Mrs. Goldie Presnell Hicks, 59, of 212 Coy Harris Road, Elk Park, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Watauga Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 4, 1944, in Banner Elk, Avery County, to Mary Alice Tester Presnell and the late David Gold Presnell.

Mrs. Hicks was an In-Home aide with the Avery County Health System CAP program for the past 14 years. She was a former nursing assistant at Watauga Medical Center and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Hicks; two sons, Robert Hicks and wife, Rhonda, of Gatlinburg, Tenn. and Mikeal Hicks of Elk Park; one daughter, Nita Wilcox and husband, Bill, of Vilas; four grandsons, Matthew Hicks of Elk Park, Luke Wilcox of Vilas, Jake Hicks and Kevin Hicks, both of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; her mother, Mary Alice Presnell Peterson of Sugar Grove; one sister, Ruby Hagaman and husband, Jimmie, of Sugar Grove; one brother, Roy Presnell of Boone; three nephews, David Hagaman of Salisbury, Roy Presnell and Randall Presnell, both of Sugar Grove; and one niece, Donna Townsend of Boone.

She was preceded in death by a niece, Patricia Ann Hagaman.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 2 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Gene Smith and the Rev. Bill Miller. Burial followed in the Hicks Family Cemetery.

Goldie married Raymond Odell Hicks about 1962 in Rowan County, , , North Carolina. Raymond (son of Floyd Raynond Hicks and Bonnie Victoria Harris) was born on 21 Jun 1940 in , Avery County, North Carolina, ; died on 28 Jan 2020 in , Watauga County, North Carolina, North Carolina; was buried in Hicks Cemetery, , Avery County, North Carolina.
