James Ray Boone

James "Jim" Boone, age 75, of Spruce Pine, formally of 192 Jim Boone Road in Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 6th, 2014 at Missons Campus. A native of Bakersville, he was a son of the late Charles and Catherine Conley Boone and the husband of Gloria Hill Boone who passed away in May of 2014. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jake Boone; sisters: Jean Boone and Juanita West. He was the 5th generation of the Daniel Boone family. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved his dogs, Sherman and Tux, and enjoyed NASCAR Racing, football and basketball. Jim was a kind and gentle man and would do anything for anyone and was always there when you needed him.

Surviving is his daughters: Suzanne Greene and husband, Nick, of Spruce Pine and Kimberly Boone and fiancé, Jarrett, of Marion; step-daughters: April Parker of Hickory and Lisa Hughes of Spruce Pine; step-son, Gary Hughes and wife, Becky, of Double Island; brother, Hugh Boone and wife, Geneva, of Bakersville; and sister, Jo Ruth Boone; eight grandchildren: Amber Greene, Jeremy Greene, Holly Parker, Clay Parker, Brandon Ray, Samantha Molina, Fabian Hughes and Nicholas McKinney; nine great-grandchildren: Kaydenze, Connor, Hayden, Kaedence, Gracie, Cameron, Tavian, Jordon and Kenia. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Charles married Catharine Nanny Conley on 17 Sep 1938 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina. Catharine was born on 27 Mar 1906 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina; died on 24 May 2003 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina; was buried in Lily Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, , Mitchell County, North Carolina. BAKERSVILLE - Catherine Nannie Boone, 97, of the Lily Branch community, died Saturday, May 24, 2003 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Beatrice Fortner Conley, and wife of the late Charlie Boone. She and Charlie were married September 17, 1938. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Boone. She was a member of Lily Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Jim Boone of Bakersville; one daughter, Juanita Hamilton West of Chevy Chase, MD; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Monday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Rev. Steve Williams
officiated. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday in Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, 284 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine,

Catherine was previously married to Edgar Sherod Hamilton They were married on February 21, 1930 in Bakersville, N. C. Edgar was a bookkeeper. His father was William C. Hamilton from Palestine, Texas where Edgar was born. His mother's name was Thersa Henn and she was born in Georgia. Edgar died in Bakersville on April 24, 1937 and buried at Lilly Branch Cemetery on April 26, 1937

Garrett married Sarah Emma Fortner on 16 Sep 1883 in , Yancey County, , North Carolina. Sarah was born on 15 Oct 1864 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina; died on 3 Sep 1943 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina; was buried in Lily Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, , Mitchell County, North Carolina.
