    Ms. Joan Hardin Sawyer age 86 of Brookhaven, GA passed away onTuesday April 13, 2021 at Northside Hospital-Atlanta, GA following an extended illness.
    Funeral services are scheduled for Friday April 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lincoln Cemetery Chapel- 2275 Joseph E. Boone NW, Atlanta, Ga with entombment to follow in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Dr. Herbert Bridgewater will officiate the service.
    Joan was born on November 11, 1934 to the late Clay Hardin Sr. and Sophia Oliver Hardin.
    Joan previously owned and operated the historic Lincoln Cemetery and Monte Vista Biblical Gardens in Atlanta, GA. She later branched out to Decatur and owned and operated Washington Memorial Gardens and Dawn Memorial Park.
    She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was a graduate from East Tennessee State University.
    She was a past president of the Georgia Cemetery Association, Southern Cemetery Association. Joan was the 1st woman to be the president of both the Southern Cemetery Association and Georgia Cemetery Association. She was a member of the League of Women Voters. She was also the first female board member of the prestigious Ravinia club and was the first female member for several significant community organizations.
    She was a trailblazer for many women's association groups and women's rights. She served as the president of the Women's Prestigious Association of Atlanta, Ga. Joan is in the Hall of Fame for the Boys and Girls Club of Atlanta. She was awarded The Outstanding Community Service Award from The Concerned Black Clergy of Metro Atlanta. The Lincoln Family Group was present at the outstanding annual gala and was nominated for this prestigious award by the Reverend Dr. H. Jeremiah Bridgewater Jr.
    She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Clay Hardin Jr.
    Ms. Sawyer is survived by her son, Jack Frost, II of Atlanta, Ga, and her grandchildren, Shayda Frost of Los Angeles, California, and Parisa Frost of Los
    Angeles, California, great nephew Sergio Montescelis of Newnan, Georgia and a host of their family members and friends.

    Sophia Oliver Hardin, 80, of Atlanta, GA.; formerly of Elizabethton, TN, died Tuesday in the Georgia Baptist Hospital, Atlanta, following an extended illness.
    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Emma Oliver. Mrs. Hardin was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Bemburg Corporation. She was preceded in death by a son, William Clay Hardin Jr.
    Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia Oliver Hardin, 80, of Atlanta, GA., formerly of Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

    Charlie Oliver, age 78, of Route 5, Elizabethton, died in King's Mountain Convalescent Home, Bristol, VA., Wednesday evening, following an illness of five months. He was formerly a guard at the State Penitentiary, Petros, Tenn., a magistrate and deputy Sheriff in Carter County for 16 years, also Clerk and Master for the County. He was a member of the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. A Native and live long resident of this county, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Bowers Oliver in 1940. Survivors include three daughters, Miss Grace Oliver, 418 N. Main Street, Elizabethton; Mrs. Sophia Hardin, Route 5, Elizabethton; and Mrs. Ama White, 110 S. Pine Street, Elizabethton; one son, Albert E. Oliver, 112 W. Riverside Drive, Elizabethton; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, on great great grandchild also survives. Tetrick Funeral Home in charge.

    Oliver - Funeral service for Charlie Oliver will be help 2 p.m. Sunday from the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. W.W. Ward and Rev. R.G. Blackburn. The body will remain in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and will be taken to the church at noon Sunday. Active pallbearers will be Paul Hillman, Eston Bowers, Howard Bowers, Mike Nave, Robert Williams, Tyler Williams, Clyde Williams, and Wiley Grindstaff. Honorary pallbearers will be George Wilson, Lynn Williams, Everett Bowers, Earl Morrell, Delmar Williams, Tom Williams, Jim Elliott, Lloyd Perry, Ernest Brumitt, Jim Deal, Abe Roberson, Tom Nave, Doc Nave, John Nave, Starling Hodge. Flower bearers will be friends. Interment will be at Wilson Cemetery.

    Mrs. Mollie Oliver, 65, wife of Charles Oliver, deputy sheriff and member of the equalization board of Carter county, died at the family residence at Watauga Valley last night at 6:30, after a brief illness. Surviving are her husband, Charles Oliver; three daughters, Mrs. Sophia Hardin, and the Misses Grace and Amy Oliver; one son, Earl; one sister, Miss Josie Bowers, and one brother, Dan Bowers, all of Watauga Valley. Funeral services will be held from the Baptist church at Watauga Valley Sunday morning at 11:00 o'clock. Rev. D. R. Kilgore and Rev. E. J. Bramlett will officiate. Burial in the Wilson Cemetery.
