6. | George Moody was born about 1778 in Amherst County, , , Virginia (son of Thomas Moody and Sarah Ann Elizabeth Defoe); died before 1870 in , Watauga County, North Carolina, North Carolina. Notes: Michael J. Watts has done extensive research on the Moody family. In his Article 241 in the Heritage of Watauga County, he states: 'The earliest Moody ancestors to settle in what is now Watauga County apparently came to this area from Virginia. They seem to have come first in the late 1780's to an area in (then) Burke (now Caldwell) County near the present Watauga County line. Some remained in Burke and in what later became Caldwell, but others moved into Ashe (now Watauga) to the present Valle Crucis and Foscoe area between 1800 and 1815. these early Moodys may have been descendants of one Thomas Moody and his wife Ann, who emigrated from England to the area of Jamestown, Weyanoke Parish, Charles City County, Virginia, in the late 1600's or early 1700's. The descendants of this Thomas are known to have settled in Virginia, South Carolina, and the southwestern North Carolina mountain counties of Buncombe, Haywood and Cherokee. However, no definite connection has been made to between Moodys of Northwestern North Carolina and those descended from this Thomas Moody. Perhaps the earliest Watauga Moody about whom we have definite information is Edward Moody. He was born about 1756/7 in Albemarle (later Fluvanna) County, Virginia. His father may have been Thomas Moody, Sr. (born ca 1732), althogh this has not been established with certainty..... Another early Moody was George, who seems to have come into this area about the same time as Edward. The exact relationship between George and Edward is not yet known. They may indeed have been brothers, perhaps sons of Thomas Moody, Sr., or may have been cousins, or nephew and uncle....'
