JONESBOROUGH - Linda Darlene Stansbery, age 71 of Jonesborough, Tennessee passed away suddenly, following complications from surgery, on Friday, September 10, 2021 in the Franklin Woods Community Hospital. She was the daughter of Carroll E. and Alice H. Stout, born to them on February 25, 1950 in Mountain City, Tennessee. Linda attended the University Parkway Baptist Church and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Positive Thinkers, the Beta Theta Club, as well as the Women’s Club of Elizabethton. She worked at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital for 20 years and greatly enjoyed attending live music concerts, traveling, cooking, and family gatherings.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving children, Stephani Jarnigan (Josh) and Mitchell Stansbery (Penny); her grandchildren, Carlisle Jarnigan, Jansen Jarnigan, and Joseph Stansbery; her life partner, Bob Stansbery; her brothers, Wayne Stout (Judy) and Dennis Stout (Kathy). She is also survived by many other relatives and friends left behind to cherish her memory.

Funeral services for Linda Stansbery will be conducted on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Josh Jarnigan officiating.

The Stansbery Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, after 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service at 7:00 P.M.

A graveside service for Linda will be conducted on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Roselawn Memory Gardens with grandsons, family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Carroll E. Stout, age 88, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital following an extended illness. He was a Johnson County native born August 3, 1925, a son of the late Asa and Eula Proffitt Stout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Asa Stout, Jr., Chalmas Stout, and Lowell Stout.

He was a graduate of the Watauga Academy and was a World War II veteran having served in the Marine Corps. He retired from Burlington Industries. He was a member of the Doe Valley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 for fifty-nine years.

Carroll is survived by his loving wife of 67 and ½ years, Alice Hicks Stout of the home, daughter, Linda Stansbery of Mountain City, TN, sons Dennis Stout and wife Kathy of Mountain City, TN, and Wayne Stout and wife Judy of Elizabethton, TN, sister, Pat Long and husband J.R. of Shady Valley, TN, grandchildren Mitchell Stansbery and wife Penny, Stephani Jarnigan and husband Josh, and Michael Stout, great-grandchildren, Carlisle and Jansen Jarnigan, and Joe Stansbery, special friends, Hilah Coleman and Gail Miller, and several nieces and nephews.

Carroll married Alice Alma Hicks on 24 Dec 1946 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee. Alice (daughter of William R. Hicks and Sarah Eva Davis) was born on 22 Feb 1928 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 14 Oct 2014 in Iredell County, , , North Carolina; was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, , Johnson County, Tennessee. Alice Stout, age 86, of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, NC. She was a Johnson County native and was born on February 22, 1928 to the late William R. “Bill” Hicks and Sarah Evelyn Davis Hicks. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 67 and ½ years, Carroll E. Stout, who passed away on July 12, 2014; infant daughter, Rita Diane Stout, sisters: infant Helen Hicks, Hazel Adams, Rose Stamper, Bessie Swanay and Winnie Harper, brothers: Wayne Hicks, Fred Hicks, Frank Hicks, Herb Hicks, J.T. Hicks and Lester Hicks. She was the last survivor out of a family of twelve children.

She loved to work in her flowers, enjoyed quilting, and also liked to travel. She retired from Timberland Shoe Company after 35 years of service. Alice loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will truly be missed by those who knew her.

She was a member of the Doe Valley United Methodist Church.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Linda Stansbery of Mountain City, TN; sons: Dennis Stout and wife Kathy of Mountain City, TN, and Wayne Stout and wife Judy of Elizabethton, TN; grandchildren: Mitchell Stansbery and wife Penny, Stephani Jarnigan and husband Josh, and Michael Stout, great-grandchildren: Carlisle and Jansen Jarnigan, and Joe Stansbery, sister-in-laws, Geraldine Hicks and Judy Hicks, special friends, Hilah Coleman and Gail Miller, and several special nieces and nephews.
