Article of Agreement, 19 Aug 1957, Washington Co VA

"Article of Agreement made and entred into on the ninteenth of August
1857 between Loucinda Cunningham widow of Joseph Cunningham Deceased of
the one part and John Riddle of the other part both of the County of
Washington and State of Virginia witnesseth the said Loucinda Cunningham
doth agree and rent her portion of land in the tract were Joseph
Cunningham deceased for a term of eighteen month cumencing on the first
of September next and to end the first of March 1859 the said Riddle
pays one third of the grain as a rent the wheat and oats to be delivered
at a pen or sack when gethered to secure that part of the rent the corn
to be delivred at the crib in the husk to be devided in three parts so I
Loucinda Cunningham may take her choice of piles. the said Riddle is to
live in the house with me till Robert Cunningham move out of the house
he is a livin in now then the said Ridlle moves into the said house.
The said Riddle is to have a peace of ground for a garden sumewheres
where partys may agree upon. The said Lucind Cuningham reserves a
garden for herself. Margaret Cuningham reserves about an acre of ground
for herself lying in the suger camp where Robert Cuningham had oats.

The said Loucinda Cuningham reserves ground enuff sum where on said
tract of land to sow a bushel of flax seed.

The said Riddle is to put up three hundred new rails on his own hook and
to clear a little peace of ground on his own hook. The said Riddle
binds himself to put the crop in reasonably time and to cultivate the
same in farming like mannor. The said Riddle is to have a potion of the
fruit and Loucinda Cuningham reserves a part for her self

to which we set our hand and seales this the 19 day of August 1857.
