    Larry Keith Hathaway, 74, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2022, surrounded by his wife and son at his residence. Larry was born in Elizabethton on October 5, 1947 to the late Ralph and Ruby Marie (White) Hathaway. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Leonard Johnson.
    Larry had worked for the Department of Transportation for 38 years and was a United States Army veteran. He was a kind, loving man with a great sense of humor. He was known to be quite a jokester and enjoyed boating and fishing.
    Larry was of the Baptist faith.
    Those left to cherish Larry’s memory include his beloved wife of 52 years, Peggy Hathaway; his son, Jody Hathaway; a sister, Carol Hicks; his brother-in-law, Gary Johnson; his mother-in-law, Mary D. Johnson; two nieces, Lori Ann Stout and Shana Price; and a great-nephew, Clayton Burton.
    A graveside service to celebrate Larry’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 11, in the Johnson Family Cemetery (Big Springs Road). The family will provide a eulogy.

    Son of John Williams Hathaway [1849-1903] and Julia Meredith [1860-1888].On 27 March 1903 he enlisted in the 14th Cav [USA] for a 3 year hitch at Fort Grant, Arizona.He was discharged 26 March 1906 at the Presidio in Northern California.He then returned home to Tennessee and married Bessie Rowena Jane Campbell in Carter County on 11 April 1906 and raised a family there.
