James then married Pherube Rosana Haynes (or Hawkins) on 10-16-1847. She was born 10-8-1827 and died 11-28-1917. Their children were Martha C 8-19-1848, John W 9-15-1850, Joseph D 11-20-1853, Mary E 10-18-1856, Celia H 5-5-1861, William J 1-10-1867, and David Grant Matherly 7-3-1870.
