    ELIZABETHTON - Sherry Lynn Lipford Kyte, age 71, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at her residence.

    She was born to Glenn (Buster) Lipford and Margaret Peters Lipford Edens on July 17, 1947, in Johnson County, TN, but lived most of her life in Carter County. She was proceeded in death by her parents, grandparents, Earl and Pearl Lipford of Butler, and Elijah and Ellen Eggers Peters of Elizabethton and two aunts, Ruth Lipford Williams and Mildred Peters Hart.

    Sherry was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, Class of 1965. She worked at Sears for eight and one-half years and retired from Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank after thirty-nine and one-half years.

    She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-three years, James Russell Kyte; a devoted son, David Glen Kyte, Elizabethton, TN; her favorite granddaughter, Taylor Jules Kyte, Charlotte, NC; one sister, Glenda (Wayne) Treadway, Dandridge, TN; one nephew, William Glenn Treadway, Murray, KY; cousin/sister, Sue Carol (Darrell) Ward, Butler, TN and many cousins.

    Sherry was also blessed with a large family of Kyte-in-laws, whom she loved dearly; special friends, Sherry Maines and Ginny McGee; her Sims Hill Christian Church family; members of The Followers Sunday School Class and special Elizabethton Federal Bank family.

    Special caregivers to Sherry were Teresa Phipps, Linda Henry, Shoddie Kyte, Sherry Maines, Ginny McGee, Debbie Reeser, Sue Carol Ward and Glenda Treadway.

    Sherry was an active member of Sims Hill Christian Church where she served on several committees including the Youth Committee. She taught children to love Jesus for over fifty years. Being a witness for Jesus was her passion and her faith in Jesus never wavered. She was a strength to all and set an awesome example to her family and friends on how to live for Jesus and love others on a daily basis.

    A service to honor the life of Sherry Lynn Lipford Kyte will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 6, 2018 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Bret Jones, minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Lisa Carter. The family will receive friends at the funeral from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 7, 2018 in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jamie Ward, William Treadway, Mark Henry, Jason Kyte, Brian Kyte, Jake Johnson, Ricky Kyte and David Kyte. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Kyte, Don Kyte, Charles Phipps, Dennis Kyte, Mack Henry, Steve Kyte, Wayne Treadway and Darrell Ward.

    Mrs. Edens had lived most of her life in Elizabethton. She was retired from Pharmacil-Baxter Corporation in Johnson City and was presently employed as a Food Sampler at Food City. She was a member of West Side Christian Church and the Women's Fellowship Sunday School Class where she had served as president for several years.

    Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at Memorial Funeral Chapel.

    Graveside services and interment were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Vada Pearl Lipford, 50, of Carderview, who died in Duke Hospital, Durham, North Carolina, Monday morning, will be conducted at the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, of which she was a member, Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. M. H. Carder officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. L. Nelson. Burial will be in the Butler Memorial Cemetery.
    Active pallbearers will be members of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge number 679.
    Flower bearers will be members of her Sunday School class of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.
    Survivors are her husband, Rupert Earl Lipford; one daughter, Mrs. Jim Williams of Route 5, Elizabethton; one son, Glenn Lipford of Carderview; two sisters, Cecil Walsh of Elizabethton and Mrs. Will Lewis of Hampton; two brothers, Bert Walsh of Charleston, S.C., and Obbie Walsh of Elizabethton, and her father, George Walsh.
    The body will be taken to her home today at 4:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home.

    A holiday hunting trip for Anthony Abraham (Linkard) Lipford, age 81, one of Johnson county's most entusiastic fox hunters, and his son, Dana, yesterday ended in the tragic death of the elder LIPFORD in an automobile accident.

    Mr. Lipford was struck by an automobile driven by a Butler serviceman home on leave, at 10 o'clock last Wednesday morning as he attempted to cross the Mountain City highway about one-half mile from his home.

    The aged man's son said he was partly across the road, but turned back when he saw the automobile approaching. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, Elizabethton, and never regained consciousness before he died as a result of a skull fracture, attending physicians said. The two men were enroute to Holston Mountain for a hunting trip.

    Mr. Lipford was a charter member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ellen Lipford of Butler; one daughter, Mrs. F. M. LIPFORD of Butler; five sons, Oscar Lipford of Rte. 1 Elizabethton; Tine, Dana, Earl, and Claude Lipford, all of Butler; two brothers, Joe Lipford of Caysville and Arch L. Lipford of Butler; three sisters, Mrs. Mollie HARDIN and Mrs. Etta HEATON of Elizabethton, and Mrs. Litha COCHRAN of Fordtown; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services were conduected from Cobbs Creek Baptist Church last Friday afternoon at 2:00 with Rev. M. H. Carder and Rev. Clarence Nelson officiating. Burial was in the Cobbs Creek cemetery.

    Mrs. Ellen Lipford, 95, died at Carter County Memorial Hospital at 5:15 p.m. Saturday following a brief illness.
    Mrs. Lipford was making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Lipford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lincoln Lipford, in Dec. 1946, and a son, Oscar Lipford, in Dec. 1960.
    Survivors include four sons, Dana, Tine, Claude, and Earl Lipford, all of Butler; one daughter, Mrs. Verda Matherly of Butler; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 p.m. from the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Hyder and Rev. H.B. Cox officiating. Music was under the direction of Rev. Ben Wood.
