peter's Parish. During the American Revolution, Thomson held the rank of lieutenant colonel (ca. 1779-1782) and was promoted to Colonel. Representing his home parish, he served in the third (1779-1780), fourth (1782), Fifth (1783-1784, Sixth (1785-1786) and Seventh (1787-1788) General Assemblies. Among his local offices were justice of the peace for the Beaufort district. DAR Reference No. 445952, 200320, 407499 'Col. James Thomson, place of residence during the Revolution was Beaufort District, St. Peter's Parish, Cranville, Co. S.C.A member from St. Peters Parish of the Committee appointed by the S.C. Provincial Congress, Charleston Jan. 1775 for 'Carrying into execution the Continental Association' as shown in American Archives fourth series Vol 1 pg. 1114, in Columbus, S.C. Caroliana Library. S.C. Treasurer's Journal, pg. 22-24, March 1778, shows under Members of Assembly and Militia payments to James Thomson for attendance and for service in Col Bull's Regiment in 1776 #430.
