Adell Deloach, age 95, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, North Carolina, on Friday, January 15, 2010.

She was the daughter of the late Gaston and Ellen Shaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Deloach; two infant sons; and four sisters and four brothers.

Adell was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening where she had a green thumb. She loved shopping but her greatest joy was her family.

Survivors include: three daughters, Linda Anderson and husband Jim of Granite Falls, NC; Norma Stanbery, of Talbott, TN; Judy Owens and husband, Clyde, of Mountain City, TN; one son, John Sam Deloach and companion, Beverly, of Miami, FL; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Adell Deloach will be Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel, Hux-Lipford-Teague Funeral Home with minister Mike Smith officiating. Eulogy to be delivered by Great-Granddaughter, Olivia Owens.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2010, at Sunset Memorial Park, Mountain City, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be Jesse Osborne, Steve Owens, Matthew Scott, Shawn Gentry, Clyde Owen, Michael Stanbery and Harold Wexler. Honorary pallbearer will be Tom Church.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.

At other times friends may call on the family at the home of her daughter, Judy Owens and husband, Clyde, at 5151 Forge Creek Road, Mountain City, TN.

Grindstaff. 25 years in the community. this is a three-room boxed house owned by Jesse Grindstaff, Mrs. DeLoach is supported by her daughter, Mildred who works at NARC. Mrs. DeLoach died during the interim period.

Mrs. Ellen Shaw, 67, died at her home, Route 1, Neva, Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. after a three weeks illness. She was a lifetime resident of Johnson County and a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, T. Gaston Shaw; four sons, Luther of Elizabethton, J. B. of Johnson City, Clay of Hugheston, West Va., Clarence of Jewell Ridge, Va.; five daughters, Mrs. John Church of Big Stone Gap, Va., Mrs. John Marsh of Elizabethton, Mrs. J. C. Hodge of Bluff City, Mrs. Sam DeLoach of Neva and Mrs. Dewey Wilson of Saltsville, West Va.; 40 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; the step-mother, Mrs. Mary Blackburn of Butler; one sister, Mrs. Alice Wiles of Davenport, Washington; one half-sister, Mrs. Ina Holloway of Elizabethton and two half-brothers, Hill and Bob Blackburn of Butler.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Pine Grove Baptist Church Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Campbell officiating, assisted by the Rev. Roby Stout. Burial will be in the Brown Cemetery.

Samuel Carter DeLoach grew up in Carter County, Tennessee. Ha and his family moved to Johnson County, TN on 1 Sep 1881. He was a farmer, a carpenter, and a Baptist minister. He was one of the first ministers at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church in Butler, Johnson County, Tennessee. He was a minister at the Pleasant Home Baptist Church near Laurel Bloomery, and took part in the construction of that Church. His Johnson County home was in Campbell Hollow, near Doeville. His daughter, Celia, her husband Johnny Heaton, and their family lived with Samuel for several years. His youngest son, Joseph Alexander, his wife Dovie C. Williams Arnold, and their family lived there at the time of his death, and they inherited the property. Samuel and his wife Louisa Garrison are buried in a small family cemetery on a hill overlooking the place where their house once stood.

John H. "Chimney Builder"'s father, Isaac Grindstaff, died when
John was just four years old. John was taken in by John and Easter
Heaton Stout to be reared. Easter Heaton was John H. Grindstaff's aunt,
the sister of his mother, Mary Heaton. Johnson County Court Records
show that John Stout and Easter Heaton were married on 08 Mar 1838.
John married first Clara Arney, and the Grindstaff Family are the direct
Descendents of Clara. After Clara died about 1891, Mary Stout, the daughter of
John and Easter Heaton Stout, moved in with John "Chimney Builder" Grindstaff.
John and Mary were cousins. There is no record available of their
marriage, however, no children were born to this union.

Note: The census and marriage records do not support the above family lore from Albert Grindstaff. Mary Emily Stout, the daughter of John and Easter Stout and from Tennessee, married Alexander Elihu Shown on 9 Apr 1876. They were still married in 1900. Javan Michael DeLoach
