- ELIZABETHTON — Edgar Church, 83, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010, in the Hermitage Health Care Center of Elizabethton.
He was a native of Avery County, NC, but had lived in Johnson City most of his life. Mr. Church was a son of the late Marion and Hildred Lewis Church and was a member of the Johnson City Church of God.
He was a retired Greens keeper, having worked for the Johnson City Country Club, Pine Oaks and the Buffalo Valley Golf Courses. Mr. Church was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served his country during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Wanda Bowman Church, in May 2003; a daughter, Pamela Louise Church; a son-in-law, Jackie Keene; also several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include ten children, Mickey Church and his wife, Claudia, Columbia, SC, Kenny Church and his wife, Cindy, Spartanburg, SC, Sharon Sue Creech and her husband, Gene, Morrison, TN, Dan Church and his wife, Karen, Tampa, FL, Linda Copas and her husband, Buster, Johnson City, Jimmy (Buck) Church and his wife, Juanita, Jonesborough, Darrell Pete Church and his wife, Micki, Pittsburgh, PA, Richard (Coot) Church and his wife, Leslie, Port Orange, FL, Marti Collins and her husband, Ben, Johnson City, and Wendy Alexander and her husband, Jeff, Limestone; a brother, Herman Church, Johnson City; two sisters, Myrtle Cross, Piney Flats, and Doris Scott, Watauga; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Church will be conducted Friday, October 1, 2010, at 7:00 PM in the Johnson City Church of God, 1908 Indian Ridge Road, Johnson City, with the Rev. David Dugger, Rev. C. Bryant Collins and the Rev. Wes Church officiating. Special music will be provided by the Singing Duggers.
The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 5:00 PM until service time.
Graveside services for Mr. Church will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Washington County Memory Gardens, Boones Creek.
