HOBBS, N.M. — James Calvin Ritchie, 90, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, in Hobbs. Jim, born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on November 12, 1932, is the second son of Nannie Josephine and Harry Roscoe Ritchie. Following a family move to Kingsport, Tenn., he attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and joined the Navy with training at Great Lakes Naval Base. Upon leaving military duty, he attended East Tennessee State University where he began work with the campus radio station, which marked his lifelong interest in broadcast media and journalism. After relocating to Texas, Jim became the owner/editor of the Celina Record and the Frisco Enterprise and became an avid photographer. He was known for his quirky sense of humor, love of family, and his passionate Christian faith. Jim enjoyed weekly fellowship with his Tuesday morning coffee buddies and Wednesday morning breakfast group. He loved to play board games with friends and solitaire at bedtime. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marie Ritchie; his brothers, Ros Ritchie and Kim Ritchie; his sister, Cassandra Forth; and his children, Sheryl Shepherd, Brent Ritchie, Kimberly Ritchie Diaz, Scott Ritchie, Stacey Kluthe, Blaik Ritchie, Chase Galanakis, Kathryn Trammell and Zachary Ritchie. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Bill Petree and Jana Nelson. He was a proud grandparent to 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Harry married Nannie Josephine Miller on 22 Aug 1928 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee. David married Ruth Belle Murray on 3 Dec 1905 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Ruth (daughter of Thomas Clayton Murray and Delila Davis) was born on 14 Jun 1884 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; died on 5 Dec 1984 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee. Mrs. D.E. Ritchie dies at age 100

Mrs. Belle Murray Ritchie, 100, 402 East "C" St., Elizabethton, died Wednesday morning in the Carter County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

A native of Washington County, she was the daugher of the late Thomas Clayton and Delila Davis Murray. Mrs. Ritchie was preceded in death by her husband, David Elbert Ritchie, in 1950, a former school teacher and Register of Deeds in Carter County for 20 years, by a son, Teddy Glen Ritchie, in 1960, and by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Kate Ritchie Payne in 1974.

Mrs. Ritchie was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she had been an active member in the Hattie Kane Sunday School Class and Circle No. 1 of the United Methodist Women until poor health curtailed her activities in January of 1984.

Survivors include three daughters, Miss Pauline Ritchie of the home, Mrs. Carl M. (Kathleen) Bowers, Rt. 7, Elizabethton, and Mrs. Raymond W. (Emma Jean) Roddy, Division St., Elizabethton; and four sons, Ralph X. Ritchie, Echo Dr., Elizabethton, H. Roscoe Ritchie, 586 Bloomindale Pike, Kingsport, Elbert C. Ritchie, 1248 Grand Highway, Clermont, Fla., and Sam Q. Ritchie, 513 Allen Avenue Extension, Elizabethton. Twenty-one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
