Betty C. Smith, 80, of Elizabethton TN passed away after an extended illness at the NCH Healthcare Center in Johnson City, TN.
Betty was born in Fish Springs, TN and resided most of her life in Elizabethton, TN
Betty attended East Side Baptist Church and Union Baptist Church
Betty was a longtime employee of Baxter Pharmaceutical. She loved to travel and tend to her flower gardens.
She was the daughter of the daughter of the late Stanley F. White and Mary Stout White.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded death by brothers: David White, Spencer White and Lonnie White and sister: Lorene Hudson Taylor.
Left to cherish her memory include: her son, Johnny N. Smith and wife Fredna; brother, Jerry White and wife Jean; sisters: Helen Barnett and husband James and Peggy Chambers; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was much loved by family, friends and neighbors.
A viewing for family and friends will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, TN. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m., in the Highland Cemetery, Elizabethton, TN with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating.

Thomas C. White was one of Carter County's most loyal citizens, and performed his duty well both as a citizen and as a soldier. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company G of the 13th Regiment, Tennessee Voluntary Cavalry[USA] on 28 Oct 1863 and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant 12 March 1865. He was with his company on every march and in every skirmish and battle in which it was engaged.He commanded the company on the long raid in pursuit of Jefferson Davis. After the war, he was elected in 1878 to serve as trustee[treasurer] of Carter county.His parents were Lawson H. White[1814-1849] and Mary Elizabeth Clark[1816-1880].On 14 August 1862 he married Mary Ann Smith in Carter County,Tennessee.Mary Ann was the daughter of Ezekial Smith[1811-1890] and Elizabeth Lacy[1817-1881].
