Notes: Mrs. Lena Kate DeLoach Miller, 76, died on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Johnson County, Mrs. Miller was born on October 10, 1928, to the late Joseph Alexander & Dove Cleo DeLoach. A lifelong resident of Johnson City, Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of Grandview Christian Church. She loved gardening, painting, and flower arranging. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Jones & her husband, Tom, of Anchorage, AK; Pamela Reed of Johnson City and her fiancé, Dennis Stitt, of Bristol, TN; and Carol Newland & her husband, John, of Chattanooga; her sons, Peter Miller & his fiancé, Laura Ramirez, of Yorktown, VA; Jonathan Miller & his wife, Sheila, of Johnson City; and David Miller of Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Mark Jones, Brian Jones, Sarah Jones, Jason Reed, Lane Reed, Elyse Newland, Mandy Miller, and Jessica Miller; a great-grandson, Cameron Miller; her sisters, Marie Baxley of San Jose, CA; Hazel Beard of Vacaville, CA; Lois Isenberg of Johnson City; and Lucy Beckham of Knoxville; her brother, Max DeLoach of Johnson City; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Miller in 1992, and four brothers, Pete DeLoach, Samuel Carter DeLoach, Mike DeLoach, and Jack DeLoach. A committal service for Mrs. Lena Kate Miller will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Pastor Cass Farrior officiating. The family will receive friends from 6– 8 PM, Monday, in the Sunset Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services. Pallbearers will be Shannon Earp, Mike Kuziola, Craig DeLoach, John Newland, Joe DeLoach, and Jason Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Stitt, Joe Reed, Michael DeLoach, David Millsap, and Jesse Crooks. 6. | Joseph Alexander DeLoach was born on 6 Dec 1884 in Carden's Bluff, , Carter County, Tennessee (son of Samuel Carter DeLoach and Martha Louisa Garrison); died on 28 Feb 1961 in Memorial Hospital, , Johnson City, Tennessee; was buried on 1 Mar 1961 in Oak Hill Cemetary, Johnson City, Washington County, Tennessee. Notes: Joe DeLoach was a lumberjack, saw mill operator and woodsman. When he was in his early 20's (in about 1905), he travelled to Oregon to work in the Redwood groves. For reasons unknown, he worked instead on a cattle ranch in Dallas, Oregon. In conversations with his son J.A. Mike DeLoach, he stated that he learned to break-in new broncos, and did all the normal work of a ranch hand. He said that on most days, he could see Mount Hood off to the east. He returned to East Tennessee in about 1909. It was said that he was probably the best horse rider in Johnson County, and that if anyone one had problems busting in a new horse, they would call on him. Notes: Samuel Carter DeLoach grew up in Carter County, Tennessee. Ha and his family moved to Johnson County, TN on 1 Sep 1881. He was a farmer, a carpenter, and a Baptist minister. He was one of the first ministers at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church in Butler, Johnson County, Tennessee. He was a minister at the Pleasant Home Baptist Church near Laurel Bloomery, and took part in the construction of that Church. His Johnson County home was in Campbell Hollow, near Doeville. His daughter, Celia, her husband Johnny Heaton, and their family lived with Samuel for several years. His youngest son, Joseph Alexander, his wife Dovie C. Williams Arnold, and their family lived there at the time of his death, and they inherited the property. Samuel and his wife Louisa Garrison are buried in a small family cemetery on a hill overlooking the place where their house once stood. Samuel married Martha Louisa Garrison on 27 Jan 1865 in Carter County, , , Tennessee.
