Notes: BECKHAM, LEWIS H. — born in Grainger County on June 16, 1920, he passed away at home on Thursday, July 7, 2005. Lewis served in the US Army during World War II. He retired from KUB and was a member of Alice Bell Baptist Church. Preceded in death by: parents, Coy and Georgia Beckham; brothers, George and Bruce Beckham; sister, Helen Rogers. Survivors: wife, Lucy DeLoach Beckham; sons, Dr. L. Steven Beckham and wife Jacquie, Danny R. Beckham and wife Barbara, all of Lafayette, Ind.; grandchildren, Jennifer Beckham Erickson and husband Scott, Carrie Beckham Strub and husband Michael, Gabriel Beckham, Maggie Wright and husband Josh, Linda Beckham, and Carter Beckham; great granddaughter, Lucy Erickson; special brother, Charles Beckham and wife Dorothy; sisters, Anna Mae Hipsher and husband David, Maureen Moyers and husband J.P., Judy Marsh, Alma (Beck) Starnes and husband J. Carroll; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alice Bell Baptist Church/Piano Fund, 3305 Alice Bell Road, Knoxville 37917. Following visitation on Sunday, family and friends will go in procession to Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 3:00 p.m. graveside service and interment with Rev. Toby Everette officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2005 at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at N. Broadway. Notes: Joe DeLoach was a lumberjack, saw mill operator and woodsman. When he was in his early 20's (in about 1905), he travelled to Oregon to work in the Redwood groves. For reasons unknown, he worked instead on a cattle ranch in Dallas, Oregon. In conversations with his son J.A. Mike DeLoach, he stated that he learned to break-in new broncos, and did all the normal work of a ranch hand. He said that on most days, he could see Mount Hood off to the east. He returned to East Tennessee in about 1909. It was said that he was probably the best horse rider in Johnson County, and that if anyone one had problems busting in a new horse, they would call on him. He worked at and operated saw mills in the following locations: Schyler Hollow - 1* miles from Campbell Hollow up Doe Creek. Doe Creek - * mile below Rambo's Mill. Notes: Samuel Carter DeLoach grew up in Carter County, Tennessee. Ha and his family moved to Johnson County, TN on 1 Sep 1881. He was a farmer, a carpenter, and a Baptist minister. He was one of the first ministers at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church in Butler, Johnson County, Tennessee. He was a minister at the Pleasant Home Baptist Church near Laurel Bloomery, and took part in the construction of that Church. His Johnson County home was in Campbell Hollow, near Doeville. His daughter, Celia, her husband Johnny Heaton, and their family lived with Samuel for several years. His youngest son, Joseph Alexander, his wife Dovie C. Williams Arnold, and their family lived there at the time of his death, and they inherited the property. Samuel and his wife Louisa Garrison are buried in a small family cemetery on a hill overlooking the place where their house once stood. Samuel married Martha Louisa Garrison on 27 Jan 1865 in Carter County, , , Tennessee.
