    Mrs. Lottie Hyder, 98, of 451 Race St., Elizabethton, died Saturday, 21Jul1990, in Heritage Manor following a lenghty illness.
    A native of VA, she was a daughter of the lat S. F. & Margaret Salyer, & had lived most of her life in Carter Co.
    Mrs. Hyder was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hyder in 1960 & by 12 brothers.
    Survivors include 1 son, Roy L. Renfro, Rt. 9, Elizabethton; 1 daughter, Mrs. Helen Wilson, Columbus, GA; a granddaughter, Mrs. Roberts Hughes, Elizabethton; 7 other grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews also survive.
    Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
    HYDER - Funeral services for Mrs. Lottie Hyder, 98, of 451 Race St., Elizabethton, will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday from the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Winford Floyd & Rev. Ray Scalf officiating. Music will be by Mr. Dale Williams, soloist. Graveside service & interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Highland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eric Worthington, Richard Renfro, Shawn Buckles, Phil Hyder, Kenny Webb & Junior Salyer. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Steven May, Dr. Eugene Galloway, Dr. David Slagle, the Staff of Heritage Manor & members of the Carter Co. Rescue Squad.

    Notes:

    Flanders was the son of Henderson & Nancy Price Salyer. He married Margaret Ellen Shipley, the daughter of Daniel K. & Ellender Cox Shipley, on January 18, 1879 in Scott County, Virginia. The couple were the parents of Daniel Kenny, Stephen Frank, Huey, William Carson, Lottie A., James Orven, Rosville "Ross" Colgan and John W. Salyer. He earned his living by farming his own land. In addition, he was a Minister of the Gospel. Rev. Salyer passed away from the effects of pulmonary tuberculosis.

    Pioneer Farmer and Minister of Scott and Russell Counties, Va. Dies Here.

    Flanders M. Salyer, pioneer minister and farmer of Scott and Russell counties, Va., died at his home in Kingsport, Friday night.

    He was a son of Jerry and Nancy Price Salyer, and was born in Russell county, Va. When a young man he moved to Scott county and had lived there until recently when he moved to Kingsport.

    He had been engaged in farming for an occupation and in addition has been a minister of the Primitive Baptist church, holding a pastorate at the Point Truth church near Nickelsville, Va., for the past thirty years and also had served several other churches in that time. He had been successful with his business affairs and was considered one of the outstanding ministers of his denomination in this section.

    Funeral services will be held at the home on Bristol boulevard today at 2 p.m. by Rev. S.H. Gilbert of Rutledge, Tenn., and Rev. William Robinette of East Stone Gap, Va., associate ministers in his church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Johnson City, Sunday afternoon.

    Surviving, his wife, Mrs. Margaret Salyer, one daughter, Mrs. R.D. Hyder, Elizabethtown, Tenn., five sons, D.K. Salyer, Nickelsville, Va., A.L. Salyer, Cincinnati, Ohio, R.C. Salyer, Detroit, Mich., S.F. and John Salyer, Kingsport, Tenn.

    Flanders married Margaret Ellen Shipley on 18 Jan 1879 in , Scott County, Virginia, . Margaret was born on 7 Nov 1859 in Scott County, , , Virginia; died on 26 Sep 1940 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Oak Hill Cemetary, , Washington County, Tennessee.     Mrs. Margaret E. Salyer, 82, late of Kingsport, died at the home of her son, Frank Salyer, in the Cedar Grove community. Milligan road, Johnson City, Tenn., at 4:40 a. m. today following a decline in health and serious illness for the past several weeks.

    She was a native of the Nickelsville community of Scott county, Va., and made her home there before moving to Kingsport about 18 years ago. For many year, she was a community leader in church and civic affairs, and was a member of the Baptist church. Her father was the late Daniel K. Shipley, and her mother before marriage was Lindy Cox. Both were members of pioneer families in this section.

    Among those surviving are two sons, S.F. Salyer, Johnson City, Tenn., and Daniel K. Salyer, Nickelsville. Va.; one daughter, Mrs. R.D. Hyder, Elizabethton, Tenn,; one sister, Mrs. Liddie Robinson, Indian Springs, Tenn., and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband, Flanders Salyer, died in 1931. Funeral services will be held from the home of S. Frank Salyer, Milligan road, Johnson City, Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. H.C. Bolton of Kingsport in charge. Burial will follow in Oak Hill, Norton, Va.
