Benjamin Harrison Taylor, Jr.

Notes:

Harrison Taylor ended his earthly travels on Saturday the 12th of August, in Memphis, where he had moved in 2016 to be close to his daughter and her family. Dr. Taylor was a descendant of the storied Tennessee Taylors, the grandson of Governor Alfred A. Taylor, and the youngest son of Ben and Lela (Ramsey) Taylor. He found his calling in the ministry, teaching Bible at Lees-McCrae in Banner Elk, North Carolina, later completing his dissertation on John Calvin at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.

Over the course of his 92 years, he served in many pastoral capacities, including as minister of St. Andrews Presbyterian church in Beaumont, Texas. He assisted in the efforts of the church to understand the issues of the day as part of the Presbyterian (PCA) General Assembly's Council on Theology and Culture, administered adult education and retreat activities at Mo-Ranch in the Texas Hill Country, and acted as interim minister for numerous far-flung churches during their pastoral search process. In his later years, Harrison returned home to East Tennessee, and most recently lived at Cornerstone Village in Johnson City.

A celebration of his life will be held at Jonesborough Presbyterian Church on September 23rd, 2017 at 3 p.m.

Alfred married Florence Jane "Jenny" Anderson on 22 Jun 1881 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Florence (daughter of John Augusts Anderson and Mary Ann Jones) was born on 10 Jul 1866 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 13 Feb 1943 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Monte Vista Memorial Park, , Washington County, Tennessee. Reverend married Emily Emma Haynes in Jan 1844 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Emily (daughter of David Haynes and Rhoda Ann Taylor) was born about 1822 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; died about 1900. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

JNO. A. ANDERSON - JOHNSON CITY, May 15. – Jno. A. Anderson, of Buffalo, Carter county, died today of liver complaint, at his home, aged sixty-five years. Mr. Anderson was one of the best farmers and traders in upper East Tennessee and had accumulated a large landed estate in Unicoi, Carter and Washington counties, the bulk of which he deeded during his life time to his six children. His only daughter, Jennie, is the wife of Congressman A. A. Taylor.
