Gary Dan Hatley, 55, 154 Sarah Anna Drive, Johnson City, was escorted by the Angels into the hands of God at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a Carter County native. He was employeed by GDS Waste Management in Boone, North Carolina for 22 years. He was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Chris, his father Clifford "Buckeye" Hatley and his best friend and brother Michael. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his mother and step-father with whom he made his home, Kathleen Potter Hatley Hodges and Roy Reece Hodges. Four Sisters: Betty Hatley, Johnson City, Glenda Smith, Boone, NC, Kathy Jo Phillips, Vilas, North Carolina and Janice Shephard, Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Randy Hatley and Denny Hatley. Two Grandchildren: Dustin & McKinsey Hatley, Several Nieces & Nephews and Uncles.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Greene officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lakeview Cemetery. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12 Noon Friday will be: Jim Phillips, Travis Phillips, Donnie Fletcher, Buddy Bowling, Shaun Shepard and Chad Allen.

Kathleen Potter Hatley Hodges, 87, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at her residence.

She was born to the late David Carter Potter and Hattie McElyea Potter in the old town of Butler, TN. At the age of 12, their family home was taken when the Watauga Lake was built. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hodges.

She was known as a sweet, generous, kind, loving woman who loved her family. She worked very hard in her life, raising eight children during hard times. She, however, considered herself a blessed person. She loved to bake, decorate and clean her home. Kathleen also had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing gospel songs and going to church. Most of all, she loved her Lord.

Kathleen worked at the Glove Plant in Mountain City, the IRC/TRW in Boone, NC, and the Chetola Resort, Blowing Rock, NC.

Kathleen was preceded in death by seven sisters; Ethel, Eula, Mildred, Doris, Ruth, Betty and Dorothy; three brothers, Bud, Marion, and James. She was first married to Clifford Dan Hatley "Buckeye Hatley." They had eight children: Betty, Gary, Michael (Wuzzy), Susie, Janice, Kathy Jo, Randy and Denny. She later married Roy Hodges and had one stepson Kelly Hodges from Foscoe, NC. She had 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Kathleen will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, TN with Rev. Ray Greene and Pastor Eric Cornett officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.

A graveside service and interment will follow at the Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

JOHN ARNOLD
John Arnold, 83, died Saturday, Mar. 31, at his home at Carderview after a short illness.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Minnie Hatley of Carderview, Mrs. Pearl Triplett and Mrs. Eddie Griffin, both of Erwin, Mrs. Rub Leach of Jonesboro, and Mrs. Vertie Black of Johnson City; five sons, Rhudy Arnold of Carderview, Gene and Howard Arnold of Jonesboro, Arvil Arnold of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Tom Arnold of Elizabethton; one brother and one sister; 55 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

MRS. IDA ARNOLD
Mrs. Ida Arnold Stanberry Arnold, 63, died at her home near Butler Saturday morning after a prolonged illness. Funeral services will be conducted from the home tomorrow morning at ten o'clock; interment will be in the Stanberry cemetery.
Survivors are her daughters, Mrs. Minnie Heatley, Mrs. Verdie Black, Mrs. Pearl Tripplett, Mrs. Eddie Griffin, Miss Ruby Arnold; and five sons, Tom, Gene, Howard, Rudy and Arnold.
She had been a member of the Elk Mills Baptist church for several years.
