    Notes:

    Nina Williams Ellis, 79, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Elizabethton and was a daughter of the late Maynard and Hazel Philippi Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two nephews, Steve Peters and Mike Peters and a brother-in-law, Earnest Peters.

    Ms. Ellis loved to travel and in her younger years she enjoyed square dancing and bowling. She loved her dog and cats, spending time with her family and participating in the activities and worship at church, Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, where she was a member.

    Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Regina Isaacs and her husband, Phil, of Elizabethton; a son, Brian Ellis and his wife, Sherry, of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Miranda Isaacs, Chelsie Isaacs and Boone Ellis and his wife, Mattie; a great-grandchild, Lottie Ellis; a sister, Mary "Bootie" Peters, of Johnson City; and a niece, Melanie Peters, of Johnson City. Great- nieces, Lindsey Moy and Natasha Peters and great-nephews, Chris Peters, Hunter Peters and Adam Buck also survive.

    A service to honor life of Ms. Ellis will be conducted on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Mark Fowler and Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Greg Rustin, soloist and Mrs. Tawana Holland, pianist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from Noon – 1:00 PM on Saturday prior to the service, or at the home at other times.

    Interment will follow the funeral service at Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dean Pierce, Junior Stanley, Gordon Lewis, Shannon Burchett, Hunter Peters and Chris Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Garland, Bill Cline, Daniel Holder, Junior Campbell and Tommy Vaughn.

    Hazel V. Williams, 95, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2012, after an extended illness.

    She was born in Johnson County, Tenn., and lived most of her life in Carter County. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Mae Arnold Phillippi and the widow of Maynard Ray Williams, who died in 1968. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Peters, in 2005; a son-in-law, Earnest Peters, in 2008; and by four sisters and a brother.

    Mrs. Williams was retired from Watson's and enjoyed working in the garden and her flowers.

    Mrs. Williams was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church.

    Survivors include her two daughters, Mary "Bootie" Peters of Johnson City and Nina Ellis of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Steve Peters and wife Debbie, Melanie Peters, Brian Ellis and wife Sherry and Regina Isaacs and husband Phil; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Buck, Adam Buck, Hunter Peters, Natasha Peters, Chris Peters, Boone Ellis, Miranda Isaacs and Chelsie Isaacs; three sisters, Peggy Sisler, Frances Phillippi and Della Reece; two special nieces, Margaret Bourne of Elizabethton and Dottie Chapman of Florida; several other nieces and nephews; and special neighbors and friends, Rick and Robin Williams and Vernon and Luda Williams.

    The graveside service for Mrs. Williams will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charles Biggs officiating. Active pallbearers will be Adam Buck, Chris Peters, Hunter Peters and Boone Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Williams, Dave Ward and Charles Ensor. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

    AGED COUNTY CITIZEN DIES
    J. H. Williams, 91, Succumbs To Complications Of Old Age
    J. H. Williams, 91, one of the oldest and most prominent residents of Carter County, died at his home on Blue Spring Branch this morning at ten o'clock of complications.
    A former Carter County teacher, Mr. Williams received his education at what is now known as Milligan College and was a classmate of Alf, Bob and Hugh Taylor. He was a lifelong resident of the county, and led an active live until the past few years. For a number of years he served as a member of the board of education.
    He was the son of Capt. A. C. Williams of 13th Tennessee Infantry. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Hunter for the past fifty years.
    Survivors are two sons, A. C. and T. B. Williams; two daughters, Mrs. Red Nave of Siam and Mrs. Ethel Salyer of Knoxville; three brothers, D. C., Levi and R. J. Williams; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will probably be held Saturday afternoon from the home. Interment will be in the Buckles Cemetery.

    Funeral rites for J. H. Williams, 91, one of the oldest and most prominent life long residents of Carter County, who died Friday morning, will be conducted this afternoon at one o'clock at the Baptist Church in Hunter. Interment will be in the Buckles Cemetery.
    Survivors of the deceased are two sons, A. C. and T. B. Williams of Watauga Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Red Nave of Elizabethton and Mrs. Ethel Salyer of Knoxville; and three brothers, D. C., Lee and R. J. Williams all of Watauga Valley.

    DEATH TAKES W. R. MORRELL
    William Robert Morrell, 87, died at his home at Watauga Valley Sunday morning.
    Funeral services were conducted from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The final rites were in charge of the Rev. E. E. Hazelwood and the Rev. C. L. Bowden. Bruial was in the Wilson Cemetery.
    Survivors are the widow, Levica Crowe Morrell, and eight sons and daughters, Mrs. Julia Bowers, Bluff City; Mrs. Louisa Rutledge, Bluff City; Mrs. AIice Williams, Watauga Valley; Bradey C. Morrell, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Baxter Nave, Elizabethton; Mrs. Jennie Peters, Watauga; James Morrell, Watauga Valley; and Mrs. Clarence Wood, Beuna Vista, Va.; two brothers, Mose Morrell and Ike Morrell, both of Elizabethton; and one sister, Mrs. Maggie Stout, Johnson City.
    Mr. Morrell enlisted Sept. 22, 1863 in Company A, 13th Tennessee cavalry and was discharged Sept. 5, 1865.
    Pall bearers will be hobert Williams, Taylor Wilson, Canley McClure, Oscar R. Williams, Joseph W. Carrier, and David May.
    A military funeral will be conducted at the grave.

    A large crowd attended the funeral services for William Robert Morrell, 87, that were conducted from the home at Watauga Valley Monday afternoon. The final rites were in charge of the Rev. E. E. Hazelwood and the Rev. C. L. Bowden.
    Active pall bearers: Herbert Willaims, Taylor Wilson, Canley McClure, Oscar R. WilIiams, Joseph W. Carrier and David May.
    Flower bearers: Mesdames Bessie Williams, Hazel Williams, Grace Williams, Ollie White, Annie May, Maude Wilson, Emma Carrier, Minnie LaPort, Mae Nave, Elmer Lewis, Oddis Lewis, and Miss Nell Lewis.
