- Mary Magdlene Franklin Church, 77 of Elk Park passed away at Yancey Nursing Center of Burnsville, on Sunday, March 6, 2005. A native of Avery County she was the daughter of the late Ernest Marshall and Josie Johnson Franklin. Mrs. Church was a member of Heaton Christian Church. She is survived my her husband of 58 years, Jesse Church, Sr., five sons, Jesse, Jr. and wife Jean of Heaton, Bill and wife Debbie of Hickory Nut Gap, Tommy of Heaton, John and wife Kim of Heaton, Gary and wife Denita of Hickory Nut Gap, three daughters, Linda and husband Lee Thomas of Birchfield Creek, Diana and husband Ronnie Vance of Jonas Ridge, Margie and husband Greg Revis of Crossnore. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was the deaths of her brothers, Earl Franklin, Don Franklin, James Franklin and Cline Franklin and sisters Clara Franklin, Cozie Jones and Minnie Stafford. Funeral services for Mrs. Church will be conducted at 8:30 pm on Monday, March 7, in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant funeral home with Mr. Jim Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:30 until the service hour at the funeral home. A private burial will be held on Tuesday at the Church Family Cemetery.
