JOHNSON CITY - Hugh A. Sullivan, 77, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2019 surrounded by family at his home. He was born in Butler, TN and was the son of the late Millard and Nellie Leonard Sullivan.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his brother, Mack Sullivan, sisters: Katie Shafer, Ruth Markland and her husband Mack; nephews: Stephen Markland, McDaniel Markland; and brother-in-law, Larry Smith.

Hugh was a native of Old Butler and rode the last bus out in 1948, when Watauga Lake was filled. He was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was the owner of Reman Distributors and co-owner of Carolina Clutch and Brake Rebuilders. Hugh enjoyed taking bus tours and attending car and tractor shows. He mostly loved spending time with his wife, daughter, and granddaughters. Hugh felt that his major accomplishment in life was when he came to know Jesus as his personal Savior. He was a charter member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish Hugh's memory include his loving wife of 57 years, Norma Faye Sullivan; their daughter, Tamara Day and her husband Tom; granddaughters: Ansley Tillett and her husband Brett, Leah Johnson and her husband Morgan; sister, Edythe Smith; sister-in-law, Carole Sullivan; special brother-in-law, Gene Harvell and his wife Dianne; special sister-in-law, Brenda Hardin; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sherry and David Pollock.

The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Forbush, Dr. Stephen Fry, Dr. Christopher Mathews, the Radiology Dept. at Holston Valley Medical Center, and the staff of Amedysis Hospice for the loving care provided to Hugh over the years.

The family will greet friends to share memories on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The family will honor Hugh's life at 2:30 pm during a Graveside service in the Mausoleum Chapel of Washington County Memory Gardens with Pastor Rich Murray, Morgan Johnson (Pastoral Resident, Hope Community Church, Nashville, TN), and Pastor James Cambron officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Harvell, Tom Day, David Pollock, Craig Owens, Wayne Browder, Robert Hughes, Richard Tittle, and members of Mountain View Baptist Church.

William married Fannie B. Dugger about 1908 in , Giles County, Tennessee, . Fannie (daughter of Joseph H. Dugger and Catharine Walker) was born in Jun 1880 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 13 Oct 1961 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee. Mrs. Fannie Leonard...
...77, Butler, died in Carter County Hospital, Elizabethton at 11:40 a.m. Friday following a brief illness.
A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Walker Dugger, and a member of Buffalo Valley Christian Church.
Her husband, Sherman Leonard, died in 1943. A daughter, Mrs. Rose Archer died in 1949.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Hugh Caldwell of Butler, Mrs. Bruce Bowman, Route 4, Johnson City; and Mrs. Millard Sullivan, Route 2, Johnson City; three sisters, Mrs. C.A. Miller, Route 2, Butler, Mrs. Claude Pearson, Route 2, Butler, and Mrs. Sam Young, Parkway Boulevard in Elizabethton; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the chapel at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Funeral[sic] Home in Elizabethton on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. R.B. Fowler and Rev. Ralph Hyder and the Rev. J.J. Richardson officiating.
Pallbearers were Jack Young, Elmer and Lawrence Pearson, Ray Miller, Mac and Hugh Allen Sulllivan, Joe Gregg, and Wiley Dugger.
Burial in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
