(Medical):Lost eyesight in one eye. Always had asthma. Was very petite and sickly all her life.

    Mellie V. Gipson on tombstone.

When Mellie's husband, Ed Willis died, her father went to Oklahoma in a wagon to bring her & her children home with him to Willow Springs Community, Athens, Henderson Co., Texas. Fording the Red River in a wagon was a jolting experience for her. Told by grandson Lionel Duncan.

Aunt Mell was a very small lady, who had many health problems such as asthma and severe eye problems. Before her life ended, one eye was removed. She was either allergic to milk problems, or she detested them. She ate peanut butter for butter. Her hair was very thin and she wore a bonnet or baseball cap in the summer and a toboggan in the winter. At the time she lived, hats were the style, so she wore them to town, church etc. Thoughts by LaVerne (Mutt) Williams Rodgers.
