    BUTLER — Klan Butler “Jiggs” Pleasant, 79, 649 Old Highway 67, Butler, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at James H. Quillen V.A. Hospital. A lifelong resident of the Doevile Community, he was the youngest son of the “O.K.” Pleasant family. Jiggs was born May 29, 1925, to the late Roderick Butler and Vena Alice Pierce Pleasant. He was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church and retired as an electrician from North American Rayon Corporation. Mr. Pleasant served in the South Pacific in the Navy as a motor Mechanist. He received the Philippine Operation Medal, a Victory Bronze Star, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal during World War II. He served in the Johnson County Rescue Squad for twelve years. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Butler Pleasant; two sisters: Ola Kyte and Ova Stalcup; five brothers: Kyle, King, Karl, Kale and Keys Pleasant. Survivors include his wife, Faye Robinson Pleasant, of the home; two Daughters and Sons-In-Law: Diana and Earl Howard Jr., of Shady Valley, Evelyn and Mark Thomas, of Meadowview, VA.; four grandchildren: Wayne Thomas and wife, Guia; and Tuesday Pope and her husband, Nat, Randy Pleasant Jr. and Joseph Howard; One Sister: Ona Long, of Butler; Two Sisters-In-Law and One Brother-In-Law; Several Nieces and Nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2004, in the Little Doe Baptist Church with Rev. Kreg Smith and Dr. Willie Malone officiating. Music will be provided by the Church Choir. Pallbearers will be Truett Pleasant, Dick Pleasant, David Pleasant and Mike Pleasant. Honorary Pallbearers will be his Church Family, Friends and Neighbors. Graveside Services will follow at Rambo Cemetery with the Johnson County Honor Guard providing military honors. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service hour at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Little Doe Baptist Church Benevolent Fund or to the Johnson County Rescue Squad.

    PROMINENT DOEVILLE MAN DIES
    R. B. Pleasant, 53, prominent Johnson county merchant, died this morning at eight o'clock in a local hospital after a prolonged illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted from the Little Doe Baptist church at Doeville, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock with the Rev. John W. Crowe officiating. Interment will be in the Rambo cemetery.
    Mr. Pleasant, a native of Johnson County, was the son of W. H. and Martha L. Pleasant. On Feb. 1, 1906 he was married to Miss Vena Pierce, also of Johnson County.
    For the past 43 years he was in the mercantile business in that county, operating his own store for the past 35 years. Prior to that he was employed by Wright and Southerland of Mountain City, and Rambo and Pleasant of Doeville.
    A few years ago, Mr. Pleasant gained nationwide recognition as the father of the O. K. family, all of his daughters' names beginning with O. and containing three letters, while all of his sons' names begin with K and each contain four letters. Their pictures and accompanying stories were carried in many well-known newspapers in the country.
    Mr. Pleasant was affiliated with the Little Doe Baptist church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was one of the most influential citizens of his community and took active interest in all civic and religious affairs.
    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vena Pleasant; three daughters, Mrs. Ola Kyte, Mrs. Ova Stalcup and Miss Ola Pleasant of Doeville; six sons, Kyle Pleasant of Willits, Calif., King Pleasant of Dallas, Oregon, Karl, Kale, Keys and Klan Pleasant of Doeville; four sisters, Mrs. H. L. Nave of Elizabethton, Mrs. Julia Robinson, Mrs. R. A. Blevins, and Mrs. Myrtle Arnold of Doeville; three brothers, Walter Pleasant of Elizabethton, Hubert Pleasant and Clate Pleasant of Oregon; two half-sisters, Mrs. Rachael Robinson and Mrs. Sallie Robinson of Sweetwater; and one half-brother, Will Pleasant of Doeville.
    Active pallbearers will be Chester Davis, Ed Rainbolt, Roby Jones, Homer Stalcup, Olan Rambo and Bob Allen.
    Honorary pallbearers will include Harley Hopkins, Arvil Allen, Clay Davis, Guire Robinson, Wilder Arnold and W. J. Estep.
    Those who will care for the floral offerings will be Mrs. Callie Allen, Mrs. Bertha Rainbolt, Mrs. Maud Stout, Mrs. Argil Rambo, Misses Wanda McEwen, Grace Rainbolt, Elsie Davis, Arada Davis and Fred Davis.

    DEATHS
    Mrs. Vena Alice Pleasant, 79, of Rt. 3, Butler, died Monday, 8:10 p.m. at her residence after an illness of 18 months. She was a native of Johnson County, a daughter of the late Nelson and Cordia Mullins Pierce. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. B. Pleasant, who died Feb. 9, 1936, and a daughter, Ola Pleasant Kyte, who died Feb. 26, 1939. She was a member of the Little Doe Baptist Church.
    Survivors include six sons, Kyle, Karl, Kale, and Klan, all of Butler, King, Haywood, Calif., and Keys, Knoxville; two daughters, Mrs. Ona Gentry and Mrs. Ova Stalcup, both of Butler; two brothers, George Pierce and Joe Pierce, both of Mountain City; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, 2 p.m., from the Little Doe Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Biggar, and Rev. Warren Montgomery to officiate. Burial will be in the Rambo Cemetery.
    Pall-bearers[sic] will be grandsons.
    Flower-bearers will be ladies of the church and neighbors.
    Lewis Gentry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
