- RICHMOND, VA — Ola Mae McKinney departed this life on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the age of 102.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank L. McKinney; her son, Morris A. McKinney; and her granddaughter, Gina M. Bailey. She was also predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
She was the first of seven children born to Zack and Buna Griffith McCourry of the Brummitts Creek Community. She was a loving mother to her children, F. Gail Bailey (Tommy) of Ocala, Florida, P. Kent McKinney (Judy) of Gray, Tennessee and Lenis M. Bullett (Doug) of Richmond, Virginia.
Ola leaves ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.
She graduated from Tipton Hill Sigh School in 1932. She was a caring nurse at Spruce Pine Hospital and the practice of Dr. George Kimberly in Bakersville. Ola was a long time faithful member of the Bakersville Baptist Church. She spent her later years living with her daughters, Gail and Lenis, with whom she shared fond memories of her childhood mountain home.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Vernon Buchanan and William Ellis officiating. Burial will be next to her husband, Frank, in the Grindstaff Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The pallbearers will be Kevin Bailey, David McKinney, Chris McKinney, Bryan Bullett, Chris Rowe and Teddy McKinney.
