C. H. JORDAN DIES TODAY
Was Former Councilman, Life-long Resident
Although he had been in ill health for some time, the death of C. H. Jordan, age 81, who died at his home on East street this morning at 12:30 o'clock, came as a shock to his family and friends.
He was a member of the Methodist church and a native of Carter county. For a number of years he served as city alderman, and for thirty years was constable. He was a charter member of the Jr. O. U. A. M., Council No. 1, which will be in charge of the services at the grave.
Funeral rites will be conducted Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Freewill Baptist church with the Rev. Clarence Howington in charge, assisted by Judge W. R. Allen. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mattie Jordan; four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Markland, Mrs. Dan Cornett, Mrs. Mary Bishop of Elizabethton and Mrs. Florence Lowe of Mountain City; three sons, John, James and Will Jordan of Elizabethton; a number of grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be E. E. Hathaway, Spencer White, John Phonix, M. L. Carriger, Dan Perry, G. W. Ryan, G. H. Carriger, Ed Lowrance.
Cary married Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Fair on 25 Mar 1888 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Martha (daughter of George W. Pharr and Eliza J. Loveless) was born in Jul 1866 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died about 1952 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Highland Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.
