1. | Nyoka Oliver was born about 1943 in , Carter County, Tennessee, (daughter of Living and Living); died on 29 Jan 2023 in , Carter County, Tennessee, ; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, Carter County, Tennessee, . Notes: Nyoka Shelburne, 80, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at her home. Nyoka was born in Elizabethton to the late Earl Albert Oliver and Mary Lee (Wright) Folsom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Silas Shelburne; her daughter, whom she missed terribly, Kathy Jo Shelburne; a sister, Joann (Tom) Vinson; a brother, Warren Oliver; two nephews, Mike Pierce and Richard Shelburne; two sisters-in-law, Freida Oliver and Carol (Bobby) Smith; and a brother-in-law, Bill Shelburne. Nyoka was a wonderful lady and very intelligent. She had been employed within the Senate as an administrative assistant and was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. Nyoka loved sun-tanning and being by the pool. She also enjoyed playing poker, playing cards with her granddaughter, and reading. Nyoka leaves behind a legacy of beauty and faith and a love for all that were blessed to know her. Those left to remember and cherish Nyoka’s many precious memories include her daughter, Debbie Mariano of Elizabethton; her granddaughter, Jessie Shaffer of Harrisburg, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Juleyan and Madelyn Shaffer; her sister, Loretta (Dean) Pierce of Elizabethton; three brothers, Albert (Patty) Oliver, Richard (Phyllis) Oliver and Charles Oliver, all of Elizabethton; and five “surrogate” daughters, Carla, Lisa, Cindy, Gina and Bobbie. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbors also survive. A service to celebrate Nyoka’s life will be conducted at noon on Saturday, February 4, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Mark Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. |

4. | Charles C. Oliver was born on 22 Nov 1884 in Carter County, , , Tennessee (son of George W. Oliver and Eliza C. Hinkle); died on 25 Sep 1963 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Wilson Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. Notes: Charlie Oliver, age 78, of Route 5, Elizabethton, died in King's Mountain Convalescent Home, Bristol, VA., Wednesday evening, following an illness of five months. He was formerly a guard at the State Penitentiary, Petros, Tenn., a magistrate and deputy Sheriff in Carter County for 16 years, also Clerk and Master for the County. He was a member of the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. A Native and live long resident of this county, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Bowers Oliver in 1940. Survivors include three daughters, Miss Grace Oliver, 418 N. Main Street, Elizabethton; Mrs. Sophia Hardin, Route 5, Elizabethton; and Mrs. Ama White, 110 S. Pine Street, Elizabethton; one son, Albert E. Oliver, 112 W. Riverside Drive, Elizabethton; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, on great great grandchild also survives. 5. | Mary Alice "Mollie" Bowers was born on 18 Aug 1877 in Carter County, , , Tennessee (daughter of William A. Bowers and Mary (Bowers)); died on 8 Nov 1940 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Wilson Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. Notes: Mrs. Mollie Oliver, 65, wife of Charles Oliver, deputy sheriff and member of the equalization board of Carter county, died at the family residence at Watauga Valley last night at 6:30, after a brief illness. Surviving are her husband, Charles Oliver; three daughters, Mrs. Sophia Hardin, and the Misses Grace and Amy Oliver; one son, Earl; one sister, Miss Josie Bowers, and one brother, Dan Bowers, all of Watauga Valley. Funeral services will be held from the Baptist church at Watauga Valley Sunday morning at 11:00 o'clock. Rev. D. R. Kilgore and Rev. E. J. Bramlett will officiate. Burial in the Wilson Cemetery.
