- Kathleen Potter Hatley Hodges, 87, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at her residence.
She was born to the late David Carter Potter and Hattie McElyea Potter in the old town of Butler, TN. At the age of 12, their family home was taken when the Watauga Lake was built. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hodges.
She was known as a sweet, generous, kind, loving woman who loved her family. She worked very hard in her life, raising eight children during hard times. She, however, considered herself a blessed person. She loved to bake, decorate and clean her home. Kathleen also had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing gospel songs and going to church. Most of all, she loved her Lord.
Kathleen worked at the Glove Plant in Mountain City, the IRC/TRW in Boone, NC, and the Chetola Resort, Blowing Rock, NC.
Kathleen was preceded in death by seven sisters; Ethel, Eula, Mildred, Doris, Ruth, Betty and Dorothy; three brothers, Bud, Marion, and James. She was first married to Clifford Dan Hatley "Buckeye Hatley." They had eight children: Betty, Gary, Michael (Wuzzy), Susie, Janice, Kathy Jo, Randy and Denny. She later married Roy Hodges and had one stepson Kelly Hodges from Foscoe, NC. She had 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren.
A Service to Celebrate the life of Kathleen will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, TN with Rev. Ray Greene and Pastor Eric Cornett officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
A graveside service and interment will follow at the Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
